Sorry guys, I didn't listen to BSB, but I do know a f#cking sh#t band when I hear one and that is what Alice In Chains were.

Posted by Jacks Dogs:
Ya Mum I am really sorry that you had a horrible childhood. It must of been hard growing up listening to the Back Street Boys. EAT S*IT AND DIE YOU IDIOT AIC IS THE DEFFINITION OF WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A GOOD BAND EVEN A DEAF GUY WOULD KNOW IT WHEN HE SEES THE MOOD CHANGE IN THE PPL AROUND HIM LISTENING TO IT I SWEAR EVEN HELLEN KELLER WOULD BE PISSED AT YOU (hope you know who she is)

I'm 34 years old....a guitarist and an avid listner of music of all types. i won't comment on today's music, mainly because i've never heard it, i don't listen to it or watch mtv anymore, that said, you must be a musician and writer to truly understand Alice in Chains. they were in my opinion the most melodic and boundless bands i've ever heard. musically what they do in line of song structure and density is staggering. they came from somewhere dark, somewhere real.they also employed a great deal of r&b falsettos, funk and rhythm in song after song. they were incredible. cantrell is my favorite guitarist behind Hendrix and Page. it was his emotional delivery and tone that set him so far above others. I have never heard a song structured like " hate to feel" and point to that as an example of a group that was so far ahead of their time. it was the heaviest blues since dazed and confused. i'm picking up my guitar....getting some other people to play with and i'm going to try and write some music inspired by all my favorite bands...if it sounds a little alice.....that's cool with me.

AIC sucked hardcore F#cKing c#ck. Layne was a doghnut puncher and i'm glad he isnt making that whiney sh#t music anymore

Posted by buddah:
Okay, lets just establish the fact that everyone who likes AIC, likes MAn In The Box, but there is so much more to AIC than that, i mean, that was most definately their claim to fame, sure, but Heaven Beside You is sooo much better, it's like crazy. Nutshell is my absolute favorite though, it just explains this totally big failure, that is better known as this dude's life. REST IN PIECE LAYNE! ok i got very mad at jerry cantrell, HE WAS ON MTV CRIBS! dude, i have to say that he went down a notch in my book. i love alice in chains, and jerry and layne are absolute genuises, so don't ruin that fact by going on mtv more than you have to. do you get me, AIC fans? lets resurrect layne, and make him happy, and serene...no no, death is much better than all that crud (this web site producer is a tight a$$),layne would've been hit by a car anyway.

The PMS-ing reviewer below me needs to stop tripping. If you're a fan reviewing a band, give us your two cents and then shut up. What are you talking about? No review I read was "hating" on AIC, so take a Valium and calm the f down. Props on wearing that cool shirt of yours to work, dude! Long live Chains!

Ok, these little reviews and comments have been overly informative and I’d love to thank you all on being unbiased and cynical when approaching the task at hand. *cough* If you didn’t notice I am being completely sarcastic. Why is it that you are all wrapped up in music genres, labels, and who had their music on the market first? Is it a common occurrence in most fans of Alice In Chains to have IQ’s rivalling that of your average watermelon? I’d like to think not, but after reading the reviews on this page I’ve realised that maybe it is true. I believe I read one-person state that Alice In Chains and Soundgarden were underrated, which is entirely incorrect. Listen here you ill informed excuse for a fan, have you heard people negatively speaking about AIC? Probably not, and that is because they are held in high regards for the people who know of them. Maybe what you were trying to say is that they weren’t heavily recognised by the mainstream media and played relentlessly day in and day out, by MTV or any other music-associated company. Nirvana was, Pearl Jam was, but just because they were recognised, doesn’t mean people are thinking that these aforementioned bands are any better than Alice In Chains. Now I’ve spoken my mind on approximately 1% of what was wrong on this site, I’d like to say that I love Alice In Chains and their music. I bought all of their albums within a couple of weeks of their release and have soaked up every sound of liquored melody and harsh heartfelt vocals with pure reverence. ‘I Stay Away’ and ‘No Excuses’ stand out in my mind at the moment as favourites but this changes depending what mood I’m in. April 5th just passed recently, and I enjoyed showing up to work, not in uniform, but in a Nirvana (front) / Alice In Chains (back) T-shirt, and hailing to my two April 5th, suicide-victim heroes, Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley. A grunge revival sounds like a killer plan, in theory, but in reality it just wouldn't work unless there was a serious cultural revolution. Alice in Chains and the maelstrom of "grunge" bands that emerged (at what seemed like the same f-ing time) in the '90s carried a banner that was burned. But so it goes: "It is better to burn out than to fade away". Still, this garage-rock phenomenon needs a facelift. Get in there revolution rockers and contribute to your generation of music. Make Layne proud and wishing he were still alive.

same with me Grunge_needs_come_back,I would be willing to be much older,if only I wasn't 15 now.I'm a really late fan, just got into Alice in Chains mid. part of last year. That garbage on the radio makes me sick... and hearing what these 'kid's' listen to is nausiating (did I spell it right?) :-p

I have always been very in to Alice in chains.Laynes music touched my soul for so many years. I feel some what lost with out hearing him scream his pain. I sing and it was healing to belt out his strong, deep music.I always felt my anger release.I went to Seattle center for the second memorial with about 500 other fans, I was blessed enough to meet his Mother, Father and other family.I will never forget hugging his mom and sharing her pain. She sobbed as I did and said he would not let me in.I told her he knew how much she loved him and that he was more with her now in spirit than he ever was in the flesh.I think I made her feel ok just for a second. I cried for months remembering her pain as a mother losing her son.His father was wonderful as well and shared private, cute, funny stories with me in front of the fountan. I also interviewed many people on my vidio camera and got some great stuff from a bunch of great fans who loved layne as much as I do.The people who stood out is the girl with Laynes pic's(blond lady) and a man with one leg(layne went to the hospital and sat by his bed side because he heard he was a fan of his.A kick ass girl with long pink hair!and her friend.I just asked everyone what their favorite songs were and how he touched their soul's and thanked them for coming. I think that's why his family welcomed me so much. They had to have seen me walking around talking to people. If anyone from Seattle Center remembers getting interviewed or you know how I can find Laynes mom please email me at dreamingtrue20022003@yahoo.com I think they would want a copy of the memorial that day. Oh one last thing, when we were all singing Alice in chains as his family watched in amazment we all decided we were going on tour cause we sounded kick ass, lol. To all you who were there to pay tribute to Layne and his dear sweet family GOD BLESS YOU ALL! He is not gone from us! His soul will never die! Death is only a new beginning! There is more, I have seen it! Good luck to us all on our journeys.Love Michelle Filmer PS to Laynes mom and family and friends, feel his soul, pay attention to the energy around you and listen close.I pray for your healing and I pray you all get confirmation from the other side that he is still with you more now than ever before.

I didn't get in to Grunge untill about 2000,but can you blame me,bands like Blink182,Good Charlotte and new found glory are sh*t,I'll repeat peice of sh*t!.I wish i was 16 in the early 90's so I could turn on the Radio and not worry about pop/rock coming on.As far as bands go,Alice in Chains were the best, soundgarden,STP are my second favs.I also like narvana, but like someone stated before me,if kurt didn't die while on top he wouldn't have been the Icon he is.A.I.C ARE the best 90's band,if not THE best band.I admit I like bands like Godsmack, limp Bizkit, and Korn, but when compared to 90-95 bands, they are nothing.REST IN PEACE BROTHER!

Posted by Debbie:
I've grown up listening to all different kinds of music. When I was younger I saw Alice in Chain's "I Stay Away" video on MTV. I thought it was a weird video, but the song rocked. When Layne died it passed my mind because I like the band, but it didn't hit me that we lost a great musician until I really started listening to all the songs. Layne had a strong voice, and the music is so deep you can almost feel what he went through in his drug addiction. All I got to say is Alice in Chains deserves more credit than they have got, and RIP Layne Staley.

Posted by The Sarge:
Alice in Chains was by far the single most influential band of the 90's and still influences now. Why did critics call Nirvana the most influential band???? It's beyond me. Cobain sucked as a guitarist and vocalist.....the closest he came to soloing was on "THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD" and he screwed that up too!! Harmonies you say.....not from NUrvana. Alice on the other hand had it all. Cantrell plays with such angst and grace while Stayley's ominous harmonies are constructed in such a way as to resemble the genius of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. Underated yes......the greatest ever....definitely....too bad the music industry has lost yet another fantastic talent. I hate the fact that I'll never be able to hear another new creation from this band.

i think alice in chains was the most underrated heavy metal band of all time along with soundgarden. jerry cantrell played some great original solos and definitely should be recognized in the likes of such greats such as hendrix, plant and hammett. alice in chains rocks!

Alice in Chains was about great poetry and rocking hard. I don't think anyone gives a f*ck who's a better band than who. Seattle got really lucky in the late 80's and early 90's to have all these great bands come out of there. All the Seattle bands of that period showed us again what music was all about.

oh yeah... I love Alice In Chains. They were definitely a unique band. Btw Jerry Cantrell- Degredation Trip is sweet! Check it out. The single Anger Rising is sure to wet your appetite! :D

Isn't it sad what music has degraded into? I mean Godsmack, static x lol

Hey all, I just wanted to say that i just purchased Dirt (2002- bit slow on the uptake i know) but honestly i love their music. Ill probably end up getting their other cd's.. I personally dont like Nirvana all that much and i carnt stand it when people are like 'Kurt' this or 'Kurt' that. Its pretty sickening. I mean Alice In Chains started this s*** and get no credit watsoever. Anyways, how awesome is WOULD? That video clip is the sweeeet!! Yep, Im addicted to AIC. That Jerry Cantrell is pretty awesome in his songwriting.. Pretty much AIC's music is more interesting than Nirvana. I mean most people who say Nirvana are BY FAR the best havent given AIC, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam etc. a good enough listen. DONT BE DELUDED BY WHAT MTV HAS TO SAY!

Since I was a little girl, Alice In Chains has been my favorite band. Such a talented band, with such a powerful sound. My life is completely overcome with tragedy due to the death of a wonderful, absolutely beautiful man. Layne Staley will always remain in my heart, and his music will surely never die. I cry knowing that he will never be able to write another song, and we, the true alice in chains fans, suffer because of this. Layne...You are in our hearts forever, and we will miss you very much.

Posted by #1 AIC FAN:
Part of my life has passed away in the form of a rock icon. The man (Layne) inspired me to make many dicisions in my life. A.I.C. will always be a part of me I will never let go. All the fans will miss you Layne. God Bless Your Soul.

Posted by TG:
AIC never got the credit they deserved! Layne's voice was so distict--it definitely set them apart from any other band. I don't know how they can be compared since no one has a voice like that!

Posted by hate to feel:
why!? WHY!? Layne you're gonna b sorely missed. AIC's music's helped me so much in gettin thru tough times in my life guess all I can say is rest in peace, your music will live on in my heart forever man :(

Posted by HAMBONE:
yeah i agree---i shouldnt compare great bands to one another---my opinion is just that--an opinion-----the only point i was trying to make was that Alice in Chains has their following, but dont get the widespread respect that they deserve as a band on the "all-time greats list"------and to this day i still cant believe how they got robbed at the grammy's when the smashing pumpkins cd beat out jar of flies for album of the year-----they perhaps might be the greatest rock band never to win a grammy-----i am so heartbroken about layne's death----in the back of my mind i always fantasized about them getting back together for one more cd----poor layne is finally free-----well take care AIC fans----keep rockin!!

Posted by alice in chains fan:
why does everybody feel the need to compare bands with each other. alice in chains music definetly stands alone. everyone is intitled to their own opinion and that opinion is based on your individual taste. in my opinion alice in chains was right on!!! layne r.i.p. we will miss you and your voice.

ALICE IN CHAINS KICKS ASS...ANYONE WHO KNOWS TALENT KNOWS THIS BAND KNOWS MUSIC.

Posted by DONNA:
WELL, I AM WATCHIN' THE NEWS AND WHAT A SHOCKER...LAYNE STALEY IS DEAD! MANY A NIGHTS FOR HOURS ON END MY FRIENDS AND I SANG TO THE TOP OF OUR LUNGS THOSE BLOOD RUSHING SONGS OF ALICE IN CHIANS. LAYNE WILL BE MISSED! REST IN PIECE AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR VOICE AND LEAVING US WITH SOMETHING TO HOLD ON TO.....YOUR MUSIC!

Posted by LadyMuck:
The first song I heard by them was Man In the Box, and it blew me away. It's still one of my favorites. AIC aren't like most bands that get tiring after listening to them for awhile. Throw in any Chains album, and I'm good to go. They're awesome. Nuff said.

Posted by Christina:
I just love layne and think he is an amazing artist. I fear for his life and health and pray for him everytime I throw in his wonderful and powerfully painful music. Can anyone feel his pain? When you listen throw out a prayer to God that he will be set free of his additions and be a performer again.....

Posted by Franco Ortego:
Alice in Chains AND Nirvana are the greatest grunge bands that there will ever be! Pearl Jam sucks, STP sucks and Mud honey sucks.

Posted by HAMBONE:
alice in chains is without a doubt better than nirvana---i will argue that point to whoever thinks otherwise----their unplugged blows nirvana's unplugged away---which proves that they are more talented just by being able to perform so beautifully live with no effects---i love nirvana too---i love the whole seatle scene---but easily--and i mean easily alice is the best seatle band of them all--and i think the best band of the 90's---of course this is all just opinion--but being a musician myself, i can appreciate the superiority of alice over nirvana musically---alice wasnt as popular as the likes of pearl jam and nirvana---but that has a lot to do with marketing---not musical status----------on another note---kurt cobain was great--but still overrated---i think jerry cantrell is far better vocally and creatively----i think the fact that he died while still on top people automatically consider him the greatest thing ever---i dont really listen to rap--but its the same with 2-pac--he died while on top--and is considered by most to be the best rapper of all time--coincidence??----had kurt cobain not died--he probably wouldve ran out or musical ideas----pearl jam was awesome--and dwindled to crap--stone temple pilots too---they were awesome --now just a mediocre band-----alice in chains is the only band i can think of that got better after their first cd---they dont have a bad cd---and i think the 3 legged dog cd is their best---but most would say Dirt----cantrells new cd Degradation Trip comes out soon----i have read the online reviews--they say its great---i cant wait!!!!

Posted by MARV:
No one comes even close to touching them, not f***ng nirvana not anyone..nirvana was more popular..alot more and then get credit for most of the musical revolution of the eraly 90ties..but no way in hell are they even close musicly (and thats all that counts cause they are musicians..duh!)to AIC..just listen to Rotten Apple..it surpasses every band i've ever heard in musical ingenuity.

I love the unplugged album, great songs...really. I'm a song writter from France :-) good luck

This one is for HoresmaN. You're such a dumb*** for using the word fag as a general name calling swear. Of course Alice in Chains slowed down after Unplugged. It was their last sorta album and it was unplugged, dumb***. I love Alice in Chains like any other fan and acoustic or heavy, they still never get tiring.

Alice in Chains are a great band, ok i admit it, but who the f*** called them greater then Nirvana. Compared to Nirvana their like vanilla ice, they suck.

Alice in Chains is a great mix of the 80's metal bands that were popular at the time they came out and the grunge that just started. Their lyrics were scary and sometimes depressing but they also had meaning to them, making you think that you should stay away from that stuff. I'm a big rock fan and I think that the last truly great band to come out is Alice in Chains, and its been a long time since. They are also the greatest musicians to come out since 1990. They especially prove that on their mostly acoustic EPs, "SAP" and "Jar of Flies". Jerry Cantrell is a very well-rounded guitar player and plays the best solos of any 90's band. Layne Staley has a very good and unique voice that makes great harmonizing with Cantrell's voice. Sean Kinney and Mike Inez are a very good rhythm section. I remember once I got "Dirt" it was my favorite album for weeks. Even when I got the acoustic EPs I constantly listened to them, and I'm a big heavy metal fan. Its too bad they've slowed down since "Unplugged", only making two greatest hits albums. They're still the greatest 90's band. Yeah, even better than Nirvana. Musically. And considering that Cobain was an a$$hole for commiting suicide, not a martyr. He left us all behind for his own relief.

Alice in Chains is simply the best combination grunge/metal band ever. The combination of 2 singers, Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell, makes for a truly unique and refreshing sound, and the instrument work is phenomenal on all fronts. One of the best bands ever to come out of Seattle.
