In the Aftermath of the hip-hop explosion, perhaps it's most creative and influential force is
igniting a new revolution.
Grammy award winning Dr. Dre launches his new record label, Aftermath Entertainment, with the November 26,
1996 release of dr. Dre Presents.....The Aftermath, a compilation album featuring new performances from
several legendary artists as well as showcasing more than a dozen Aftermath entertainment artists and
producers.
The albums tracks unite hip-hop and R&B , hard-core and pop, male and female, east and wet coast, old school
and new school. Delivered by talented performers hand picked by Dre, the albums executive producer, they
form the foundation of his new entertainment empire.(Aftermath is a joint venture with Interscope records.)
"Everything's new, new album, new label, new artists, new producers. This isn't a chronic 2 or anything like that."
says Dre, one of the most visionary, successful, producers, writers, artists, in music. "Were going to try a lot of
different things. Keeping it real, keeping it positive. It's time to move on."
The first track released from the album is "East Coast/West Coast Killas" featuring Group Therapy, a bi-coastal
collaberation with NAS, KRS 1, B-Real (from Cypress Hill) and RBX that diffuses the rivalry of geography.
Dr. Dre presents... The Aftermath also introduces to R&B crooner RC (covering rocker David Bowie's "Fame"
and lighting the fire of late-night romancing with"Sexy Dance"), and the soulful grooves of girl group Hands on (
a female group that combines ghetto with glamour, the real deal with romance), solo artist Kim Summerson,
Maurice Wilcher, and Jherel Lockhart, and all male ensemble Whoz Who. Hip-Hop fans will be treated to tracks
from icon King T, RBX, and Mel-Man, and Will be introduced to rappers Nowl , Sharief , and Miscellaneous. Dre
himself performs "Been There, Done That."
In addition to his success as a artist/producer-- His 1992 landmark album sold more than three million copies
and was the first release from Death Row Records, The label he co-founded that same year. History has proven
his uncanny ability to discover and launch new artists. Throughout his career, he's not only challenged and
re-defined musical boundaries but enjoyed phenomenal success in doing so. Of the 11 previous albums Dre
has produced or executive produced, all have sold a least one million copies (including the quadruple platinum
DOGGYSTYLE , the debut album from Snoop Doggy Dogg); six have reached #1 on the Billboard pop or R&B
charts. In addition he's won one Grammy Award(three nominations) and directed several music videos including
the long-form award winning "Murder Was the Case."
