The Rebellious, Fun and Lewd Music of the Bloodhound Gang “People say the Bloodhound Gang has “fifth grade lyrics and no talent,” but they’re actually quite intelligent. They use plenty of big words, they refer to old TV shows and old books, and they are great potty mouths.” (iconofan.com). “Their complete inability to organize sound and their hopeless attempts at lyrics make them the funniest thing on the market” (dynacom/concertreviews) The Bloodhound Gang is widely accepted in the culture of teens and ‘twenties’ age groups as fun and rebellious music. The Bloodhound Gang’s motto is “We have no reason to live but we like it that way!” Their fan club is called the Bloodhound Gang Hate Club. Bloodhound Gang.com gets over a million guests per month! The Bloodhound Gang is popular amongst high school and twenty-something age groups. I’ve been to one of their concerts at Deercreek (now Verizon Wireless Music center) on May 29, 1999. I’ve noticed their concert tickets are always sold out weeks before the event! A favorite song of my friends and I is “Take the Long Way Home” from the album Hooray for Boobies. It mentions the book Voltaire’s Candide, which I’ve discovered to be a war/battle novel. This part of our culture is stereotyped ………………to share the values portrayed in this song. Their lewd rhyming is shocking yet appealing to imaginative listeners. “Don’t give a flying nun no don’t give a Gidget / Just have more fun than a well oiled midget” “Have really good times doing really bad things ‘cause the show ain’t over ‘til the fat lady sings.” The chorus is a kind of Philosophical view on life. “Life is an aimless drive that you take alone/Might as well enjoy the ride take the long way home.” The band is humorous, has gross humor and is sometimes offensive as displayed in the lyrics “Life is like a penis, most people don’t know it but most people suck so they usually blow it.” And “Like Elton John with his candle in the wind/ it’s hard to blow out a flame as big as him.” Meaning flame as in “flamer”, slang for a primary interest homosexual. The theme of “Take the Long Way Home” has thought put into it and even more brilliantly, rhymes! “You define what’s death-defying/Get the most out of life or at least die trying/Are you Evil Kneivel jumping a train?/Or running with scissors like Frasier Crane?” “But we’ve all got to Wang Chung with the Grim Reaper/Whether you’re Einstein whether you’re Beaker/Death is certain but its definitely worth flirtin’/Don’t expect a bright light no, just curtains” This is saying to live dangerously to your fullest ability, whatever that may be. We’re all going to die, don’t be afraid of it, live on the edge! It’s all over, curtains down, when you die. There may not be a “heavenly light” in the end; you don’t know. If not, then you’ve wasted your time living a boring life! People don’t like The Bloodhound Gang’s open discussion of minorities, handicapped and the lesser well off. They have a song named “She Ain’t got No Legs” depicting a girlfriend in a wheelchair and contains lyrics meant in a joking fashion. However, activists for the handicapped rights have overreacted and protested the band. However, many of the actual handicapped still listen to The Bloodhound Gang. The Bloodhound Gang made a song called "Ballad of Chasey Lain", as a tribute to Chasey Lain, a popular porn star. She was supposed to appear in their music video, but was a no show. One of their better known songs that hit number one on the pop charts one summer is titled “Bad Touch” commonly called the ‘discovery channel’ song………………….. Its lyrics are highly sexual. Outcasts, the abused, people trying to be different, and generally weird people like their music. I think the lyrics are within the cultural values of the United States. It’s pretty musically mainstream in the media when compared to more satanic or anti-law bands such as Marilyn Manson, NWA, even 2 Live Crew! The Bloodhound Gang is within our culture’s values, but it’s a subculture- not the wholesome church-going family experience everyone likes to imagine.

O.K, Who ever hates this band is a man with no sence of humor, this band is one of it's kind i love them, they are a great fun, and who ever hates them....to hell

Posted by Sarah:
I am a little sick of people saying "fifth grade lyrics" and "no talent" in their reviews. After following the band for 5 years, I've found out that they are actually quite intelligent. They use plenty of big words, they refer to old TV shows and old books, and they are great potty mouths. Way to go BHG, keep on making funny music that only lazy, yet intelligent people can enjoy... And Smack Daddy... You are a pud. NWA sucks ass and BHG has been around longer than you have.

I absolutely Love the Bloodhoung Gang. I listen to there CD's all the time. They get me pumped and ready to start my day! I love you guys!!

Posted by Nathan:
O how I love the bloodhound gang, I like every type of music from classical to phychotic satanic rock, but nothing beats the rythmic humorous lyrics of Jimmy Pop, my fav cd ever made was the One Feirce Beer Coaster,Asleep at the Wheel is the most far out song to listen to while really stoned. Make more cd's! Hooray for Boobies was good, but not as good as One Feirce beer coaster

The BloodHound Gang knows how to make party music. They are the best f#cking band in the world. I even got laid wearing one of there t-shirts to school. And who ever doesn't like them can go f*ck themselves.
