Drug Was leaked to WMMS, and was played on the station, until they got
a threatening letter from Interscope records
1998
- News of Nine Inch Nails'
new album still being released slowly.
- As of Jan 6, rumors put
the release towards the beginning of March.
- On a side note, Trent
Reznor and Marilyn Manson drift apart after creative style changes.
- 04.14.1998 It's now April
and the latest issue of Spin Magazine has the release date for the next
NIN album sometime this fall (1998).
- Trent Reznor works with
Puffy Daddy on the remix of "Victory."
- Trent contributes vocals
to the song "Black Bomb (Jerry in the Bag)" on the forthcoming Josh Wink
CD scheduled for release sometime in late June.
- (04.21.1998) Victory is
released.
- June - The "I'm Afraid
of Americans" CD is put out of press due to a lack of sales.
- June - Although there
is talk of Trent Reznor working on the X-Files movie soundtrack, nothing
develops becuase NIN backed out of the project in it's initial stages.
- June - Interscope confirms
that the next Halo (i.e. 13) will be set for a November/December release
date. They also state that it will contain music that is significantly
different from past NIN style.
- July - The Official Nothing
Records page is said to be coming online at the same time that the next
Halo is set to be released. No actual word on the progress of it.
- Late July - It now appears
that the new NIN album will be delayed until at least February of 1999.
- Auguest - There are reports
that the Nothing Records website is actually taking shape. It is said to
contain massive information and audio/visual things for visitors to enjoy.
There of course is no word on when we can expect the all the familiar "under
construction" page to be replaced with the online version of the Nothing
Records page.
- August 13th, 1998Trent
Reznor took on Puff Daddy in MTV's Celebrity Death Match, a Claymation-type
show featuring wrestling matches of today's music, television and movie
stars.One of the feature of this episode is Trent Reznor with a nine inch
set of fingernails.
- Mid-August - The "under
construction" page for the Nothing Records page was hacked into and distupted
for several hours. It has since been restored to it's previous content.
- October - The new Nine
Inch Nails album release date is pushed back once again until sometime
in April of 1999.
- October - Several TV and
magazine ads have promoted the new album (still without an official name)
as coming out sometime in 99. Most sources have placed it now as coming
out between February and April.
- December - Trent Reznor
hosts and open house at his home. Several hundred people were allowed an
inside look at it and got some interesting information on the new album.
- December - Rumors at this
time still place the official release of the next Halo for sometime in
the
- Spring of 1999. Advertisements
for the album have become more common in magazines related to industrial
music.
1999
- January 1st - Nine Inch
Nails commercial promoting the new album airs on MTv. Interscope Records;
parent company of Nothing Records is involved in a major merger which reshapes
the structure of the music business and it's merchandising structure. Though
not effecting Nothing Records directly, this merger will displace thousand
of music industry workers and countless bands signed to major labels.
- February - Information
comes from official sources which has pushed back the release date of the
next album form April until at least June.
- February 10th - Article
in USA Today that describes new style of the next Nine Inch Nails album.
- April - Still nothing
concrete regarding the development of the new album.
- Reset.com, a interactive
web site developing site takes over work on the official Nothing Records
website. Change is coming.
- April - A notorious school
shooting brings national attion on Marilyn Manson and as a result Nine
Inch Nails fans feel the after effects.
- May - Nothing Records
purchases http://www.nin.com and is assumed to be making it into the official
Nine Inch Nails homepage.No sign of involvement on Jason Patterson's part.Jason
Patterson is well known for his work on the Unofficial Nine Inch Nails
Homepage and work on the official Nothing Records homepage.Although he
was involved in the early stages of work on the official Nothing Records
page, he has since been removed from the project and reset.com has taking
over work.
- May - Talk of a new single
for the upcoming album begins to circulate across the Internet.No official
release date is set at this time.
- June 15th - An interview
with Trent Reznor is released from Rolling Stones magazine.It contains
information about the new album and a profile of what to expect from the
new album and from Trent Reznor.It is available in the Nine Inch Nails
media resource page; listed as "Nine Inch Nails (Rolling Stones - July
'99)."
- June 22nd - Universal
Records confirms to an online NIN news site that there will be a single
for the new Nine Inch Nails album released on July 20th.The song will be
"The Day The World Went Away" and it will be available in CD, cassette,
and vinyl formats.In addition to this song, "Starfuckers, Inc." will also
appear on the release. - July - The official Nine Inch Nails hompage located
at http://www.nin.com continues to develope as the release of the album
nears.It goes from a simple flashing NIN logo with a small sound clip to
an extensive maze of different images and sounds.Along with this comes
the rumor that four songs from the new album were leaked to the Internet
sometime in June.Nothing evolves from this because apparently Nothing Records
contacted the involved parties and threatened legal action if the songs
were somehow to get full exposure across the Internet.
- July 3rd - It is confirmed
that the single for "The Day The World Went Away" will not be promoted
as widely as first anticipated.There will be an additional single released
sometime towards the middle of August which will be the main single before
the release of the album. - July 3rd - The new album will be titled "The
Fragile" and it will be a double CD release.As of now it is tentatively
set for a September release.
- July 13th - Radio stations
around the world begin to play "The Day The World Went Away" and "Starfuckers,
Inc."The single is still scheduled for a July 20th release.There is also
talk of another single being released in August. |
