The Posies Biography

The Posies was formed in 1988 by Ken Stringfellow and Jon Auer. The two recorded their debut record, Failure, in Jon's home studio. The record received a lot of attention and was picked up by Popllama records. With only Ken and Jon in the band they had to find a bass player and drummer to do shows, two weeks prior to their first gig they found Rick Roberts to play Bass and Mike Musburger to hit the drums.
Their sound, with powerful pop vocals reminiscent of the Beatles, combined with heavy Guitar riffs, brought the Posies to the attention of many Heavy hitters in the Seattle music scene and beyond.

Due to the popularity in their home town of Seattle, the band was signed to DCG (Geffen) and released their album Dear23. They followed the record up with a U.S. tour taking the opening slots with band like the Replacements, and Redd Kross.

It took 3 years for the follow up to Dear23 to hit the shelves. Complete with a new Bass player, Dave Fox, the band released Frosting on the Beater in 1993. The first track from the disc Dream all day was a successful single giving the Posies some national attention on U.S. Radio. In France the single was a super hit, the band went on a 2 1/2 month tour with teenage fan club throughout Europe. they then went on to tour Japan.

More personnel changes were in order for the Posies, Mike Musburger and Dave fox left the band. To fill in the rhythm section Ken and Jon signed up Joe Bass( BASS) and Brian Young (Drums).

With new Drummer and Bass player in toe the band spent most of 1995 in the studio working on Amazing Disgrace. Viewed as a much harder record by many, it was the first Studio record to match the energy of the bands live shows.

Sadly the band is rumored to have decided to call it quits in 1998. If this is true then Success will be their farewell album. Ironically released on their first label Popllama records. Although this rumor has been widely believed by the press, at the time of the writing of this article (Summer 98) the band is still very active touring in the U.S. and Europe. We have received several Emails from fans of the band stating The Posies are not calling it quits. We at Rock n World hope that the rumors are untrue because their pop-full sound will be missed by many.
