Angels & Airwaves Week: Breathe
antiMusic reports: It seems like only yesterday that Angels & Airwaves released their debut album but the band isn't messing around and a little over a year after that CD dropped they are already back with their sophomore effort, 'I-Empire,' which hits stores this week. To celebrate the release we asked Atom Willard to pick his favorite five tracks from the new CD and tell us a little bit about each one. Here is Atom with today's song "Breathe"

This is a very different song for all of us, David plays the very minimal guitar part in the bridge and at the end, otherwise he's on keyboards. There's no bass in the song at all, so Matt plays keys the whole time. Even I have some challenges, switching from brushes on my side snare in the verse to sticks in the chorus and then back again. Tom sang this one really well, showing a whole different side of what he can do. It was exciting to hear the verses grow and then on the last day we had for this song he sang the outro and it come together so good, it gets me every time!

Just in case you didn't know Angels & Airwaves is former blink-182 & Box Car Racer guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge, Offspring drummer Atom Willard, David Kennedy from Box Car Racer and former 30 Seconds to Mars bassist Matt Wachter. Tom produced the new album. Preview some tracks from the CD, learn more about the band and CD and more - more on this story

Hawthorne Heights Vs Manager
Punknews.org reports: Just as the band hit the road for a tour after a long absence from the road, Hawthorne Heights have been hit with another lawsuit.

This latest suit comes from the band's former manager Wild Justice Records and president Richard Smith, seek damages from Hawthorne Heights and its individual members for breach of contract, unpaid fees for concerts that had been booked, merchandise that was sold, the acquisition of musical instruments and other band gear, a commission on a sponsorship by Mountain Dew and an $800 loan. The lawsuit is assigned to Judge Daniel P. O'Brien.

Of some note is this: In January 2007, Plaintiff and Defendant agreed to a management arrangement, whereby Plaintiff would be paid 1/6 of the revenue obtained by Defendants based on Plaintiff's efforts. In conjunction with that oral agreement, Plaintiff prepared a written agreement and delivered it to Defendants. While Defendants did not sign the agreement, they did not object to any provision of it and the parties in fact operated pursuant to the agreement until May 2007.

[Victory Records was kind enough to email out the text of the lawsuit without any comment or preamble. - Click here if you care to read it.]

Switchfoot Want to Help Rebuild San Diego
antiMusic reports: You have to respect Switchfoot, while other bands take part in Pointless Aid events for the publicity it gives them, when Switchfoot want to do something for a cause- it's a real cause. The band just released a track on their website that also features Matt T. from Relient K and Dustin from Ruth and they are asking fans to either make a donation or volunteer time with Habitat for Humanity in return for the download. Here is a bit of the message they posted:

My name is jon foreman- I play guitar in a band called switchfoot. Many of our songs have deeply personal stories behind them. This one, "Rebuild" has a story that grew even bigger after the song was written. This summer, Matt Thiessen and I began to write a song specifically for our fall tour, the "Appetite for Construction" tour where a dollar from each ticket sold will go to Habitat for Humanity. The song, (written with Habitat in mind) was called "Rebuild." Afterwards, we said our goodbyes and both bands parted ways and drove on down the road. Hours later his bus burned down. After the flames died down, the song and the tour had a much deeper meaning.

Now, as our hometown of San Diego recovers from the worst fires we've ever been through, this song has a deeper meaning still. I've spent the last week on tour trying to find out if friends and family are ok. It's been an incredibly helpless feeling. And though we're far from home, we've been trying to figure out ways that we can help. So we came up with this idea, more than just giving a dollar a ticket this tour we've decided to give a song away. We love giving things away whenever we can, our hope is that you do too. Download the song, "rebuild" and give your money or your time directly to Habitat for Humanity. - more from Jon and the song
