Now Sammy Hagar Rumored To Join Aerosmith and We Name The Perfect Replacement
Classic Rock has linked yet another big name singer as a possible replacement for Steven Tyler in Aerosmith. This time the big name singer is Sammy Hagar. While their past reports concerning Paul Rodgers, Chris Cornell and Billy Idol were based on personal approaches by the band, this new report comes from an unnamed "source."

But the validity of this source was questioned when Classic Rock contacted Hagar's manager, John Carter, and told him that they had it on good authority that Sammy was joining Aerosmith. Carter responded: "Good authority must mean The Enquirer because his Led Zep gig conflicts with the Aerosmith job.... Seriously, Sam is very happy to be going into the studio with Chickenfoot to start the second album in April." You can read their full report here

Guitarist Joe Perry has gone on record that the band was looking for a "big name" singer, but if we could add our two cents to the discussion, might we suggest a lesser known singer by the name of Drew Stiles. While his isn't a household name, he has a strong music pedigree; his dad was a sideman for music greats like James Brown, Ella Fitzgerald and Tony Bennet. Aside from his mellower solo material, Drew fronts the group Yummy who gave us the exceptional debut album, elegante, where they produced some impressive music that covered a lot of musical territory from funk to rock to melodic rock to power pop and even hip-hop, but the reason we suggest Drew is that his voice is the closest we've heard to Steven Tyler. While he is not a clone, he could do a credible job filling in for Steven while he sorts out what he needs to sort out and bring a new dynamic to the band while they are at it. You can listen to a few songs from elegante and see if you think he would be a good fit. - Hear it here.

Singled Out: Broken Teeth (Jason McMaster)
Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Jason McMaster from Broken Teeth tells us about "Break The Spell" from their brand new album "Viva La Rock, Fantastico". We now turn it over to Jason for the story:

We were in a hotel room between shows, I think it was Tucson, AZ. I had been writing on the road in the back of buses and vans all year. We were rounding out material, making sure we had killer grooves, trying different keys, and checking out how many "heaters," or fast songs we had, as opposed to how many slow songs we had, whatever. The important thing is that we wanted to try something slightly different. We had always been missing the cool sorta "Hell's Bells," or "For Those About To Rock" vibe. David had a guitar riff, we were slowing it down and dragging the chords without totally ripping off the "Hell's Bells" thing. Had the beats, had the riffs, the arrangement came a little later but the song almost wrote itself. The lyrics were written the day after in the back of a van rolling down the highway. I demoed the vocal while we were doing about 80 mph.

The song ended up being about the control you might be under without being aware of it, or putting blinders on so you don't care you're being controlled. But the pictures painted lyrically still have to feel like old school rock n' roll, no one wants it to be too serious when you're doing this kinda bluesy firey type of rock. I think it's a stand out track (a single?), it seems to be quite a few people's fav song on the new record.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!

Andrew W.K. Album Release Date Changed
After three years of loyal patience, Andrew W.K. fans can finally experience the 'lost' third album from the established party rocker. Previously released in Japan and Korea in 2006, Close Calls With Brick Walls will officially become available in the United States on March 9th, 2010, being released by STEEV MIKE, as a special two album package (the original CLOSE CALLS WITH BRICK WALLS on one disc, and an additional CD called MOTHER OF MANKIND, containing rare and unreleased material).

After the recent release of 55 CADILLAC - a compilation of improvised solo piano compositions - CLOSE CALLS WITH BRICK WALLS and MOTHER OF MANKIND deliver the slamming, inspirational music for which Andrew W.K. is loved, coupled with new sounds and feelings rarely associated with his traditional work.

Close Calls With Brick Walls was recorded in multiple sessions throughout 2004 and 2005, using the full Andrew W.K. touring band for the first time. With a full instrumental band, the new album includes exciting new performances, styles, and rhythms. The lyrics are more complex although still very playful, and Andrew's voice has grown into something much more distinct and expressive. - more on this story

The Astonishments Have Spoken
The world of 'spoken word' in entertainment today is still relatively a uncharted market, with CD releases coming from such diverse genres as punk, rap, religion and comedy. Poets of all walks of life are expressing themselves in the digital format as well as the traditional pen and ink. Now with the release of The Astonishments 'Banana Sandwich' CD, the medium has entered into a whole new phase of eclecticism.

Harkening to the beat poets of yesteryear like Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg and William Burroughs, poet and visionary James Crippa has assembled his thoughts in a though provoking, surreal manner - all filtered through the seductive lips of his vocal accomplice The Astonishment. The duo's debut spoken word CD is about to set the world of poetry on its ear!

So who is James Crippa and The Astonishment? "I am a British subject born in Tonbridge Wells, Kent and grew up in Rome Italy," James explains. "I am American educated, completing an MBA at Pepperdine University in 1994. My permanent residence is Los Angeles, CA and speak four languages; English, Italian, French and Spanish and am a fervent supporter of the American culture and way of life." His words reflect the streets of L.A., the common working man, and at times desperation and at times hope. "My message is one of love and I hope to trigger the listener with the subject material. I felt a spoken word CD would suit my modern prose poetry." - more on this story

Jen Olive Goes Ape House
Jen Olive is the latest in that select group of handpicked artists signed to Andy Partridge's Ape House record label. Jen Olive, described by Andy as ''this astounding allegro algorithm from Albuquerque", has conjured up an album that's as singular in style as in its manner of recording, a collaboration between Jen and Andy from across the world. The result, Jen Olive's debut album, Warm Robot, is scheduled for release on March 29th.

Born in California but "raised everywhere", Jen Olive's mother was a lounge jazz singer, her father a trombone player. "We probably moved about 35 times before I was 16", she explains. Having eventually settled in L.A., she then moved to Albuquerque a few years ago to meet her dad's "crazy jazz" family (her uncle is the lead saxophone player for the Count Basie Orchestra).

Moving to Albuquerque had a profound effect on her. "It's a weird and foreign landscape compared to L.A. or New York", she says. "It's pretty Wild West, but at the same time it's the kind of place where you'd expect aliens to land. The joke is that we had a perfectly nice third world country till they started putting streetlights in. The depth and character of the place is in the old indigenous families, and you can't help but be influenced by the culture. It's very different, there's not a lot of conventional Americana here."

White Wizzard Offshoot Holy Grail Begin Work On Debut Album
Los Angeles rising star metal quintet Holy Grail will head in to the studio this month to record their debut album, Crisis In Utopia, due out on Prosthetic Records in late Spring. Acclaimed producer/remixer/musician Danny Lohner (Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle) will be at the production helm.

Previously known as Sorcerer, Holy Grail features members from a former line-up of White Wizzard. Assembled less than a year ago, Holy Grail is already at the forefront of the new wave of metal that pays homage to such legends as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Dio.

The band's debut EP Improper Burial (released in late 2009), featuring just two original tracks and two covers, has earned Holy Grail significant press accolades including a 2-page feature in hometown paper LA Weekly, a spot on Decibel's "25 Most Anticipated Releases Of 2010" list and inclusion on Metal Hammer's "Guide To The Best In The Upcoming New Wave Of Trad Metal". In its short career, the band has already toured with the likes of 3 Inches Of Blood and Saviours (in support of Improper Burial) and is confirmed a number of major metal festivals this summer. - more on this story
