Aerosmith Members Fear Steven Tyler May Be Back On Drugs
(antiMusic) Aerosmith is trying to get a grip on what is troubling their frontman Steven Tyler who is reportedly taking a couple years off from the group. His bandmates appear to fear that Tyler may be back to battling old demons according to a new report from Reuters.

"I suspect there's a lot more going on than we know about," Aerosmith's Brad Whitford told Reuters. "He has a well-documented history of drug abuse, and I find myself very suspicious. I haven't seen him do this or ... have any personal knowledge, but the isolation is very typical of addictive behavior, and his -- what I call -- irrational behavior."

Joey Kramer says in a different interview "Steven has made some poor choices as of late, and he's got some bad influences around him, and I think that for the most part he's his own worst enemy ... I just really hope that Steven puts the focus on Steven and gets healthy."

Bon Jovi Back On Top
Bon Jovi caps the celebration of their 25th year on record with a second consecutive no. 1 debut, as their 11th studio album The Circle--released November 10th--sails into the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart on the strength of first week sales of 163,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

"Coming after their #1 selling tour of last year, this #1 chart debut for Bon Jovi once again proves they have a loyal fan base that transcends every change in popular music," said Antonio 'L.A.' Reid, Chairman, Island Def Jam Music Group. "After two and a half decades of uninterrupted success, Bon Jovi continues to stay at the top of their game, with no signs of slowing down."

The new album's success--which includes #1 chart debuts in Japan, Canada and Germany, and a #2 debut in the UK--is fueled by the band's current worldwide single, "We Weren't Born to Follow." Bon Jovi performed the song live at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate on November 9th, at the gala 20th Anniversary commemoration of the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. "We Weren't Born to Follow" is currently sitting inside the Top 10 at Hot AC radio formats, and the video is in its 4th week on the VH1 Top 20 Countdown.

Will Pop Kill Rock?- Not Hole Lotta Love For the Rock Hall- Ozzy gets Pay-For-Screwed- Beatles 1- Justin Timberlake Sued By Fan and more top stories from 2000
Rewind for October thru December 2000. As we come closer to the year 2010, we're going to be taking a quick look back at some of the biggest stories of the past decade.

What a year! Seems like with every turn Pop dominated the music world. Radio and the MTV airwaves were filled with it. Close your eyes for one second and suddenly the "next big thing" appeared. We had it all, a boy band break sales records, a white rapper climb to number one on the charts, teen female singer/dancers putting out one new dance song after another. Then we had plenty of female R&B singers, who liked turning two syllable words into five notes with their overblown vocal style. Of course, AC/DC returned and ignited the hard rock faithful to show that Rock will never die! But looking back, overall it looked like the music of this year was more about fashion and trends than musicianship and songs that will withstand the test of time. Has music finally reached the point of total commercial dominance, where what is popular today will be forgotten ten years from now? Where music is created with the bottom line of sales numbers in mind instead of artistic expression? The simple answer is yes, because it already has. Now look back over the description above. You may think that I was talking about the year 2000? Surprise, surprise! That was a description of 1990 not 2000. [or 2009] more

We have a long tradition here at antiMUSIC of deriding the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame for being out of touch. When rock greats Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Patti Smith were passed over for induction in the class of 2001, we like so many fans were angry but not surprised. It appears we are not alone in our outrage. According to the New York Times, Courtney Love has demanded that the museum return all memorabilia belonging to her and Kurt Cobain. more

Ozzy is miffed at MCY for airing a Pay-Per-View concert on Nov 10th on iN DEMAND and DirecTV pay-per-view. According to Osbourne's Ozzfest publicity team the concert was taped with the understanding that it would be aired twice as a free webcast. But further reading of the fine print allowed MCY to offer the taped concert on the pay-per-view service. more

Having spent the past seven years in hiding, now Guns N' Roses are making new headlines weekly. The latest news to come out of the GNR camp came from their manager Doug Goldstein. Goldstein reported on Los Angeles's FM alt-rock radio station KROQ Monday that the long awaited new album from the band should be in stores in June. This will be just in time for a supporting tour. [He was only off by 9 years] more

And now for something completely stupid: N Sync's Justin Timberlake is being sued by a 15 year-old fan for an incident that occurred at a St Louis hotel following their November 19th concert according to a report by SonicNet.com. more

While Zack de la Rocha works hard on his debut solo effort the remaining members of Rage Against the Machine carry on without their former frontman with plans for a new live CD and home video releases. First on the agenda for RATM is the release of a new home video/DVD titled "the Battle for Mexico City". more

Even after 30 years the Beatles has top selling power. The compilation of previous No. 1 hits from the fab four dominated record charts across the world last week. The 27 track album features tracks from the 7 year career of the band. The aptly titled "1" sold 594,000 copies in the U.S. alone [Interesting number, since this week's No 1 from Bon Jovi only sold 163K copies. Keep that in mind when you read the next story as well.] more

It looks like Limp Bizkit's 15 minutes of fame are not up quite yet. According to E! Entertainment, music retailers are projecting that once the numbers are tallied the third release from the band "Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water" will likely have sold over 1 million copies in it's first week. more

Radiohead's long awaited new CD has captured the top spot on Billboards Top 200 Chart this week. The new CD "KID A" debuted at no. 1 having sold over 200,000 in its first week of release. They also captured the top spot on the English, French and Canadian charts as well as the Internet sales charts. more

Retail chain, Circuit City will be selling the latest Marilyn Manson album Holy Wood (In the Valley of the Shadow of Death ) with an alternate album cover. The original cover art shows Manson crucified, missing his jaw. The Alternate cover will be a close up of the shock rockers face. The original cover art will be covered with a cardboard sleeve featuring the less offense image of Manson. more

Bright Midnight Records, a label formed by The Doors Music Company will make available from The Doors' archives nearly 30 hours of mostly live, unreleased material as well as some rare studio-recorded gems. more

S.O.D. are giving their fans a special home video and DVD for Christmas. The video called "Kill Yourself – The Movie" contains concert footage from the band's 1999-2000 tour as well as interviews and behind the scenes footage. The DVD will go beyond the video and offer fans an additional bonus concert filmed live in San Fransico plus videos, special audio tracks animation, commentary from Scott Ian and more. more

We'll be back tomorrow with a look at the biggest stories from January thru March of 2001 as our end of the decade countdown continues. -
