King Prawn...
the multicultural, London
based 4-piece will be
releasing their debut album
for Spitfire Records in August
entitled "Surrender To The
Blender."
The album will feature the first
single, "Someone To Hate"
which will be serviced to
commercial and college radio
in early August. That track
will be added to our MP3
section for your downloading
delights.
A video for the track
"Someone To Hate" has been
shot in London, England and
will be serviced to video
outlets across the country
including MTV, VH1 The Box
and Much Music. Plans for a
streaming version of the video
for SpitfireRecords.com are in
the works. King Prawn has
tentative plans to tour North
America with The Pilfers in
October. Tour dates as they
come.
King Prawn, formed in 1994
when Al Rumjen (vocals) and
Devil Hands (guitar) met
Slugboy (drums) and Babar
Luck (bass/vocals) in a dank
pub in the East end of
London. Inspired by the inner
city living and racial tension,
their music is an often
frenetic, supercharged,
ska-punk, reggae-rap
onslaught of dynamic
rhythms with Asian discord.
The band immediately started
work on their debut single,
OEPoison In The Air1 (with
Ace of Skunk Anansie taking
on production duties) and by
the end of 1995, their
on-stage mania and lunacy
has earned them a massive
reputation planned from the
beginning - ignoring the
trinkets of short term major
label hype in favour of
successfully developing a
hardcore following as a solid
foundation of support for the
future.
In 1996 their debut
mini-album, OEFirst Offence1
was released (with Ace on
production duties again) to
much critical acclaim, not
only from the world-wide
underground OEzine network
(who were already throwing
about names such as
Beastie Boys, Dead
Kennedys and Rancid in their
homage) but also within the
pages of Kerrang and Metal
Hammer and Select. The
Prawn's cross-appeal has led
to a following that ranges
from hardcore skate crew to
Indie fans, to punk/metallers
and it's still spreading!
The end of 1997 the band
finished recording their mind
judderingingly immense first
full-length album, OEFried In
London1. Co-produced by
Harvey Birrell, the album was
released in April 1998 on the
Words Of Warning label to
massive critical acclaim from
Melody Maker to Metal
Hammer to Kerrang
Magazine. The last 2 years
have been the most hectic
yet, touring and headlining
festivals in Europe and
continuous touring in the UK
which has elevated them to
one of the best live bands in
the UK. Having now secured
a new worldwide record deal
with Spitfire Records, the
band's quest for world
domination knows no limits.
