What can I say? PJ's new album is unbelievable! This latest effort delivers some of the most diverse and striking tracks of their career to date. From the feelgood stomp of 'Life Wasted' to the quirky
'Vitalogy'-esque 'World Wide Suicide', the sheer meatiness that is 'Unemployable' to the epic closer 'Inside Job', this is so much more than I expected. Even the grotesque artwork is brilliant (is it me or does the lyric book smell of dead bodies?). However you judge PJ's more recent albums is up to you but if you enjoyed 'Ten',
'Vitalogy' and 'Yield', then I seriously recommend you to pick this one up. Except 'dude who knows crap music', I recommend you pick up either a.) the 'Wayne's World' soundtrack or b.) (even Better) a brain!

I can't see how anyone can pin-point a single song, or cd, as being the most influential! Each cd, each song is written for a reason and until you find that reason, or meaning 'so to speak', that song is meaningless! I think that Pearl Jam is the most talented, down to earth band, ever!! Eddie Vedder is a genious and deserves more credit than given!! He handles the media so well, by staying away! He's a musician and thats all he wants to be, nothing more!!
The selfish they're all standing in line...
Faith in their hope and to buy themselves time.
Me, I figure as each breath goes by,
I only own my mind.(Vedder)

Pure exhilaration is the only way I can describe Pearl Jams live show. Its almost like a religious experience, the music coming together in such an amazing manner that you feel it in your soul. I like to think of Pearl Jam as the result of an amazing 70's rock era and a very lame and overly colorful 80's glam rock era. In 1991, I was 11 years old, I used to listen to my father's old 8 track tapes; bands such as Led Zeppelin, The Doors, and The Who. In turn, I would listen to the music being played on the radio at that time, and I realized that the music was very simple and overly elaborate, bands such as Motley Crue and Poison tended to grotesquely show off their butts in spandex rather than please their fans by evolving with their imagination for music.
In the early 90's, Pearl jam picked up where the great 70s arena rock bands left off. After a 10 year hiatus, rock fans religiously took in the new sounds of the 90's; many rock fans were arms open for something new during a bored and stagnant music scene, similar to the one we are in now. Back then, Pearl Jam was mainly known for Eddie's antics on stage, their video "Jeremy" and their battle for the common rock fan which is otherwise known as the court battle with ticketmaster. But nearly ten years later, Pearl Jam has matured, evolved, and mastered their art of performing their live show.
Many people say that their albums are not as good as their first three, those being TEN, VS, and VITOLOGY. The reason for this is they have veered away from the popular culture that their first three albums brought them. Its not that they "lost their edge", but all of their albums after VITOLOGY, with the exception of YIELD, have been altered to make room for individual talents tailored to boaster their live performance; may it be McCready's guitar solo's, Vedder's profound voice and philosophical lyrics, Jeff's undulating bass, Matt's flawless beats, or Stones rhythmic guitar; Pearl Jam have made their live show into a science, a science that they created and they are the first to master.
Pearl jam use their immense music catalog, which is over 150 songs, too strengthen their live performance for the purpose of pleasing their fans and giving them their money's worth. Playing more than 20 songs a night, its not uncommon to see two or three encores, which is more than your typical bands with 5+ albums. With no two shows the same, a fan could see them every show during the whole tour and will always go home thrilled at what they witnessed.
Against the critics, Pearl jam released over 130 live albums the past five years, documenting their "Binaural" and "Riot Act" tours, in doing this they have provided their fans with something no other band has done before, which is giving their fans the full memory of the concert they were a part of. Never has there been a band so good to their fans.
Pearl Jam have now fulfilled their contract with EPIC. Benaroya Hall, their first release after EPIC, will be distributed by BMG. However, BMG is not their new record label, right now they are just Pearl Jam, no contracts and no strings attached. Starting with this release, Pearl Jam are now free to do as they please more than ever. With a strong fan base and no pressures for a single by a large record label, Pearl Jam will continue to prosper into one of Rock Musics most legendary bands, and they will do it on their own terms.

I just listened to their latest 'Riot Act' CD. Wow. I can't believe a band like Pearl Jam would stink so badly. 3/4 of the songs on that poor excuse of a CD consist of Vedder moaning, groaning, mumbling and searching for a melody against soon-forgotten instrumentation that most often sounds like white noise with a bass beat. On some of the songs, it actually sounds as if Vedder is hearing the instrumentation for the first time and trying to conjure up a melody on the fly. How can they be satisfied putting out such trash? It's the last Pearl Jam CD I'll ever buy. They've fallen a long ways since the early 90's. They used to be one of my favorite bands back in the days of Ten, Vs, etc.

tom not fit to live in country?a country which pretty much gave us a right to free speech,do i sense a little hypocracy,go home listen to m u s i c,and consider this, stop being so vocal about your own ignorance, pearl jam will proceed in the rockin in the mean time, not a single weak release just catering to different needs in themselves, cos guess what after a debut that sells 10 million who would honestly feel the need to prove themseves further, there longevity shows a personal love of the music and self respect

"Ten" was the best album, and as far as labeling them classic rock, that is bs, i wish that more people would listen to real music and not all this meaningless crap, listen to the words in "jeremy", these are words that inspire. Stop feeding the hateful beast known as pop music before it eats us all alive.

Pearl Jam is the kind of band that has had a sound that people have kinda forgotten is so great. its called classic rock people. though i would have to say that Vitology was the album that least fit this description, they have have expanded so much musically. b/c people got so pissed off with them after their disaster tour w/out ticketmaster, most people really missed there better music. No Code and Binaraul are there underapreciated classics. Yield was good but it takes some time to get to apreciate b/c it dosent rely on the hevyness meter that has for too long been the standard to which all rock music has been held up to to determine weather the said music is "good". not relying on hevyness was a huge sacrafice that the band made but it helped to even out there sound signifigantly. Then there is riot act. this is really a good record overall, but it seems that it is pearl jams abvious attempt at regaining some record sales. about maby 50% of the songs on this album use standard commercial tried and true musical writing. this was similar to the previous album, binaraul, but those songs contained a sort of complexity and experimentalism that made the songs actualy non comercial, while sounding comercial. anyway back to Riot Act. a great effort w/ some classics (I Am Mine, Can't Keep, Love Boat Captain, Crop Duster) and the social-political satire on our clwonshoe of a "President" Bushleaguer. the only complaint i have besides the use of some overly-commercial songs (Save you, Ghost) is that Mike Mcready barely plays any leads (at least any good ones) that guy has realy dissapointed me lately. it seems like pearl jam is making an effort to not have Mcready be the driving force of the sound of the band overall like it used to be, while this is good to keep the sound balanced, Veddar and Gossard just arent giving him enough playing time, and when he plays live his leads totaly suck by the way. anywho Mike you need to play a little more. anway this is a great band that other bands whould try to be more like. i know in the past there have been some crappy clones who try to soudn like veddar, but thats not what im trying to say, pearl jam is a band that is constantly reinventing themselves through the rest of the band, while veddar is still pretty mcuh the same for the most part. we need to ditch all this nu/thrash wannabe slipknot sh*t and have bands focus on songwriting, if the underground fans dislike this, then go back underground.

I hope they win the 100 greatest hard rock artists ever poll - or at least rank in the top 5

Anybuddy who talks about eddie veddar like that faggot tom down there needs to get the sh*t kicked out of him for criticizing a great singer and band.

Pearl jam is a great band. There music is amazing and truthful. The lyrics have so much meaning and Eddie Veddar is a great writer. They also kick A**. They beat the sh*t out of that trendy gay punk rock bullshi*t or boy bands. At least this band will last. And for all of you pearl jam haters out there, Veddar is right about this war that is now basically over and Bush. In conclusion, pearl jam is up there as one of the greatest bands of all time like the rolling stones and the beatles.

eddie vedder needs to be kicked out of this country he doesnt deserve to live here

eddie vedder is a f*cking pussy and should have the sh*t beaten out him

wow...alito, i'd like to have you come and talk to most of my friends who are PJ haters! You sum up perfectly everything i try to say about PJ, and how we really do need more bands like them! They are one of the few, very few, bands out there who you can truly say are all about the music! Hell i dont know another band out there that has the respect of the living greats out there like PJ does...Eddie plays shows with Pete Townsend, sings with the remaining members of the Doors, and PJ are some of Neil Youngs favorite dudes to play with! The Rolling Stones have had PJ open for them, and PJ is not an opening band but they took the gig bc you can tell that they give respect in order to get it, and not many groups out thee do that! So props to my favorite band and to all the PJ haters--we will see how long your "current" favorite band lasts!

THE SHOW ON APRIL 11TH 2003 AT WEST PALM BEACH WAS EXTREMELY WELL PERFORMED AND THE SOUND QUALITY WAS MUCH BETTER THAN THE PREVIOUS SHOW.THE HIGH POINT OF THE EVENING WAS A STIIRING RENDITION OF "YOU ARE" (WRIITEN BY MATT CAMERON), THIS WAS A MORPHING OF TRADITIONAL JAM AND THEIR TRUE EXTRORDINARY CHEMISTRY AS A BAND. THAT NIGHT EDDIE HAD A BIT OF A RANT THAT STARTED WITH I USED TO WORK NIGHT SECURITY, MATT USED TO WORK AT KINKO'S. HIS POINT WAS WHERE THEY HAD COME FROM (GRASS ROOTS),HE SPOKE OF THE MILITARY AND HOW WE WERE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE "POOR PEOPLE TRYING TO GET AND EDUCATION", AND HOW WE WERE PAYING THEM NOTHING. I CAN'T RECALL THE ORDER THE RANT AND THEN PATRIOT OR VICE VERSA. I HAVE ALWAYS RESPECTED P.J. AND THEIR FIGHT YOUR CAUSE MENTALITY ALLA TICKETMASTER, AND THE FACT THAT THEY WILL VOCALLY BAT FOR THE LITTLE GUY. I JUST WISH THAT I COULD UNDERSTAND THE REASONING ED HAS BEHIND THESE RANTS AND DEMONSTRATIONS (DENVER). IT BOTHERED ME THAT THE MOST INFLUENCIAL BAND IN MY TIME, WHO DOESN'T DO VIDEOS, VH1 BEHIND THE MUSICS, WILL USE THE STAGE TO SPEAK VIEWS TO A MASSIVE CROWD WHO REALLY AREN'T UP DO DATE WITH THEIR CURRENT EVENTS AND MOST LIKELY ARE PARTIED OUT. HOWEVER THEY ARE STILL THE WORLD'S BEST BAND

Well.... first of all I have to stand up to talk about Pearl jam. If u have ever heard songs like alive, black, porch, given to fly, betterman, nothingman, grievance, animal, footsteps, you already know PJ is the best band ever, so this is not for u to read. This goes to you, that have never heard any of those songs. When u do, try to feel the music, it will touch your soul. Eddie Vedder has the most beautiful voice that can be heard. When you listen to him u get to feel this weird "touching heaven" feeling. His is not comparable to that a??hole Scott Stap or even Scot wiland (whose music is quite good anyway). He is unique. His is original.
Mike Mc ready's riffs are so great..... as well as jeff ament's bass. Although they have always being changing drumers, they chose well who they pick.
But this is not all I have to say... I believe Pj is not only great playing music but they have strong values on what is right and wrong, what music is for (its purpose is not to be sold but to be listened and felt). They do whatever they feel like doing without giving any importance to the number of copies sold or the attenton mtv pays on them. Eddie once recieved the mtv video award for best video of the year and u know what he said?? He said he didnt understand what that was for, cuz art is not to be compared, it is not to be priced... in other words he said: what the f‘‘‘ is this price u bunch of a??holes!!! This is bullsh??, I dont need it!!!. Do u believe any of the currently seccessful bands would do that? of course not!!. They dont have the balls!!!. They are so unconfident about their music that they need an award to feel good!. Eddie gives a f[[[ about it.
Other fight Eddie had was against the huge corporation we call "Ticketmaster". They said the price for the tickets was not fair and they sent the company to hell. Now, because of that they cant play in the best places, they dont get the best arenas, but they still make of their shows the best u can get.
The band is perfect, their music and the way they think are admirable. Eddie is my personal idol. I sing too.... and when I sing a good Pj song I feel closer to art, closer to beauty, closer to spirituality.
Pearl jam rules... it was is and will be the best band ever.
"thoughts arrive like butterflies".

anyone who says that pearl jam started sucking after 'ten' has no clue what they're talking about. bands must constantly try to reinvent themselves or suffer the fate of being pigeonholed. no 2 pearl jam albums sound the same, and that's what makes the band great. plus, they introduced me to the most inspiring, original, and thought-provoking book of all time: Ishmael by Daniel Quinn.

they rock

Hands down the best band of all time, though they don't always put it all together, they have so much potential. They show flashes of greatness that is unequaled

Pearl Jam rule baby!! You guys have great taste in music... One thing I would like to point out though is that Ed is no longer married, but that's no excuse o track him down, like the guy says, just listen and love..xxx

i think Pearl jam are great they are so much better than all this stupid punk rock bands around. their music is so inspiring and meaningfull there should be more bands like pearl jam
Posted by elias:
I'm a big fan of pearl jam. but what makes me sick is people that are inlove with eddie, and especial women that want to marry him. what a bunch of birds. Just listen to the music, enjoy and think a little thats all. I'm sure eddie has enough friends, and his already married. GOD.

Pearl Jam was, is and will always be the best band ever. and i agree with knife; if you mix up bands because you think they sound the same you are a complete dumbass. enough said.
Posted by Knife:
I forgot to mention, since you all like Pearl Jam, be sure to check out "Mad Season." (NO not that $hitty matchbox 20 crap). Its a combination of Pearl Jam and AIC, with Mccready on guitar and Layne Staley from AIC as the vocalist. It is some great music (but what would you expect with a supergroup like that), but it is hard to find.
Posted by Knife:
Confused has just officially been declared "clinically insane." Firstly, Pearl Jam pioneered the grunge/rock you hear today. They were there from the start, and it shows in the quality of their music. The lyrics are well written, and mean more than most other bands' lyrics. Secondly, STP sounds nothing like PJ. Or Creed for that matter. If you can't tell the difference between Scott Weiland, Eddie Vedder, and Scott Stapp, you should be shot in the nuts. i mean that. Not to mention, the DeLeo's play a much different style than Mark Tremonti, and Mike Mccready is different from all of em. And yes, Given to Fly is one of the best songs ever. And best video ever goes to "do the evolution." Cause that vid kicked a$$.

I just would like to say that Pearl Jam is the greatest band of all times and Eddie Vedder is just perfect, his voice is wonderful, really amazing!!! Eddie: never stop singing, you are THE BEST!!!
mike
greatest band of all time.

I belive that Pearl Jam it's still the world's greatest band. Their last album BINAURAL continues the band tradition of dark, sentimental and strong music and lyrics, once again when we play a PJ CD we get to say, "Pearl Jam Rocks!!!" and that's something to be grateful for in a pop-pre-manufactured-teeny-"singers" era. Thank's Pearl Jam for giving us intelligent music to listen, cause that is for me the greatest difference between pearl jam and the rest of the other (true) bands: Pearl Jam is the most intelligent band I've heard. It's makes you angry, happy, sad, melancolic, but it always let's you with something to think about and even learn from. Thanks Guys.
p.s.: please do come to Latin America,Costa Rica in particular, and don't worry you have a great deal of lovin' fans down here.
