How can you get excited about 3 fat guys with fender guitars that are so fat they shake like 3 bowls of Jello, they havent had a hit in 20 years and are corporate scums, they never come to my town anyway, so long fat boys!

I have been listening to Rush since I got the Fly By Night Album thru the Columbia Records Club, many many years ago. I think they are a great band and have been listeing ever since. I have great respect for there lyrics and music. The negative comments don't phase me in the least, I like them and could give a rats ass what anybody else thinks. If you like motorcycles, please read Ghost Rider, I have a R1150gs and listen to Rush while I ride, great experience!

It takes twelve members of Dream Theatre to semi-recreate the sound of only three in Rush. Portonoy doesnt have sh*it on Niel Pert. Come on! Get f*u*c*k ing real "guardian of the ivory dildo". F*u*cking kids.
Posted by Oz:
Hey "Guardian of the Ivory Dildo"! First of all, Rush was rockin this planet for 15 years before Dream Theater even existed. Second, since you're such a Dream Theater whore, why don't you ask what THEY think of Rush (not that you could anyway). My guess is you'd get a slightly different opinion than yours. After all, the guys in Dream Theater don't have Ivory Dildos up their a**es!

Rush is the best classic rock band i have every album and I also have a video of 3 of their concerts. rush is the best.

Hi, I've been listening to Rush since 1974. When I first heard them play, I thought to myself, Thats what I want to do. I picked up a guitar, and taught myself how to play. Rush has been a big influence in my life as a musician. I still listen to them, learning some of their tunes. I caught both Edmonton and Calgary show in September, 2002. What a SHOW!!! It was just putting on a CD, and cranki9ng it up. A well played showed! Fantastic!

Rush. What can one say about a group who excels at perfection? Refining scores of notes until the presentation is exactly how they intend to portray a living realm. For over 23 years I've been able to extend my share of opinion to others by defining Rush. I've always said they play sophisticated rock and roll. Fear and anger don't linger within their music, nor does banging and smashing beautiful equipment. If anyone ever touched my cymbals or kit, their hands were whacked with a quick slap of my stick. Pride says a lot about how a group handles themselves with others and their equipment. By extending a clean sound with sophisticated rhythms, matched with insightful lyrics and a tone that leaves one feeling their spine twitch causes unmatched brilliance for this dreamy/motivational rock and roll. At age 18, I could listen to a group once or twice and play their music to the letter. With Rush, listening a dozen times would prompt me to keep working hard at polishing a skill that has no limits. Neils not the best. He is for now and has been for many years, but there is no best. There is no best song or album, nor group. The best is the feeling you get when you hit it right Until the next time when you exceed it once again.

I just saw the vapor trails concert last night here in Salt Lake City Utar..... One word F$#%.. the best concert ever in my life. Ive been a Rush Fan for nearly 25 years, ever single time I see them live they get better. I wont bag on, or bitch about other bands, who gives a rats ass about the new stuff, how metallica sold out. Rush is Rush, always will be. As Peart would say, dream of a peaceable kingdom. We ve heard it all before.......

Ugh. Rush suck a$$, and they're old to boot. To all the fools who think that Rush aren't mainstream or aren't popular, I see way too many retards in my school sporting Rush shirts, and almost every Baby Boomer has at least one Rush album. Geddy is an eunuch, which is why he never grew a beard. I feel sorry for his condition and all, but I don't think that he should be parading it in front of everyone, and if you didn't know that he had no nuts before, now you know. They can't even play well! I am a musician and I know about these things, so be quiet. If you are an incorrigible Rush fan even after my multiple speeches, I suggest that you seek out some Dream Theater because they aren't fat, retarded, old, bad players, gay, or eunuchs.

I think most of these people that are giving Rush a negative review are morons that can not even spell their own names.I just hope that one day they start to appreciate a good thing when they see one.

Rush, Yes, Saga...all underappreciated, so is Star Wars Episode II but what matters is what you enjoy and benefit from. I noticed Vapor Trails has no keyboards. What's the scoop? Great CD! Ghostrider out...

Rush is not only the greatest and most interesting band of all time with the best musicians and songwriters on the face of the Earth, they can survive on their own without any mass-marketing or play on MTV or radio. They don't need to change their sound for commercial sucess, because they don't need it. Rush's music has taught people to think with their meaningful lyrics dealing with many different topics, and their musicianship continues to inspire many people (including myself). Their new album is unbelieveable, and I am looking forward to seeing them tonight for the first time in my life. "Guardian of the ivory gate",Rush is not "just average" but the most amazing band of amazing musicians, with amazing, thought provoking lyrics that continue to influence my life, along with many other fans.

As I said before, and will say again, Rush sucks! Some idiot boy made me listen to the new Rush and I had the world's biggest headache! Rush is not "amazing" or "super shredders" they're just average. Save your money and go see some band that are not old farts. Like Dream Theater, or anything on the Top 40.

I have been a huge Rush fan since the first time I saw them in 1975 in Windsor, Ontario. When each successive album came out, I lined up outside the record store to buy it. Then when they anounced their upcoming tour, I lined up with thousands of other Rush fans over at Cobo Hall in Detroit for tickets. They were the first band to ever play at Joe Louis arena.I know all Rush fans from the Detroit-Windsor area would remember that. Each time I saw them they were amazing.I have only seen them 22 times but who's counting? I had friends who liked Styx,Foreigner,Kansas,Boston and Zeppelin. They told me that these bands would all endure and Rush would be gone in a few years. Where the hell are these other bands today? Sure, Zeppelin still rocks but only on my stereo. Rush has endured and For almost 30 years! Lee, Lifeson and Peart have made music that matters. I can,t wait to see them in September here in Calgary!

Well, I saw Rush at Montage Mountain two days ago...the 8th time I've seen them...and although I was a little too close to the stage (LOUD!!) they were as consistently jammin' as always. It is a miracle that Peart's personal tragedy not only did not break him, but also provided him with the spiritual and creative impetus to write "Vapor Trails". Highlights: crowd response during "2112"; "La Villa" in its entirety; "Between Sun & Moon" and "The Pass"; the encore of "By-Tor", "Cygnus" and "Working Man"; and Neil's solo, with some big-band added overtones. Keep it up!

RUSH, the band, the myth, the legend. the problem with todays musical society is the bandwagon jumpers. What style of music(if you want to call it that)is cool? Rock/rap garbage, nu-metal crap, pre-packaged boy groups(I cant put the words "boy" and "band" together). The music of Rush is too complex and thought provoking for the lazy, waaah-waah, poor me youth of today. To call Nirvana one of the top 5 bands of all time? Come on! One catchy riff and they are the next Beatles? Enough! He is dead, thank you Winchester! A lot of people dont like Rush due to the lack of "danceable" songs, and no "girlie crap". It takes too much effort to listen to. And for us Rush fans thats just the way we like it! It's musicians music, thinking mans music. It will NEVER, EVER be music for the masses! They have not sold out like Metallica, Limp Bizket,Oasis and the most overrated band ever Radiohead! They are constantly evolving, adding or taking away sounds and ideas and are always challenging themselves and the listeners to find the meanings in their lyrical and musical metaphors. If todays kids could get over the flavor of the month music scene and listen to music that is relevant as well as entertaining and awe inspiring(LaVilla Strangiato anyone?) The world would be a better place. And though I too think Rush has not been given their due respect, they are the the most successful band ever to due things ON THEIR OWN TERMS! Live and learn.

by the way, Possum King, I agree with everything you said dude. For them (especially Neil) to overcome whats happened is truly a tribute to their greatness as musicians and artists.
Posted by MikeB:
I first heard Rush in 1982, Moving Pictures album and have since been totally hooked. From their first album to Vapor Trails, these guys have given us some of the greatest rock ever. I can listen to their tunes over and over again and it still sounds fresh, powerful and totally kewl. For 3 guys to be able to make the intricate, complex music they make is remarkable and Pearts lyrics, even though I dont get half of them, are intelligent, thoughtful and artistic. Rock on guys and cant wait to see you on tour this summer.

hey rush rocks if you cant set down and play there stuff then your mouth needs to shut up see you aug 8.
Posted by Possum King:
When all the musical illiterates finally wake up, they'll realize that Rush is not only the best progressive rock band around, but the best rock band ever...period. They're the best MUSICIANS regarding their individual, respected instruments. Any true Rush fan knows that upon first listen, the new "Vapor Trails" album is mind blowing. There are 6 to 7 songs that are some of their best work to date. And to think what Neil (personally) and the other guys (as a band) have been through since the '96-'97 tour? Only true greatness could overcome that. Rock on.

I read some of the negative reviews about Rush in disbelief. They have been and continue to be my favorite band. I'm very pleased that they are back with a new album and especially a tour. I can't wait for the show. I guess I can understand that Rush is not for everybody. The vocals could be considered an aquired taste, and not everyone has the capability to relate, or understand the lyrics. Also, the average music listener has no appreciation of what a good musician is. Although there are many Rush fans, they have never been over exposed or thrust upon the public like many bands. This has always been appealing to me because they have always seemed like my band, not everyone's band. The fact is that Rush is still around for a reason. They have talent, integrity, and can actually play their music live. There is a part of me however that would like to see Rush get the respect they deserve. Maybe one more big hit, like Tom Sawyer, before they are finished, maybe a movie soundtrack, or a segment on VH1, maybe an UNPLUGGED album. Something to help show todays younger music fan what intelligent and meaningful rock music is. Even better, to see Rush get nominated and voted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. God knows they deserve it. I know it's only rock n roll, but the truth is that Rush music has been a part of my life for over 20 years and my world has been a better place because of it.

This new album is terrible. Lyrics are way to deep, the guitar playing is barely heard and lacks no true grit. It sounds like session playing. And Geddy's singing is starting to make my skin crawl. He sounds like he's yodeling now and can't keep a single montone note without making his voice go through every single vocal passageway imaginable. I hate to say it because I LOVE this band more than any other ever. In the words of Peart, "sadder still to watch it die than never to have known it. For you the blind who once could see.. the bell tolls for thee". I want to ask these guys, "Who are you, and what have you done with my RUSH?" Listen to the new mush than as a comparison, put on "The Camera Eye". Decide for yourself. Sad, sad, sad.

First of all, Geddy sings like a SQUEAKING MOUSE. And Alex invented the faggoty piece of sh-t known as "3 Doors Down". Sure, 2112 and some other records are good and technical, but they are damn overrated, at least among the geek-asses in my school. They are not only old farts, but they sound like a Dream Theatre clone, and only Dream Theatre is allowed to get away with playing that stuff while still being kewl. The picture of them in polyester bell bottoms is scary and disgusting. I don't know why people say they are a "metal band", last time I checked they were Progressive rock. In my opinion, King Crimson are much phatter. At least their lead singer doesn't sound like Jigglypuff on crack.

Rush has been my favorite band since I first heard the Moving Pictures LP in 1982. I was immediately captivated by the complexity and tone of Neil's drumming, Alex's deft and intricate textures that combined the best of rhythm and lead guitar, and Geddy's awesome sounding bass that has a life and mission all it's own, not content to just thud along with the bass drums in a boring repetition of similar notes. The vocals grew on me, but the lyrics attracted me along with the music. Sometimes abstractively, they spoke to concerns and theme that I share:the need to be environmentally aware, the concerns of the Cold War and the ominous threat of nuclear war, the foolishness of the rampant nationalism that reigns the world and results in rediculous wars and millions of people dead throughout history. These lyrics are also outstanding examples of great poetry (in a more abstract fashion) with great attention to various rhyming techniques and wordplay that I'm not qualified to explain. Hands down they are the best group of musicians to play together (the Dave Matthews Band is a close second) and I'm eagerly awaiting their new CD in 2002 and what Neil has to say about today's new reality.

I've listened to Rush since about 1978...some of their material is so-so..some is amazing (Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, 2112). As a musician (drummer) I find Neil Peart amazing! (he's no Buddy Rich, but pretty close) Likewise Geddy and Alex also have tremendous chops! Rush should be inlcuded in the top 10 rock bands of all time and I hope they're still putting out albums for my grandchildren to enjoy!!!

Look all I gotta say is that this band doesn't get near enough credit, they have continually put out great music for years on end and IMHO think that they are easily in the top five groups of all time. Perhaps this is due to to the denseness in the music or some might say way too technical or prescison based to be considered great, well I agree that they execute their music with a high level of virtuosity but that's what makes them one of the greatest (along with Floyd, Beatles, Tool and Radiohead). An underappricated gem is Presto (nominate it for the top 100 list) it has all of their best elements coming together for an album you can listen to from start to finish no filler all killer check it out.

Hey guys below me that say Rush sucks...I can think of too many groups these days that suck..guy groups at that such as N'Suck & Backdoor Boys...and many more wanna be singers today...music isn't what it use to be, now it's jsut trendy bull**** to see who can wear the most expensive clothes, and be dripping with the most gold. Rush is a true band that has always stuck to their roots and has never and will never sell out like most bands of their day and today. They don't get the recognition they deserve, and I hope with their forthcoming album they knock all of these crappy musicians of today out of the water with REAL music.

there last two really kicked ass. rush is back as a metal band. now they need to hang out with real metal bands. dont be so prentious guys.

I will cut to the shase, so to speak on this reveiw. starting out they was raw, looking to find themselfes, but made the best gothic rock or metal while they was doing it. good enough to infuence iron maiden. then they finnaly polished it up a bit and improved on the concepts. enough to influence queens ryche. then they finnaly got the noteriety they deserved with moving pictures. then they expieramented on signals, wich was a deep, solid but misunderstood album. enough to influence eddie van halen circa. 1984 and 5150. they hit there progressive peak just in time for there 10nth aniversery and 10th album, grace under pressure. the next four albums was a rut stage, good music, but was hiding under to much undustrial sounds and peddles. strip that away and crank it up a notch or two, and you got some kick ass metal. thats exactley what they did on the last two albums, but lackes yhe balls of the early stuff. but not bad for three guys, and guys(no offense) there age. over all, the band is remarkable.
