"It'll be very traditional - strings, upright bass, jazz horns, piano, and guitar," WENN reports Weiland's description of the project. "I'm sort of picking various versions of these songs...my favourite versions, with a little twist."

The Stone Temple Pilots' frontman has said he was inspired to do a full recording based on the positive reaction to his 2009 holiday single, "Have Yourself A Merry little Christmas." - Comments from Weiland about this release

Vince Neil Assault Case Dropped
(hennemusic) There's one less court case for Motley Crue's Vince Neil to deal with following news that the investigation into his alleged assault on a woman in a Las Vegas elevator last month has been closed due to insufficient evidence, according to a report by Contactmusic.

As we told you last month (see "Motley Crue's Vince Neil accused of assault" here and "Vince Neil's assault allegations 'completely unfounded'" here), Jessica Radowicz filed a police report claiming she was manhandled by Neil when she recognized him in an elevator at the Las Vegas Hilton resort, and the alleged altercation left her shaken up and bruised.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officials launched an investigation but have now closed the case, insisting surveillance video doesn't support the alleged victim's story. - more on this story

Sex, Drugs and Billy Idol The Memoir
Some big news for those wanting to know the inside story of Billy Idol, he has signed with Touchstone, a division of Simon & Schuster, to write his memoir, Dancing with Myself.

Here is the announcement: Idol, a natural-born storyteller who helped forge the early punk music scene on his way to multiplatinum worldwide success, will write the book himself. His bold, strikingly literary account will capture not only his remarkably colorful life, but also an extended period in music history that saw punk rock's emergence through to its lasting impact on musicians across the world.

Stacy Creamer, Vice President and Publisher of Touchstone made the agreement for North American, open market and first serial rights with Kirby Kim at WME. In addition, Dancing with Myself will be published in the UK by Simon & Schuster UK, where Colin Midson will edit. Touchstone will publish Dancing with Myself sometime in late 2011 or early 2012. - more on this story

Singled Out: The 88 (Featuring Ray Davies)
Today Adam Merrin from The 88 tells us how The Kinks legend Ray Davies came to appear on "They Ought To See You Now" from their brand new album "Center Of The Sun". We now turn it over to Adam for the story:

When we were recording at Konk Studios with Ray Davies for his new collaboration album, we asked him if he would want to sing on one of our songs. When he said yes, I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Every time I think that Ray Davies is on our album, I am still in disbelief.

Also when we were in England, we played a show at Bush Hall in London. Our friend and talented photographer, Eric Cwiertny came along to take photos and videos of the trip. He filmed us playing, "They Ought To See You Now" with a small handheld camera, as well as some behind the scenes footage.

The video that he edited together for this song blew us away (can be seen here). It is filled with so many interesting images and effects, that you can watch this over and over and notice something new each time.

I had a great time recording this song. We rented an old Hammond B3 organ and a Leslie speaker, which is such a powerful instrument to play. It is so much more dynamic and has more range than any modern keyboard out there. Also, we had Anthony's dad come in to play tambourine on the song, which was a real treat. He's been playing on records since the 1970's, and is a great percussionist. And of course to watch Keith sing the vocals on this song, or any for that matter, is always amazing experience. I filmed him signing which Eric also incorporated into the video.

Andrew Alekel engineered and mixed this album and did a fantastic job. We really hit it off with him in the studio. The entire recording and mixing process was very easy since we were always on the same page. The song was a lot of fun to make, and I think it comes off that way when you hear it. Hope you like it!

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!

My Chemical Romance Black Parade HDTV Special

Filmed in the 23,000 seat theater Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City, the band's co-founder Gerard Way said, "It's the most pure, intense thing we've ever been involved in."

After years of touring, the band offers two incredible concerts as they move forward musically to ceremoniously end the era of The Black Parade. The album The Black Parade was My Chemical Romance's follow-up to their 2004 platinum major-label debut Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, and was "way more dramatic, way more theatrical, completely over the top, borderline psychotic," says Gerard Way. - more on this story

Black Francis Rock Opera
(Gibson) Pixies frontman Black Francis (aka Frank Black, nee Charles Thompson) will soon be bringing to life a long undead monster of silent film by way of an original rock opera.

The Golem Rock Album, to be released November 16 exclusively through the Black Francis website, takes as its source material The Golem, a classic 1920 silent film that tells the story of a giant clay warrior who is created to defend the people of Prague's Jewish ghetto. In the film, as on the album, the lumbering Golem is not so easily controlled, and a good deal of carnage ensues.

Black Francis's musical interest in the Golem tale began when he was asked to create a score to be performed for a 2008 screening of the film at the San Francisco International Film Festival. The material has not been performed live since then, though Black Francis did record the work with producer and longtime collaborator Eric Drew Feldman. That recording of the score was released as a double album earlier this year, but on the forthcoming album BF has shaped and refined the material into a stand-alone rock opera that tells the Golem tale through dramatic tunes such as "Bad News," "Meet Me at the Ghetto Gates" and "You're Gonna Pay." - more on this story

Pink Floyd's Moon Fell On This Day
(Gibson) On this day in 1988, Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon finally left Billboard's Hot 200 Album Chart after a record-breaking 741 weeks. Gibson takes a look back: It's a record that has never been duplicated. It's a feat that rock and roll will never see again.

Pink Floyd not only unleashed a rock classic when they put out The Dark Side of the Moon in 1973, they created a monster. While it would only hold the #1 spot for a week, it would go on to become one of the biggest selling albums in music history, remaining on the Billboard 200 chart for the next 15 years.

Band of Horses Team With Marching Band for Cee Lo Cover
(Columbia) Inspired by Cee Lo's viral smash cover of their "No One's Gonna Love You," Band of Horses have teamed with the University of Georgia Redcoat Marching Band for their own unique take on "Georgia," the recently leaked track from Cee Lo's forthcoming Lady Killer album.

Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses recalls the genesis of the "Georgia" single: "This began as a very random idea I had on my dad's patio after we watched our beloved Georgia Bulldog football team get robbed of a win at the hands of the referees and LSU last year. I knew I wanted to pay homage to my favorite team in song but didn't have any idea how to begin. Once I heard Cee Lo's 'Georgia,' I was immediately smitten and figured that's as good as any tribute to any state I've ever heard. It wasn't until I heard his cover of our song though that it occurred to me: Duh, we should return the favor. Incorporating the Redcoat marching band was just the icing on the cake! This song is so nostalgic to me as my parents grew up in Atlanta and have so many family members in the great state of Georgia. It's always been a second home of sorts. We've played some great shows there as well, including our run of annual New Years Eve shows in Atlanta from 2007-2009." - more on this story

Entourage's Adrian Grenier Tells The Good Listeners Don't Quit Your Daydream
Entourage star Adrian Grenier presents his documentary "Don't Quit Your Daydream" at Carmel, today (Oct 8th). No other details about that event were provided to us, but we were given some background on the film:

Adrian Grenier's award-winning documentary "Don't Quit Your Daydream" is a story that follows the struggles of The Good Listeners, a rock band that embarks on a cross-country trip to cut an album. They embark on a last ditch, cross-country, album-recording extravaganza to save their musical identity and hopefully their careers.

The idea is simple: collaborate with a collection of mostly local, unknown and eclectic talent across the United States, from a down and out Memphis blues guitarist and mechanic to a banjo-playing gator swamp tour guide, to create a diverse new album. - more on this story
