My name is Ilan Ashkenazi. I was born and raised in
the U.S., and am currently living in Israel. I have a
beautiful wife, and an adorable baby girl.
My Involvement with Music
I have been involved with music since the age of 4,
where I began learning on the violin. At around 7, I
started with the piano, and a few years after that, I
discovered the guitar. I felt that I was able to emulate
the music I heard in my head a lot better with a guitar,
as opposed to the previous instruments (though I still
enjoy playing them) and so the search for the
instrument of choice was over. I am completely self
taught, and practiced like hell, especially in the
beginning, so that I could play what ever I wanted, no
matter how demanding. Since this included a lot of
previous music performed on previous instruments, I
started off by practicing works from Bach, Paganini,
Mozart, and other great composers, along with
modern jazz and fusion.I enjoy playing all forms of
guitar music, from nylon string classical to shred, and
everything in between. Most of the music I write
however is instrumental, and played on an electric
guitar. I have started up and have performed with
many bands in the past, and always enjoyed the
energy I got from playing live. Though at this point in
my life, I no longer do the "3 set, all night gig scene" I
still love to play, teach, and compose music for the
guitar.
