Bret Michaels Brush With Death
(Rock Radio) Bret Michaels believes he was as close as ten minutes to death before his emergency appendix surgery last week.

He was persuaded to go to hospital moments before he was to go on stage, and he's relieved he listened to doctors' advice.

The Poison singer, whose solo tour is currently being rescheduled, explains: "About ten minutes before showtime, doctors got on the bus and said, 'Bret, we really don't think this is the flu.' If I had gone onstage like I wanted to, my appendix would likely have ruptured and I could have died. Not good." - more on this story

Bad Lieutenant Cancel US Dates Due To Grounding
With air travel out of the UK and Europe still at a standstill, and conditions predicted to deteriorate further due to the huge cloud of volcanic ash from Iceland's Eyjafjallajokull, the members of Bad Lieutenant and their management have come to the disappointing decision to cancel their Chicago and New York dates that had been set to take place on Monday, April 19 and Wednesday, April 21, respectively.

"We're stuck in Manchester," said Bad Lieutenant's Bernard Sumner. "We were hoping that conditions might change at the last minute and we'd be able to come and play for our fans. Obviously, this is a situation out of everyone's control, and we are crushed that we won't be coming to America for these dates."

Since British air space was closed on Thursday morning, the band also canceled their planned appearances in San Francisco and at the Coachella festival near Palm Springs, CA. - more on this story

Truly Independent Band Elogy Announce Album Release
Elogy is set to release its debut album "One" on July 6th, 2010. Releasing the debut on its own dime and without the assistance of a major label, Elogy is pleased to be continuing its tradition of working completely independently.

The product of a half-decade long process of evolution and development, "One" showcases a band that has taken its time to perfect and hone its sound. With sweeping melodies, well thought out synth lines, and driving vocals, Elogy has recorded an album that is distinctly new, but that still evokes contemporaries like Coldplay, Muse, or Thirty Seconds To Mars.

Based in Orange County, California, the members of Elogy came together 4 years ago under the leadership of Derek Cannavo. Transforming an old warehouse space into a fully functional, state of the art studio, Elogy began to develop their sound and their organization from scratch.

Great American Taxi Donates Track for Coal Miners Relief
Great American Taxi, whose current album Reckless Habits is climbing the Americana radio airplay charts, has donated a free download of a song, "Appalachian Soul" culled from its debut album Streets of Gold, to raise awareness of the plight of coal miners and their communities in West Virginia.

The track is offered free to radio stations that agree to direct listeners tohttp://www.greatamericantaxi.com, which in turn links to West Virginia Council of Churches web site http://wvcc.org, which collects donations for the miners.

GAT frontman Vince Herman, who grew up in West Virginia, comments: "Great American Taxi sends our thoughts out to the families and communities effected by the mining disaster at the upper big branch mine. We hope that their unconquerable Appalachian spirit and families can help them navigate these difficult times. The country and the world share in their grief. We need coal. We need our miners to be safe. We need understanding on all sides of this contentious issue of our national energy policy. We would like to make Taxis' tribute to that Appalachian spirit available as a download here and suggest a donation to the WV council of churches to assist the families of our fallen brothers. Let's all come together and honor the families who have paid that ultimate price for our energy needs and hope that this is the last such disaster we must face."

Episode 6 of Mars Attacks podcast is dedicated to the memory of Pete Steele. This episode is a special joint release between Talking Metal and Mars Attacks. The interview was conducted during last month's Mars Attacks live show which also had guest hosts Mark Strigl, and John Ostronomy. Items discussed include Life of Agony's upcoming CD/DVD, Joey's production work, as well as a few stories regarding Ozzy Osbourne.

Unfortunately Joey only discussed Carnivore for a second, so we have included a segment from a previous interview host Victor M. Ruiz conducted with Joey where he talks at length about the band.

Dan Lorenzo from Hades, Non-Fiction, The Cursed, adds additional commentary, including a few stories regarding the interaction he's had over the years with Pete and Type O Negative. - Check it out here

Dr. Acula To Deliver The Social Event of the Century This Week
Grindcore septet Dr. Acula are getting ready to release their sophomore LP, The Social Event of the Century this week via Uprising Records. Also look for the band to tour this summer with party metal unit, Attila.

"We called the album that because musically the album is like a big party." Joey, who handles samples/electronics for the band, described the meaning behind the new album title (to be released on the bud-friendly date of 4.20).
Of course by party the band mean infectious grind coupled with death metal breakdowns, the directness of hardcore punk, dual vocals, post-rap attitude, samples and crushing breakdown after breakdown.

Following 2008's full-length Below Me (pronounced Blow Me) Joey says "The new music is much heavier but at the same time it's more mature. There's much more of a hardcore influence but also a lot of those weird parts that make Dr Acula." - more on this story

Broken Teeth, Danko Jones and Video Tape
Broken Teeth is continuing to make 2010 a banner year for themselves with the release of the video for the title track off their latest album Viva La Rock, Fantastico.

The video was shot throughout the streets of the band's hometown of Austin during this year's 12th Annual Texas Rockfest and features a video-cameo by Canadian rocker Danko Jones who also performed live with Broken Teeth during last month's SXSW Music Conference. The footage from the street gives the video a raw, punk rock feel and captures the pure rock n' roll energy of both the song and album Viva La Rock, Fantastico.

Viva La Rock, Fantastico continues to earn Broken Teeth praise since it's release with recent shout outs from Eddie Trunk on his radio show as well as a "Pick Of The Week" by Jim Florentine on a recent episode of VH1 Classic's That Metal Show. Broken Teeth will also be featured in the UK's Classic Rock Magazine's tribute to the 30th anniversary of the release of AC/DC's legendary album Back In Black that will be in their July issue. The band covers the AC/DC classic "What Do You Do For Money Honey" on the cover mount CD that is included with commemorative issue as well.
