Guns N' Roses Virtual Reunion
We know that a lot of our readers keep hoping for a reunion of the original Guns N' Roses. That's not likely to happen but we received word on Thursday about a virtual reunion via a new Mash-up EP. Here is the an info a reader sent over: DJ 5agge has combined Axl Rose's vocals from Chinese Democracy with tracks from Velvet Revolver (featuring Slash, Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum and Dave Kushner) and Slash's new solo album.

The mashups contain elements of Axl Rose's vocals from "Prostitute," "Chinese Democracy," "If the World," "There Was a Time," "Scraped," and "Madagascar," as well as audio from Axl Rose's performance as DJ Tommy "The Nightmare" Smith from the video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The instrumentation comes from Slash's "Beautiful Dangerous," and Velvet Revolver's "Slither" & "Messages," (an iTunes bonus track from the band's much-maligned 2007 release Libertad).

Axl's voice and Slash's guitar complement each other perfectly. You can tell by these remixes that a new album from Axl and Slash would totally rock and would beat anything either has done post 1993. - Grab more info and check it out here

Religious Play Mistaken for Metal Concert
With a band name like Lamb of God this was bound to happen sooner or later. Some fans in Arizona were excited to hear that Lamb of God was performing in Tempe. The only problem is the announced Lamb of God is a religious play, not the metal band.

The band issued this statement to clarify things: "Lamb Of God would like to officially denounce any buzz of a show that they have been rumored to be playing in the near future.

The band will not be performing in Tempe, AZ at said show. The event is a religious play being performed in Tempe, and is NOT related to the band Lamb Of God at all, whatsoever."

KISS Recording Paul McCartney Song
Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of KISS have made no secret of their love for the Beatles, so it's no surprise that they will finally take the opportunity to tribute one of the Fab Four.

Gibson.com reports: KISS founder Gene Simmons recently told Weekender.com that his band will be recording "Venus and Mars/Rockshow" for an upcoming Paul McCartney tribute album.

The Wings single (from the Venus and Mars album) was a Top 20 hit in the U.S. when it was released in 1975. The single was actually made up of the album's first two songs. On his Up and Coming 2010 Tour, McCartney has been opening every show with "Venus and Mars/Rockshow." The lyrics of "Rockshow" mention some famous rock and roll venues – such as Madison Square Garden and the Hollywood Bowl. The song also name checks Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page. - more on this story

Jason Bonham Hoping For Led Zeppelin Reunion Experience
Jason Bonham is hoping his upcoming Led Zeppelin Experience tour may include a reunion. Gibson has the story: When Jason Bonham first announced that he was going to do a Led Zeppelin tribute tour this fall, he didn't offer a lot of details. In fact, he still hasn't announced who the other players in the band will be. He has, however, elaborated on just what the show will be: a personal multi-media journey through the groundbreaking music of that band for whom his father played more than three decades ago.

"What I want to do is a personal story," Bonham explained to Billboard.com. To that end, the show (titled "Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience") will feature video footage of Zeppelin and will include set changes. Bonham will also record narration to "give a little background on them and the reason why I'm playing them, and stories about growing up with dad and how Zeppelin has been part of my life from the beginning. It's a good musical journey. It'll be sad at times... but it will really be a celebration."

As for the surviving members of the legendary band, with whom Bonham shared the stage at a 2007 reunion show at London's O2 arena, the drummer has left an open invitation: "I will invite them to every show I can, because my goal and dream is, 'Wouldn't it be cool if I did something that they thought was cool and they would get up and play with me?' That's what I'm doing [this] for. I'd love it." The show has already received a blessing from Robert Plant, but Bonham has yet to hear back from Jimmy Page or John Paul Jones. - more on this story

Singled Out: Sky Sailing (Adam Young - Owl City)
Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Before he became an international hit maker as Owl City, Adam Young wrote and recorded an album under the banner of Sky Sailing. Today Adam tells us about "Fireflies" from the recently released Sky Sailing album "An Airplane Carried Me to Bed". We now turn it over to Adam for the story:

It was 2AM and I was sitting on the floor in my parent's basement with a MicroKorg on my lap. I built this synthy legato, "ping" sound routed through a lowpass filter and ran it through a bunch of guitar pedals. I come up with a little cascading part that wound up as the intro and verses of a song called "Fireflies."

I have insomnia and I've always had a tough time falling asleep for as long as I can remember. I wanted to sing about my inability to sleep in a whimsical way that portrayed the condition as lighthearted and almost more of a "blessing" than a curse. It's ironic that when sleep and I cannot bring ourselves to meet are is often when inspiration strikes hardest. I'd just been on vacation to Iowa the week before I wrote the song and was amazed at home many fireflies came out at dusk. I didn't really have to think about making a connection between insomnia and lighting bugs, it just sort of happened and the song basically wrote itself. It was a lot of fun.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen to selected tracks from the album, watch the Sky Sailing videos and learn more about the album - right here!

Dr. Paul Rodgers' Future Plans
Our friend RossCat at Nightlife magazine caught up with Paul Rodgers when Bad Company rolled through town earlier this month. Here are a couple excerpts of the interview where Paul discusses his new doctorate and his future plans.

On his honorary doctorate from the University Teesside: It really is a wonderful honor, although it is an honorary degree, so I do take it with a pinch of salt. That being said I'm extremely honored that they would recognize me in such a manner. I left school at the age of sixteen and basically hit the road, so most of my schooling has been through playing music. The fact that the University has chosen to honor me for doing something that I Love to share with people is truly a humbling experience.

Ross CAT-Ironically enough I think you were touring with Queen when Brian May received his honorary doctorate. There must be some good humored ribbing going on between the two of you. Paul Rodgers -Yes Brian was very proud of his honorary degree as well, we did share a laugh after I received mine commenting that if anyone came around asking if there was a Doctor in the house at one of our shows we could say "We'll Yes actually there are two". (Laughter)

Ross CAT-With so many accolades bestowed on you in recent years one might think that your in the twilight of your career, yet its quite the contrary, tell us what's on the Paul Rodgers docket following the summer tour dates? Rodgers -Your absolutely right there's a lot going on for me; songwriting has been and always will be a constant passion for me. The Music Business has changed so much, I try to get myself into a situation were I can surround myself with the right Band and the right songs which I've been fortunate enough to achieve over the years. The biggest challenge is finding a good Record Deal so that the music that I put out there is properly distributed; I'm in the process of putting that all together. It's interesting you used the term "twilight" of one's career I'm actually sixty years old and I still can't believe that, it's an age that I never dreamed attainable its somehow in the midst of yonder time for me. When I look at my life I've proceeded on two fronts, there's been sort of an internal life were I've been trying to be successful in the world around me and succeed at what I Love to do. On the other hand you try to find yourself the person that you truly are within. At this stage of my Life I think those two things have finally come together and I have a much better picture of who I'am as a person which has given me more clarity on the direction I want to go musically. It really is a Good Time for me in my life and I can't wait to see what the next chapter has to bring.

Beatles Revolver Milestone Remembered
It was 44 years ago today in 1966 when The Beatles' Revolver started a seven-week run at #1 on the U.K. charts. It spent a total of 34 weeks on the U.K. chart and was also a U.S. #1.

Gibson has an in-depth look back on this momentous anniversary: The Beatles' recorded output remains staggering to this day. When the band released Revolver in August 1966, it was their seventh LP in just over three years (not to mention the scores of singles released during that time that did not appear on their British albums). Beyond mere volume, the band broke ground for all of popular music with nearly every release, adding elements of folk, classical, Indian and other new strands of music to the core material of rock and roll, namely R&B and country. Of all the band's records, perhaps no album took a longer leap forward than the album that was nearly titled Beatles on Safari.

When the group entered the studio that April, they were between grueling tours. In fact, the tour that would follow the recording of Revolver would indeed be the band's last. But tired as they were of deafening (and non-listening) crowds and hotel room imprisonment, the band was as vitalized as ever when it came time to record. They were eager to experiment with produced sound to the point that they no longer took into consideration whether a recording was even possible to reproduce live on stage. This was certainly the case with the sound effects on "Yellow Submarine" and the backward guitar tracks on "I'm Only Sleeping." Likewise, the band employed ornate orchestration on "Eleanor Rigby," as well as soulful horns on "Got to Get You into My Life" and tabla, sitar and tambura on George Harrison's "Love You To." And on the album closer, "Tomorrow Never Knows," the band and production team threw everything from tape loops to untried (and illegal with Abbey Road policy pushers) mic placement and speaker employment in order to get the otherworldly sound that blew the minds of so many in the rapidly growing psychedelic scene. - more on this story

Iggy Pop & James Williamson Revisit Kill City
Iggy Pop & James Williamson's Kill City has been restored, re-mixed & remastered for release on October 19th on Alive Naturalsound & Bomp! records. Here is what Iggy and James had to say:

"I like what this album has to say. It is rather high concept, and the music is well thought out. It adheres to no particular genre. A lot of people have borrowed its ideas. It's one of the very first independent LPs I know of. I hope you like it." - Iggy Pop

"Kill City was by all measures a desperate effort, a singularly honest and heartfelt performance, a genuine progression of our song writing, and another in a long line of flops that were later resurrected and heralded as masterpieces. By the time it was released as a record, both Iggy and I were off doing other things with our lives, but with this rerelease we are not only reunited in our musical endeavors but in our appreciation of this album, its remix, and its importance to us as artists." - James Williamson

After the commercial and critical success of previous album Suicide Season (2008), BMTH were determined to explore the more experimental side of their music, refusing to be confined to the unwritten rules of the Metalcore scene that spawned and catapulted them to worldwide domination. Tall Tall Trees Announce East Coast Tour
Tall Tall Trees have announced a nine-date tour of the East Coast which kicks off on August 27th in New York City.

Bluegrass purists might shake a finger at Tall Tall Trees when lead singer Mike Savino plugs his banjo into a series of stomp boxes and cranks up his amplifier, but, for fans, the result is strikingly fresh and original. The band, which also features guitarist Kyle Sanna, percussionist Mathias Kunzli and bassist Benjamin Campbell, has been touring in support of the self-titled debut album they released in 2009.

Using a similar formula to fellow New Yorkers Vampire Weekend and Dirty Projectors, Tall Tall Trees mix American folk and rock with elements of Brazilian and African music, providing rhythmic support to Savino's melodically and lyrically twisted tunes. Live, the band is energetic and masterful, reflecting years spent collaborating with a diverse roster of artists including Moby, Yo Yo Ma, and Vieux Farka Toure. Their friendship and musical chemistry allows them the opportunity to re-invent songs night after night. - more on this story

Produced once again by long time friend Jacob Hansen, A Discord Electric, delivers the following 12 songs of pure ecstasy and genre-defining heavy metal music: "Dim the Lights and Run", "Rumors of Worship", "Blueprints For Lost Sounds", "Nght Prty", "Street Emperor", "Shake Your Grave", "Tiger Crown", "Big Truth", "The Great Depression", "The Yeah Thing", "Ire Vampire", "Gunslingers and Tombstones".

A short comment from the band: "This is by far the most experimental, the most challenging, and the most interesting album we have come up with since the beginning of the band. My personal take on this endeavor is quite simple actually: This album will be on the hot list when it comes out! Every member of the band has had the freedom to take things to the limits, above and beyond, and believe me, boundaries are transparent this time around, we're going totally apes***, and you're definitely in for some big surprises with some cool guest performances by our friends in DUNΙ on the song "Big Truth" among other exciting things", says vocalist Kasper Thomsen.
