Van Halen New Album and Tour Plans
(Gibson) Van Halen are set to have a big year in 2011, according to reports compiled by MelodicRock.com. The band will embark on an extensive tour, which will include North America, Europe and Australia. The lineup will be the same as it was for the 2007 tour: David Lee Roth, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen and Wolfgang Van Halen (Eddie's son).

Plus, the group are working on a new album – the band's first since 1998, and the first with Roth since the mid-'80s. Although there has been no official word on the project from the Van Halen camp, Roth is reportedly recording his vocals away from the band's 5150 studio while Eddie works on the music. The man who's producing the album is Ross Hogarth, who has previously worked with Mφtley Crόe, DevilDriver and others. Over the summer, Hogarth made a cryptic online posting: "The record I just started ROCKS!!! [It] will be amazing... That is all I will say..."

According to MelodicRock.com, the new album is planned to be released on Warner Bros. records in early 2011. In the meantime, the label is working on putting out a few other vintage Van Halen products, including the Blu-ray editions of the Sammy Hagar-era titles Live Without a Net and Live: Right Here, Right Now. - more on this story

Motley Crue Shoot Down Poison Tour
(Rock AAA) Motley Crue know nothing about an anniversary tour with Poison, which Bret Michaels says is going to take place next year.

Michaels announced the event on stage in Canada last weekend, explaining that 2011 marked his band's 25th anniversary and Crue's 30th, hence the reason behind the tie-up.

But Motley singer Vince Neil says the first he heard of it was after Michaels' onstage statement. Neil tells the Las Vegas Sun: "There is no deal with Bret or Poison. It's never been brought up or discussed." - more on this story

Joe Strummer Biopic Coming
(Gibson) Joe Strummer has been a popular subject for documentaries – two have been done about his band, The Clash, and a pair have focused on the man himself.

But, for the first time, the punk legend will be getting the biopic film treatment, according to International Screen Daily.

Given the working title Joe Public, the film will be a production of British movie company Film4. Screenwriter Paul Viragh, who wrote the Ian Dury flick Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll, is in charge of the script. Damian Jones (Millions) and Simon Halfon (Sleuth) are set to produce. So far, no one has been cast in the lead role. - more on this story

Beatlemania Hits iTunes In A Big Way
(hennemusic) It's Beatlemania, digital style. Less than 14 hours after the band's catalog was released, for the first time, on the world's No.1 digital retailer iTunes, The Beatles hit the charts running.

This news has to boggle the minds of any cynics who thought music lovers had had their fill of The Beatles, having purchased (and re-purchased) the band's library in several different formats through the years.

A check of the iTunes charts just after midnight (eastern), found all 16 Beatles records on the iTunes Top 100 Albums Chart, including 8 in the Top 20 (and 13 in the Top 30). - more on this story

Neil Young Fire Caused By Hybrid Car
(Gibson) A one-of-a-kind hybrid vehicle is the cause of a recent fire at a San Francisco warehouse that stored Neil Young's musical equipment, memorabilia and more.

Belmont-San Carlos Fire Marshal Jim Palisi said that the three-alarm blaze began in Young's 1959 Lincoln Continental, called LincVolt because it runs on electric batteries and a biodiesel-powered generator, according to MercuryNews.com.

Young famously hired workers to turn the Continental into a hybrid vehicle and documented the process in a four-part film series in 2008. - more on this story

The Rolling Stones To Headline Coachella?
(Gibson) A deal is reportedly being worked out to bring The Rolling Stones to Coachella in 2011. Hits Daily Double says that, according to sources, the festival is "very close to finalizing a deal" with the world famous rock and rollers.

According to the site's Rumor Mill section, the headlining slot would earn Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and pals $5 million. Reportedly, that's $1.5 million more than Coachella shelled out for another British invader – rock legend Paul McCartney.

The California music festival – officially known as Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival – takes place every April. The fest has often scored big-name acts to appear at the three-day event. McCartney, Prince, Sly Stone and Madonna have performed at Coachella in recent years. -

Sebastian Bach Nude Photo Mischief Arrest
(hennemusic) Things seem to be settling down in the case of Sebastian Bach, following a 48-hour whirlwind of activity and headlines. Bach appeared in a Toronto courtroom Tuesday to deal with an outstanding warrant for a 2004 charge of mischief under $5,000.

The details of that incident have now come to light: it seems Bach trashed Filmores strip club in Toronto after staff refused to give him a naked (topless) picture of his wife, Maria Bierk, which was on display at the club.

Reports say Sebastian was in the bar when he noticed the picture; when staff wouldn't turn it over, Bach tried to get it himself, unsuccessfully, as it was behind a plexiglass covering. Bach then threw an ashtray, which broke a $12,000 etched glass plate featuring the club's logo. - more on this story

Family Tragedy Forces Suicidal Tendencies Off The Road
Suicidal Tendencies have been forced to pull out of their current North American tour. The band explains:

"Sunday Night ST played NYC to 2000 old and newschool Cycos! It's always great to hit the East Coast and catch up with a lot of our friends, bands and family. Unfortunately the NYC show will be the last show of this tour. Sadly, one of the band members had a parent pass away suddenly and needed to fly home to be with his family in this difficult time and handle all the funeral arrangements, etc.

"With heavy hearts, the band decided it would be best to postpone the remaining ST shows and make them up sometime next year. We appreciate your understanding, your thoughts and your prayers. Please give us a few days and we will try and let those who already have tickets how how to get refunds, etc. Again, we are so sorry to have to postpone these shows, but hope that everyone will be able to understand, and we'll do our best to make the dates up." - more on this story

Cavalera Conspiracy Going Soph
Cavalera Conspiracy's sophomore album, Blunt Force Trauma, is due out in March via Roadrunner Records.

The band released Inflikted in 2008 to much critical and fan acclaim. The album was a momentous occasion in the heavy metal universe, as it reunited brothers Max and Iggor Cavalera for the first time since Max left Sepultura in 1996.

The Brothers Cavalera co-founded Sepultura, the Brazilian metal band that redefined and established the genre outside of the US and Europe. After Max exited the band, there was a rift between himself and his brother, one that was eventually repaired through the redemptive power of music. Some time had passed and Max and Iggor were unable to resist the musical pull in their magnetic fields and their musical collaboration was renewed. The duo are back for round two with Cavalera Conspiracy. - more on this story

The Story of the Beatles Love Me Do Drummer
(Gibson) News broke on this day in 2000, just as The Beatles' 1 album was re-affirming the band as the best in history, that the drummer who played on "Love Me Do" had earned himself another few pounds for his drum parts, but only for the same fee as he had earned back in 1962. Like Pete Best, another drummer linked permanently to the Liverpool group, Andy White has a fascinating story to tell.

It was September 1962 when top session drummer White was called to participate in a Beatles recording session at the EMI Studios at Abbey Road, London. White was a seasoned drummer, 10 years older than The Beatles and had backed up some rock and roll greats including Chuck Berry. White told MyCentralJersey.com in 2008 about his band backing Berry in Scotland: "We used some big band arrangements and put a back beat to it to fit in with the rock 'n' roll thing. I got the chance to hear rock 'n' roll in the flesh. That was where I got a good idea about what it was supposed to happen, drum-wise. It helped me in the studio game because the musicians at the time didn't like it – the jazz guys didn't dig rock 'n' roll."

On September 11, 1962 White recorded two songs, "Love Me Do" and "P.S. I Love You," and only really interacted with John Lennon and Paul McCartney. He remembers that, "the only two people I was really involved with was John and Paul because they were the writers. They didn't use any written music, and what I had to do was play the routines with them to get an idea what they wanted before we could even start recording." - more on this story

Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band Returns
(PR) Before the Grateful Dead, the Warlocks and even Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions, Jerry Garcia played in the Black Mountain Boys, a band he formed in the early 1960s with the exceptionally talented Sandy Rothman (mandolin) and David Nelson (guitar). Together only a short time, they played the kind of bluegrass, country, gospel and old-time music that swept through coffeehouses coast-to-coast in the post-Beat, pre-Beatles era that Garcia called: "the folk scare."

The trio came together again in 1987 to form the Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band with John Kahn (upright bass), Kenny Kosek (fiddle) and David Kemper (drums). The group's brief but glorious arc spanned more than two dozen shows in 1987 and 1988, when it opened for the Jerry Garcia (electric) Band.
The beloved group is spotlighted with a newly remastered version of 1988's long out-of-print Almost Acoustic, the sextet's sole release, and the arrival of its sequel, Ragged But Right.

Almost Acoustic presents a sprightly selection of performances recorded during shows at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles and The Warfield in San Francisco. The album's 14 tracks include tunes popularized by the likes of Jimmy Rodgers ("Blue Yodel #9 (Standin' On The Corner)"), Tex Logan ("Diamond Joe"), Bill Monroe ("The Girl At The Crossroads Bar"), and Mississippi John Hurt ("Spike Driver Blues.") Also featured is "Ripple," which was written by Garcia and longtime Dead lyricist Robert Hunter.

Encouraged by the album's warm reception, Rothman produced a successor titled Ragged But Right that has remained unreleased for more than 20 years–until now. Its 14 songs double the JGAB's official canon with additional selections from the Warfield and Wiltern shows, plus performances from the band's historic two-week stand on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
