New U2 Album Coming Before Next Tour Leg
(hennemusic) U2 fans will have new music from the band early next year, according to manager Paul McGuinness.

"I would expect a new U2 album sooner than anybody thinks," McGuinness told the Irish Times. "I would guess early 2011, before the next leg of the American tour, which starts in May."

McGuinness' comments echo Bono's sentiments from his Rolling Stone interview back in August. When asked about playing rescheduled shows in North America next summer, Bono said "That's going to be great. We'll maybe have a new album – I think we probably will. So it's kind of wonderful. Those people are going to have tickets to a whole new show with new songs. It's going to be very exciting next year." - more on this story

After the gig, Ratliff tweeted, "Just got THEE sickest early bday present ever! Got to play 'Enter Sandman' on stage with the baddest singer and band ever!!!! thank you guys!" while Pittman said, "We surprised Tommy by doing 'Enter Sandman'-Metallica for his birthday! Default has announced the release of a new album and a new tour. The band will hit the road with Hinder for a winter tour kicking off November 17th at House Of Blues in Cleveland, OH. The tour will hit select cities across the US through December 18th.

Default's new album Comes and Goes will be released October 25th through AudioNest/Fontana. "We really believe in this record, and can't wait for our fans to hear it." The first single from the new effort "Turn It On", is at rock radio now.

The members of Default are eager to take the new songs directly to the fans that have flocked to their shows and bombarded their Facebook with comments, most of them expressing anticipation for new Default music. Pearl Jam Skate Park
(Gibson) Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament has opened a skate park in his hometown of Big Sandy, Montana, according to The Great Falls Tribune. The rocker donated $40,000 to fund the park's construction and was at the site for its unveiling last week.

Ament has been a skater since 1976. He said he plans on donating boards, helmets and pads to local children who can't afford to buy their own.

"As small towns get smaller and smaller, I think it becomes more important for kids to have something to do outside of just school sports," he said. "My dad helped me build ramps, now I can give kids around here something else to do." - more on this story

Toilets Kill Music Festival
(Gibson) The 2012 edition of long-running British music festival Glastonbury is being cancelled for a very crappy reason: the lack of availability of portable toilets. Glastonbury 2012 would be taking place at the same time of the London Summer Olympics, and organizers don't believe they will be able to compete to bring facilities to the festival site, according to the Daily Mail.

"We have our own stock of portable toilets but we always need more," festival organizer Michael Eavis said. "We shop around with four companies to get the best price, but we are not bothering for 2012. There will be a huge demand for Portaloo toilets in London, so every¬one will push up their prices and I can see it getting very expensive."

But the Portaloos (as they are called in England) aren't the only reason for the cancelation. Eavis also said that the festival usually employs 600 police officers to keep its crowds of 130,000 safe, and that many of those officers will be working in London during the summer games. "We were told that there will not be enough police to cover the festival in 2012 as they will all be in London," he said. The Olympics will require more than 9,000 officers, according to the Daily Mail. - more on this story

Filter is hitting the road this Friday for The No Love Tour which kicks off in Dallas, Texas.

Pink Floyd Might Reunite
We touched on this yesterday in the digest but Gibson has more details today: Although Pink Floyd bassist Roger Waters has said that the band will never tour again, drummer Nick Mason isn't so sure. He told the BBC, "I think it would be a very nice way for a band to gently move towards retirement, by doing shows absolutely for charity rather than for more income. In a way the best thing would be to do a number of shows and have some sort of foundation."

Of course, Waters and guitarist David Gilmour performed a few Floyd classics (plus The Teddy Bears' "To Know Him is to Love Him") over the summer in support of the HOPING Foundation. As a result of that collaboration, Gilmour promised Waters that he would show up to play "Comfortably Numb" on one of Waters' tour dates. The bassist is currently on a world tour celebrating Floyd's The Wall.

About a month ago, Waters put the kibosh on the idea of a tour because of Rick Wright's passing in 2008. "It's just such a shame that we didn't get around to it before Rick died," he told Rolling Stone. Waters, Gilmour, Mason and Wright did reunite in 2005 for a mini-set at Live 8. -

Singled Out: Dillon Campbell
Today Dillon Campbell (son of music legend Glen Campbell" tells us about "Save Yourself"" from his new EP "Tomorrow Actually". Here is the story:

"Save Yourself" refers to a character who speeds through life avoiding details. A character who shows more concern for those around them than they do for themselves. A character who has been "running around saving everyone else". This holds the character back from living life to the fullest. Hence, the title "Save Yourself". It also brings forth the idea that "the human soul lives behind the eye".

This comes originally from something Cicero, a roman statesman, spoke in the years before Christ. But I had remembered it from a poem by John Keats, if I remember correctly. The eyes are the window to the soul. The song states that "everything that was born was meant to die". We all go through this process, I suppose. It is inescapable. It is life. It is death. And rebirth. The song also vaguely hints at the destruction of the world with the line "we live in the desert, but we die in the sea" and the repetition of the words "pentecostal preacher".

Fire and brimstone, indeed. In this sense, the song's title is almost a command: Save Yourself!

The song came to me in a flash of lightning. A flash of inspiration. I wrote it in about ten minutes. Like an intelligent brainfart, or something. Where the idea came from, I don't know. The lyrics just sort of went along with what I was writing and playing, musically.

That's how it normally goes for me. If I have to think twice about what I am writing, I generally trash it. I don't really like second thoughts or second drafts. Your first instinct is right 98% of the time. That's what I believe anyway.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!

Goo Goo Dolls Wrote Their Biggest Hit In A Couple Hours
Goo Goo Dolls frontman Johnny Rzeznik says it took him only about one or two hours to write the band's biggest hit, "Iris."

Rzeznik told Ultimate Guitar that Iris is unique among his song stash, as it usually takes up "five years" to write a song. "I was really sort of doubting what I was supposed to do at that point," he said. "We had a hit with a song called 'Name' and it was sort of like winning the lottery and everyone around you goes, 'Wow, that was amazing. Do it again.' It's kinda what it felt like; you start to doubt yourself. But it's interesting because the thing that I've learned about writer's block is that you just keep writing through it and you just get comfortable with the fact that you're gonna write a lot of stuff that you don't like and a lot of things that just aren't that good. But if you see it through to the other side you come up with a lot of material. It's a process of getting comfortable with frustration."

Philip Anselmo Produces New haarp Album
Philip Anselmo ventures to the other side of the mixing board with haarp. The famed Pantera frontman produced the band's new album, The Filth, and Anselmo's Housecore Records will release the effort on November 23rd, 2010. Here is the official word with more details:

With several DIY releases to their name, their debut full length album for Housecore Records, The Filth is an ugly, oppressive journey into heavy metal. Famed artist and tattoo master Paul Booth is credited for the amazing album artwork for the new record.

On August 27th, 2005, two of New Orleans' extreme metal bands, manic grind freaks rat in a bucket and black metal blazers De Capa Preta, were slated to play a show at the now defunct Dixie Taverne in the heart of Mid-City. Due to 'inclement weather' and the threat of Hurricane Katrina making landfall, the bands decided that since many people were evacuating the city, the show could not go on.

Paul McCartney Discusses Early Solo Inspiration
In a recent interview with ClashMusic.com, Paul McCartney discussed the inspiration for his first few solo albums, including McCartney and RAM, which have been described as experimental pop. After the breakup of The Beatles in 1970, McCartney said he was in the mood to try something new.

"I certainly was enjoying the freedom of just doing something different," he said. "I've always been like that, and I still am – it's like me doing The Fireman project: suddenly I can actually try something new."

But that wasn't the only driving force between those early '70s releases. "And then, the other element was that I knew I couldn't just try and make a carbon copy of The Beatles – I knew that was impossible; without John, George and Ringo there was no way I could do that," McCartney said. "So I knew I had to try and make something new. So each of the albums was to try and establish an identity for Wings that would then be recognized in time as Wings music – the Wings sound." Last Chance To Reason To Release New Concept Album Early Next Year
Last Chance To Reason will be releasing their second full length album, "Level 2," via their new label Prosthetic Records in early 2011.

Teaming up with producer Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me, The Human Abstract), Last Chance To Reason set out to create a modern take on the classic progressive concept album. Drawing influence from the 70's prog of King Crimson and Yes, composers Steve Reich and Schoenberg as well as prog-metal masters Opeth, Dream Theater and Cynic, LCTR's "Level 2" takes the band in awe-inspiring new directions.

Set in a Tron-like virtual world, the album's concept revolves around the relationship between man and technology, our move from physical reality to virtual spaces and what these changes mean to our lives and our art. The lyrics are expressed from the point of view of an artificial intelligence facing the violent reality of a videogame world. - more on this story

Pantheon I Have A New Voice
Pantheon I had some big news for fans about their lineup and their next album: If Pantheon I has seemed uncharacteristically quiet recently, it's because the band have been very, very busy working on things behind the scenes. However, we thought we'd take a few minutes breather and update you on what has been going on.

First of all, as you all know, we've been looking to increase the band by one more person with the addition of a vocalist. With the band expanding so much musically, this will allow Kvebek to put all his energies into the guitar, and give the band a frontman who is free to roam the stage and interact more closely with the audience.

Seems that there are a lot of very skilled vocalists out there who are interested in joining Pantheon I and we are spending a lot of time listening to demos and doing live auditions. - more on this story
