Fans Turn on Axl at Guns N' Roses Concert, Axl Storms Off Stage
Note to Guns N' Roses fans: don't throw stuff at Axl if you want the show to go on. Fans in Dublin found out this lesson the hard way. Rock Radio has the tale: Support act Danko Jones played for 70 minutes and went off at 9.10pm. But GnR didn't appear until 10.30, by which time the restless Dublin O2 audience had begun booing and hissing.

Eyewitnesses say Rose's performance was uninspiring until the band broke into Welcome to the Jungle. At that moment some bottles were thrown onto the stage, and Rose stopped the song to warn the crowd: "One more bottle and we're going home – we're here to have fun but one more and we're gone."

At 10.50 another bottle hit the stage while Rose was introducing the band. He said "Goodnight" and walked off, leaving the unhappy audience furious. Ten minutes later a venue official announced they were experiencing "technical difficulties" but hoped to bring GnR back on, but at 11.10 the house lights came up and arena staff began advising people the night was over. - The story doesn't end there

Scorpions To Return Next Year
Last week we brought you a review of what we thought was the Scorpions final North American concert but Gibson informs us today that the mighty Scorps will return to America: Call it animal magnetism or, perhaps, an elevated lovedrive, but the Scorpions just can't get enough of North America. And so, the German metal legends have extended their farewell tour with more U.S. dates to come next summer. The band are currently booking next summer's shows but have yet to announce any specific dates.

The North American leg of the Get Your Sting and Blackout Tour just concluded in Chicago on August 21, with the band playing in Mexico this Saturday and then heading back to Europe for further dates.

In a recent Billboard interview, singer Klaus Meine said, "What can I say? It's a celebration… We feel we owe it to our fans and ourselves to keep this energy level. What we pull off every night on this tour, we want to keep it that way to the very last show. We don't want to see ourselves rocking like a hurricane when it's not a hurricane anymore." - more on this story

Behemoth Frontman Shocked By Reaction To Cancer Fight
Behemoth frontman Nergal (real name Adam Darski) broke the news to fans last month that he has leukaemia and he has been shocked (in a good way) with the fan response and inquires about what they could do to help. He issued thisstatement:

"I haven't intended to manifest myself in any way and, especially at this stage, to share my feelings or any other news with the world for obvious reasons. It is simply too early for it. But it was YOU who provoked me to say a few words. Regarding my personal low opinion of humankind, I'm shocked by the reaction to my illness. I actually expected NOTHING yet received feedback which surpassed all expectations. I want to ensure you I read EACH mail I receive, although I'm unable to reply to all of them. The power of your words is pure magic and I thank you all for it. You are a gigantic indestructible army that truly inspires me in this difficult time. The fact is that a fight with this illness is going to last for many months. Most of this time I will spend in hospital and I will go through various psychophysical states. If you know the history of Behemoth you also know we achieved everything by hard work and a steely determination. The same goes for my private life. I happen to be a strong son of a bitch. I have no faith but rely on a 100% victory and I am sure I will get out of it stronger than ever. Sun Tzu in his 'Art of War' said that if you know your enemy and yourself the result of a thousand battles will not surprise you… I enter the ring with this Nietzschean attitude and I will leave it as a winner, as usual. Just watch and see!

"So I want to emphasize that Behemoth will by no means goes through any hibernation state. Obviously all concert plans must be postponed until some unknown point in the future, but things are happening! Lately our newest video for '…Alas, Lord is Upon Me' has premiered and stirred up quite a storm in mass media, which fills us with utter pride. Plus we've just finished the project of our new DVD; Evangelia Heretika is a three disc release, a real encyclopedia of Behemoth with nearly 5 hours of material and a bonus audio CD that will be out in November (Metal Blade US - Nuclear Blast Europe). Expect an experience of visual madness as we went to hell and back to make it! Our official Webstore has been functional for a couple of days and official merchandise and some very exclusive stuff can be bought there. At the beginning of 2011, Peaceville in Europe and Metal Blade in US will reissue the EPs with new artwork, bonuses, liner notes, and more. As you can see, despite a complicated situation and difficult circumstances we're remaining active wherever we can. - more on this story

Ben Moody Explains Evanescence Split
We told you a little about this last week but Gibson has more from Ben Moody about why he split with Evanescence: In 2003, after Evanescence has released the first album and hit the big time with the hard rock single "Bring Me to Life," founding guitarist and co-songwriter Ben Moody abruptly left the band, citing artistic differences with his former best friend, frontwoman Amy Lee. Although Lee talked about how Ben's focus was being on commercially successful and hers was on being creative, Moody never went on record about his departure. Seven years later, he's ready to talk.

In a post on an Evanescence fan site, Moody (who is now a member of We Are the Fallen) explained his point of view on the situation: "A cruel fact of life is that the person you are at 15, doesn't resemble the person you are at 18 and 21… and today I in no way resemble the person I was when I was in Evanescence. Sometimes you grow together and sometimes you grow apart. We both contributed to the resentment of the deterioration of our friendship that quickly turned into a downward spiral of animosity, conflicting opinions, and a very volatile environment. By the time we went on tour to support Fallen, it sadly was over. Ironically, it was Amy and my absolute equal devotion to Evanescence that drove us to such extreme opposition. We had such opposing desires and personalities that mixed with the pride of youth and inexperience (and an extreme amount of insecurity and loss of direction on my part) led to an all out war."

According to Moody's post, he was trying to force Lee – his friend since 1994, who had gotten most of the media attention as singer – out of the group. "I had tried before, out of ignorance, pride, and resentment, to convince Amy that she should leave. That we'd be better off and Evanescence didn't need her," he wrote. "I was hurt, and wanted her to hurt like me. Amy, if for some reason you happen to see this, I hope you know I never truly believed that. There was no way I would ever let someone walk on that stage and sing your lyrics." - more on this story

Singled Out: Stuedabakerbrown's Semi Automatic
Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Stuedabakerbrown frontman Pete Marotta tells us about "Semi Automatic" from their album "Strangers We'll Become". We now turn it over to for the story:

The song "Semi-Automatic" started as a two-chord riff created by Mike. It was given its name for no other reason then we needed something to reference it, and Mike thought of "Semi-Automatic" randomly. Steve then began to play a part on his guitar that could compliment Mike's, which later became the main riff in the verse. The rest of the song was created by jamming off of those two chords including the creation of the second half of the verse, which really made the song come to life for us.

We liked the instrumentation so much that, structurally, we made sure we left space for the song to expand and gain momentum (which you can hear after the second chorus). At the time we were writing the song, Bloc Party and Minus the Bear heavily influenced us, particularly the atmospheric moods they create in their songs.

Melody always takes precedence over lyrics at the start for me so I did not have the lyrics until much later on. In fact, I had a different melody for the chorus for some time, which I still love, but in the end we decided to go with a melody that was less choppy to give it a different and bigger feel than the verses.

The lyrics are really a conversation with love as if it were a physical being, but I like that the lyrics can be interpreted into any relationship whether it is with a lover, family member, God, etc…

We chose the song as a single because we felt it captured all of the elements of how our sound has progressed in the process of creating Strangers We'll Become. It is a song full of passion with an indie feel and a wide-open melodic chorus. It also encompassed the main lyrical theme from the album of struggling against the fragile nature of one's relationships in life.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!

The Everly Brothers Reunion DVD and Documentary
Eagle Rock has announced the release of the The Everly Brothers: The Reunion Concert – Live At The Royal Albert Hall which will include bonus documentary "Rock 'N' Roll Odyssey".

When Phil Everly was asked what the most memorable moment of his career was, he recalled a special night in September of 1983, when he reunited with his brother Don onstage at the famed Royal Albert Hall. This incredible concert will now be available on DVD on September 14, courtesy of Eagle Rock Entertainment.

It had been over ten years since the split of this harmonious duo. The vacuum of time was felt when they hit the stage, when the magic of their music spilled over and set the crowd alight. Performing 22 beloved songs, Phil and Don caress the crowd with their pristine vocal harmonies, dancing acoustic guitars, and brilliant songwriting. This is the sound that dominated the charts of the late fifties and early sixties, and if this concert is any indication, the sound is still just as timeless and moving today.

The World According To Gene Simmons
(Gibson) The always-quotable KISS and reality TV star Gene Simmons explained the feeling he gets when on stage: "It's electric church, there's no experience like it. Popes, Presidents, Prime Ministers, even Kings, none of them get to feel like I do. Only maybe Olympian Gods would.'

On a more serious note, Simmons also explained that his lust for life is rooted in his mother's wartime experiences.

Simmons said: "My mother, at 14, was in the concentration camps of Nazi Germany. And saw her whole family incinerated in the ovens. Her philosophy has always been: every day above ground is a good day. Life is a gift, not a birthright. Don't waste it." - more on this story

System of a Letdown
Rock Radio ran a great article recently about System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian. In the article Serj discussed how the band would approach letting fans know if and when the band decided to reunite. Some people read into his comments that the band are actually planning a reunion and Rock Radio followed up with a clarification from Serj. Here is part of that follow up:

Rock Radio got it wrong – we misquoted Serj Tankian on the current status of System of a Down. They're not close to considering a comeback. We also made errors in reporting what he said about his solo career.

Serj tells us: "I never said we had discussed how we would alert people of a reunification. All I said was that if we ever did it it would be on the band's website. That's something we would all agree to. Instead it sounds like there's something in the works. I also never said my record was orchestral rock, nor that I'm writing a jazz opera in Cambridge." He's asked us to clarify our reporting and we're happy to do so in a new question and answer session which took place last night. - more on this story

Neil Young and Daniel Lanois Team Up for New Album and DVD
Neil Young has teamed up with Daniel Lanois to recording a new album, Le Noise, which is set to hit stores via Reprise Records on September 28th.

Le Noise will be released in several formats, including standard CD, vinyl, digital download, and as a deluxe CD/DVD. The DVD portion, shot by cinematographer Adam Vollick, will feature eight black and white films of Young performing each song solo on acoustic and electric guitar live in the studio. In November, Reprise will also release a Blu-Ray edition, featuring Lanois and Vollick's beautifully shot films of Young.

Young and Lanois have crossed paths musically over the course of many years, including Lanois' performances at Young's Bridge School Benefit Concert and Young's performance at Farm Aid when Lanois was Willie Nelson's music director, but this is the first time the two have recorded together. Recorded in Lanois' home in the Silverlake area of Los Angeles, Le Noise features Young on acoustic and electric guitars with Lanois adding his trademark sonic textures, creating one of the most sonically arresting albums Young has ever recorded. No band, no overdubs, just "a man on a stool and me doing a nice job on the recording," as Lanois puts it.

Slash 3D
Why watch Slash in 2 dimensions when you can see him in 3D? You now can! Gibson reports: Slash's first video from his debut solo album, Slash, which was released in April, is now available in 3D. "By the Sword" features vocals from Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother and ferocious guitar from the Chapeaued Shredder.

The 3D conversion was produced by PassmoreLab. In a press statement, Slash said, "From Andrew's vocals, to Vance directing me again, to PassmoreLab doing the 3D, it has been a killer experience and I am thrilled with it."

Vance Burberry, director of the video has worked with Slash since his Guns N' Roses days, where he was director of photography on the band's "Sweet Child o' Mine," "Paradise City" and "Welcome to the Jungle" rock videos. "On this one, we created a kind of post-apocalyptic future, where people are starved for music," Burberry said. "We end up underground in this dark, deserted power plant bunker, where Slash and the band are mesmerizing an audience. When I found out that we were doing the conversion with PassmoreLab, I thought that environment was perfect for 3D." - more on this story

Adam Lambert Sings Freddie Mercury's Praises
(Gibson) In a recent NPR piece about Queen frontman Freddie Mercury's legacy, former American Idol contestant Adam Lambert praised the gifts of the late singer. "He was completely over the top in the best possible way," Lambert said. "Music, most of the time, is about sexuality, whether you are straight, gay or in between. It's about love and sex. That's rock 'n' roll."

Lambert said that it makes him unhappy that few of his contemporaries embrace Freddie's style.

"There's definitely something missing in today's music scene," he said. "We don't have a lot of men on stage doing flamboyant or theatrical. We have a lot of female pop stars doing it, but where are the guys? Where's the classic pop-rock showman?" - more on this story

Survivor Members Jim Peterik and Jimi Jamison Releasing New Album
It's not quite a full on Survivor reunion but two members got together a couple years ago for an album and now they are releasing more material from those sessions.

Gibson reports: One-time Survivor bandmates Jim Peterik and Jimi Jamison got together a few years ago to work on a new solo album for Jamison. Titled Crossroads Moment, the singer's album was released in 2008 to critical and fan praise. But Peterik and Jamison spent a year writing songs for the album, many of which didn't make the final cut. Burgeoning indie label Melodic Rock Records has compiled some of those tunes on the new release, Extra Moments.

The 11-track album is rounded out with some alternate takes and demo recordings, which feature lead vocals from Jim Peterik (also known for his work in the Ides of March). - more on this story
