Silverstein Week: The Sand Will Turn To Glass & Vanity and Greed
DiR reports: Silverstein's new CD ' Arrivals and Departures' hits stores this week and to celebrate we asked Shane to pick his favorite five songs from the disc and tell us a little bit about each. We'll be giving you Shane's picks all week. We conclude today with two songs, " The Sand Will Turn To Glass" and "Vanity and Greed," here is Shane!

"'The Sand Will Turn To Glass': This was another one that took almost no time to write. It's a simple 5 chord song, but I love the energy it has. It's also the shortest song we've ever written. I wasn't sure what to put in the little break part and Neil came up with that solo. I think it really adds to the song. I also used all these weird old fender guitars and amps for the intro. It has such a cool vibe. * 'Vanity and Greed': I wasn't around when the band wrote the music for this one, and when they played it for me I was really nervous about writing vocals over top of it. It was in a time signature I could barely figure out, and the chord structure was a little odd too. I even had a demo of it and I showed my friend and he was like, 'haha dude, good luck writing over that!' However, I'm pretty stoked on how it came out. The chorus is huge and the verses and super catchy. I also love how heavy some of the parts of the song are. Not to mention the key change at the end!"

Listen to the song, learn more about the group and grab their latest tour dates at the following link. And don't forget to pick up a copy of "Arrivals and Departures"!

Arctic Monkeys Vs Live Earth
Gigwise reports: Arctic Monkeys say that wouldn’t consider performing at Live Earth this weekend because it would be hypocritical to play.

The band feel that their expensive stage set up and the fact that they jet all over the globe for their gigs isn’t good advertising for preventing climate change.

Speaking to the French new agency AFP, drummer Matt Helders said: We're using enough power for ten houses just for lighting. It'd be a bit hypocritical." - more on this story

The suit, Dunbar, et al. v. Gottwald, et al., filed in the Federal District Court in San Francisco, and amended today to add new allegations and parties, charged Lavigne, her co-writer Luke Gottwald and others with copyright infringement and seeks damages for copying the plaintiffs’ song without permission. United States Magistrate Judge Wayne Brazil has set a first court date in the case for August 28th in Oakland.- a lot more on this story
