John Lennon and Paul Mcartney could write a song in the time it took them to play it. so does that mean that Revolver or Sgt. Pepper's sucked. No. It means they're that much better. So if it took Serj and Daron 2 days to whrite songs like "Vicinity of Obcenity", Hypnotize, or "Soldier Side" That just makes those songs that much better. Every band wants people to buy their alblums, like their songs, and be excited to hear their songs. Also, Do you think that when They were whriting a song like Vicinity of Obcenity that they were serious and stone faced. They were cracking the F*ck up just like anyone who listens to it. With that said I think that coming out with a double alblum was a mistake. For the first time SOAD has some songs I don't like at all. She's like heroin sounds like a third grader whrote it (as well as Lonely Days) and lost in hollywood is a bit funny at best. a 15 song single alblum would have done just fine. But the pros outweigh the cons with songs like Cigaro, This Cocain..., Sad Statue, Attack, Dreaming, Hypnotize, U-fig, Vicinity of Obcenity, and Soldier Side all kicking the mandatory ass any SOAD song should. Then there are the songs that only in certain parts kick said ass. An example would be Violent Pornography. The "everybody, everybody..." part is just absolutely retarded, But the "Non-stop disco Bet ya its nabisco" part is absolutely amazing. A general critique of mine would be to tell Daron to shut the f*ck up and let serj do his thing. Serj is an amazing lead singer and lyricist. Daron is an amazing backup singer and rock music composer. stay in your designated corners and return to the zone you were in when making your first three alblums. recently I reak an Interview of serj in which he said he was pissed off when he made the first and best SOAD alblum but has mellowed out since then. I'm going to do everyone a favore and kick serj in the balls and tell him to write a song about me. Maybe after that SOAD will get back in the business of making the greatest records of all time. The foursome Serj Tankian, Daron Malakian, Shavo Odadjian, and John Dolmayan is the greatly known band, SYSTEM OF A DOWN. SOAD (System Of A Down) came together in the mid 90's in Los Angeles California. Even though they are American citizens, they are all of Armenian descent. SOAD not only uses heavy hardcore-sonic music, but they also put in a little bit of their own Armenian heratige folk music as an awesome major plus. SOAD is totally original, no other band sounds like them. Bassist Shavo Odadjian puts it, "You can compare us to whoever you want. I don't care. Comparisons and labels have no effect on this band. Fact is fact: We are who we are and they are who they are." In 1998 SOAD came out with their new debut self titled album. With the great producer Rick Rueban (the same producer for the likes of Slayer and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers), SOAD's new album brought new exciting metal. Metal that has hardcore trembling, loud roars and howls, with hard vibes of super sonic noise. That year, SOAD's songs "Sugar" and "Spiders" hit radio stations all across the country. In the year 2000, after lots of touring with the likes of Slayer, other inspiring bands, and even being part of the Ozzfest lineup, SOAD started making their new sophmore album. SOAD said that they still wanted the hard vibe in their music, but they wanted to make it sound more interesting, bigger and badder. Guitarist Malakian says that he hates it when every single artists album sounds the exact same. In the late summer of 2001, SOAD released it's new sophmore album, "Toxicity." Their featured single "Chop Suey" made headlines all across the country. Their other great singles followed: "Toxicity," and "Aerials." "Psycho" also hit radio's across the country in the summer of 2002. The album Toxicity quickly made top platinum sales and headlines. Spin Magazine named the album Toxicity "2001 album of the year...the most ambitious record yet to emerge from the NU Metal scene...this is the sound of now." Alternative press reader's poll votes System Of A Down "Best band of 2001." SOAD also was on the main stage for the Ozzfest 2002 tour. They were the #1 main band for the Ozzfest 2002 main stage line up. In November of 2002, SOAD released their third album, "Steal This Album." Steal This Album was created because someone leaked demo songs of SOAD into the internet. Some of these unreleased songs were not finished and some were material from the self titled album and the Toxicity period. So SOAD decided to take these songs, finish some songs off, songs like "ChicNstu," and package them to make a new outstanding album. Steal This Album is packaged in a way that the CD looks like a home made burned copy. There are four special edition CD's that are artisticly made by each band member. The songs on this album are also hard, crazy, trembling metal. Songs like the "Highway Song" have a more mature touch to them. The single for Steal This Album, "Innervision" also has hit radio stations through out the country. Yes, 2001 and 2002 was a great year for SOAD. This year (2003) SOAD is taking a break. SOAD was nominated for "Aerials" as best hard rock performance single at this years Grammy's. We can only expect what new twists and sonic booms SOAD has in stored for us. If SOAD keeps heading the way they are right now, the next album may even be bigger than Toxicity. SOAD is not only just all hard crazy metal. The meaning behind their music is very serious...mainly their lyrics. SOAD's heratige and politics are very important in their music. In the self titled album, SOAD has a song called P.L.U.C.K. which stands for Politically, Lying, Unholy, Cowardly, Killers. This song is about the Armenian Genocide which happened in 1915. This song is showing how the Turkish government killed lots of innocent Armenians for stupid political reasons and it also shows that their liers for not admitting to this horrible crime, that their unholy for doing this, and that they are a bunch of cowards. SOAD had family members who were killed in the Armenian Genocide so it also effects them in different ways. The Lyrics in this song talk about how no "BIG" governments (such as the U.S.) have given the Armenians a restitution or support for the genocide. But now it's time for a restitution. SOAD also sing about no war such as in the song "War?" where they sing "We don't speak anymore of war." So as you see, SOAD are more than just the music but, their musical vibe is the thing... Posted by Knife: I gotta say, while I wasn't all about s.o.a.d. from the beginning, once i heard spiders i gained a whole new respect. that song is just quality. Now they god a new song, with some great lyrics, like "i don't think you trust in my self rightous suicide. i cry, when angels deserve to die." its just good stuff, and well put together. Joedon Hughes NORML_ppl System of a Down is one of the more original bands today when compared to the piles upon piles of Korn and Limp Bizkit clones. They have a unique sound to say the least, with Serj singing very calmly in songs such as Spiders and wild in the song Darts. The band members Serj(vocals), Shavo(bass), Darron(guitar), and John(drums) are all of Armenian decent and are proud and couragous as the song PLUCK (Politicaly Lying Unholy Cowardly Killers) shows, which tells the story of a genocidal threat against Armenians about 90 years ago. The band seems to come out very even, with Serj "talking about more currant affair issues", and the less serious Shavo and Darron who commit wild acts at their shows. John seems to be the quiets member of the group and rarely seems to do interviews or anything of the such. Anyways, System of a Down is one of the better choices you could make when buying a cd or even(if you're lucky enough) going to a concert.
