It Was 40 Years Ago Today
PR reports: On Jun 1, 1967 a landmark album was released that changed popular music forever. That album was The Beatles "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". What is even more astonishing is that the album seems to be just as popular today as it was when it was released. Don't just take our word for it; our friends at Gracenote have the stats to back it up. Here is a little of what they told us:

The Beatles are the most accessed - or "looked up" - artists in the Gracenote database, which has more than 200 million users worldwide and boasts more than 1.2 billion searches a month. The legendary "Sgt. Pepper's" album is also the most accessed original album by The Beatles on the database. More astonishingly for an album that was released four decades ago, according to the Gracenote database, The Beatles' signature album in just the last month has outranked albums by hitmakers Christina Aguilera ("Stripped"), Gwen Stefani ("The Sweet Escape"), The Killers ("Hot Fuss"), Coldplay ("X&Y"), and Eminem ("The Marshal Mathers LP"), all of whom are considered some of today's most popular artists.

"The songs of 'Sgt. Pepper' continue to speak to new generations of music fans, even those on the cutting edge of digital technology," says Scott San Filippo, director of Gracenote's content team. To emphasize the point, San Filippo notes that The Fab Four ranking surpasses that of their '60s counterparts The Rolling Stones and The Who, both of whom have continued to record and tour years after the Beatles broke up in 1970. Ozzy Snubs Sanjaya
Rockdirt reports: An insider tells The New York Post Ozzy Osbourne was confirmed to perform on last week's finale of 'American Idol', but canceled at the last minute "when he learned he would have to do a duet with Sanjaya [Malakar]. Ozz[y] said he didn't want to be onstage with that idiot." Instead, Joe Perry of Aerosmith was somehow talked into playing guitar as Sanjaya performed 'You Really Got Me'. The Soundtrack of Our Lives Plot Origins Sequel, Go Northwest
PR reports: Powerful. Mythical. Majestic. Swedish sextet The Soundtrack of Our Lives is everything a self-respecting psychrock band should be. With time-tested cues to the woozy, 60¹s grit of Love, the grandiose dreaminess of 70¹s Pink Floyd, and a lush modern pop sensibility, Soundtrack manages to allude to the past while firmly planting themselves in the present.

Following the success of 2005’s Origins: Vol. 1, Soundtrack is set to unveil the second installment in their planned Origins series. As could be expected, the record cherry picks from the classic rock cannon, re-contextualizing the monster riffs of the MC5, the majesty and bombast of The Who, the shirtless intensity of the Stooges, and the epic songwriting of the Beatles. End result is a bewildering mixture of everything that ever made a kid want to pick up a guitar. No MP3s just yet, but in the mean time let’s quench our thirsts with the video for Behind The Music’s “Sister Surround.”

To celebrate the upcoming release of Origin Vol. 2, Soundtrack will be playing three dates at Canada’s North By North West festival this June.
