Axl Rose Addresses Guns N' Roses Rumors
Axl Rose once again took to his Twitlonger account to address the recent rumors swirling around Guns N' Roses and also to announce yet another change in management.

The key issues addressed were the rumored U.S. tour plans as well as the relaunch of "Chinese Democracy." Here is what he had to say:

Contrary to anyone's claims there are no concrete plans nor were there ever for a tour, a relaunch or sponsors (n' certainly not to replace anyone in the band) beyond a collection of random ideas thrown out by various individuals w/out any real foundation or negotiations in place other than our prior involvements (which wouldn't take a rocket scientist to put together). And 4 the record Doc McGhee is no longer involved w/either myself or GN'R. Axl's post

Megadeth Plan Peace Sells Celebration
(Gibson) Fresh off last year's Rust in Peace anniversary tour (as well as the wildly successful "Big Four" tour), Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine is pondering how to celebrate the silver anniversary of one of the band's other landmark albums, Peace Sells… But Who's Buying?!

"We've already had people talk to us about doing [an anniversary tour]," Mustaine told the VH1 Radio Network. "I told our manager that I'm totally interested in doing Peace Sells… for a 25th anniversary this year, but I don't want to do it all year like we did with Rust in Peace. I want to do it towards the end of the year."

Mustaine said that he would like to approach the anniversary shows as special events and not as the band's bread-and-butter tour. "You know, when you tour you've got to really be creative nowadays, and when we tour, we like to tour-tour, and then when we do special shows, which are called one-offs. We like to do real key one-offs. And I think it would be really cool to do a hard tour where you're canvassing all the areas that you need to hit and then, if you do something symbolic like the Peace Sells… anniversary tour, just do like the Stones do, do twelve cities around the world." more on this story

Joe Perry Denies Leaving Aerosmith
(hennemusic) When Aerosmith regrouped late last month with co-writer Marti Frederiksen, to begin writing sessions for their next album, guitarist Joe Perry was notably absent.

Billboard reported that Perry was unable to attend the sessions due to an unspecified commitment and, according to Frederiksen, his bandmates were "missing" him.

Those inside Aerosmith's inner circle may be hip to things, but Perry felt the need to clear the air about his status with the band these days; he replied to several questions from fans via Twitter to explain his side of the story. Take a look at Perry's tweets on the subject

Led Zeppelin Physical Graffi-tea House
(Gibson) An iconic building in New York City's East Village, which served as the subject of one of rock's great album covers, is undergoing a facelift.

The building at 96 St. Mark's Place was made famous in 1975 when designer Peter Corriston and cover artist Mike Doud photographed it (and the neighboring 98 St. Mark's Place) for the cover of Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti album. The building later served as the backdrop of The Rolling Stones' "Waiting on a Friend" video.

Over the years, the building has housed a variety of establishments, most recently a vintage boutique. Now, the shop is being reinvented once again, in full celebration of its Zeppelin connection. more on this story

Classic Rush Album Going 5.1 Surround Sound
One of Rush's most loved albums is getting a sonic make-over. No, we're not talking about the band's announced plans to remix "Vapor Trails," we have to go back 30 years to the 1981 classic "Moving Pictures" which is getting the 5.1 surround sound remix treatment from producer/engineer Richard Chycki.

Chycki confirmed the news on his website: Ok, so the word is out. I've been in the studio for last month remixing the original Moving Pictures CD in 5.1 surround. I finished tweaks on 'Red Barchetta' yesterday. It really was an amazing experience to spread the original tracks of such a classic CD into the 3D word of surround. (The car speeds off, goes behind and banks a sharp right in rear BTW). The listening experience is drastically enveloping and coupled with songs and performances that epitomize this band, it's definitely a great time to re-discover Rush.

After discussion with the band, the goal here was to pay serious homage to the production of the era so a considerable amount of time was spent researching and working through effects etc. that matched the original but would fare well in the 5.1 world. And of course, placement was also a critical issue. I'm pleased with the results and Alex Lifeson was pretty blown away when he came in to listen to the finals. Richard's site

Steven Tyler Autobiography Coming in May
(hennemusic) Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler's new autobiography, "Does The Noise In My Head Bother You?," is scheduled for release on May 11.

The 352-page hardcover book traces Tyler's youth in the Bronx, his early music career and influences, his legendary partnership with Joe Perry, the meteoric rise, fall, and rise of Aerosmith over the last three decades, their music, his epic romantic life, his relationship with his four children, including actress Liv Tyler and actress and author Mia Tyler, life on the road and in the spotlight, the economics of the rock star business - and all the sex, drugs, and rock and roll a reader could ask for.

Tyler spent the last few years working on his book, which he says will be more personal than the material covered in the band 2003 autobiography, "Walk This Way: The Autobiography Of Aerosmith." more on this story

Watch The Extended Ozzy Osbourne and Justin Bieber Super Bowl Ad
(hennemusic) Ozzy Osbourne and Justin Bieber teamed up to do a Super Bowl commercial for retailer Best Buy; the ad aired during the third quarter of Sunday's game.

Three variations of the ad have surfaced online: a regular 30-second commercial; an extended 60-second one; and, a 90-second 'behind the scenes' version.

You can bet Best Buy paid the guys some big bucks to be in the ad, let alone the money it cost to run it during one of the most-watched TV events of the year; Reuters reported that a single 30-second ad cost $3 million dollars to air during Super Bowl 45. Check out the video clips here

Dead Of Night features Matt Bachand (Shadows Fall), Jon Donais (Shadows Fall), Derek Kerswill (ex-Unearth, ex-Seemless, Kingdom Of Sorrow), Jeff Fultz (ex-Seemless) and singer Jason Witte (ex-Goaded).

Recorded by the band and mixed by Chris "Zeuss" Harris, Dead Of Night says that the new demos conjure sounds of classic metal and rock influences such as early Metallica, Motley Crue, Alice In Chains and even Whitesnake, yet still maintain a modern edge that is clearly heard in songs such as 'Shades of Grey' and 'In Your Hands'. more on this story

(hennemusic) It only lasted about 90 seconds, but Slash did make a guest appearance with The Black Eyed Peas on Sunday at Super Bowl 45, as rumored this week.

Early in the Peas' 12-minute medley of hits, the sounds of Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child O' Mine" kicked in, and Slash rose on a platform from under the stage to make his arrival in front of the Texas crowd.

Greatest Guitar Riffs of All Time
Gibson.com recently called upon its editors, writers and – most importantly – readers, to weigh in on the greatest riffs in music history. After all the votes were tallied, we were left with the Top 50 Guitar Riffs of All Time, and we're revealing the first 10 riffs today. Check back each day this week as Gibson.com unveils 10 more famous riffs, with the Top 10 coming on Friday.

49. "School's Out," Alice Cooper (1972): Few riffs have been as instantly memorable as the one that powers Alice Cooper's "School's Out." According to original Cooper bassist Dennis Dunaway, lead guitarist Glen Buxton came up with the part during the band's early years, while jamming with songwriter-guitarist Reggie Vincent. Coupled with Cooper's serrated vocals, the part became ferocious. "Glen's playing was all about feel, and was edgy and loose," Dunaway says. "His playing was like an angry hornet." –Russell Hall

48. "Louie Louie," The Kingsmen (1963): The Kingsmen's 1963 version of this Richard Berry track is a hormone-charged, keg-party-soundtrackin' classic, a reputation enhanced but certainly not defined by its appearance in National Lampoon's Animal House. The simple I-IV-V-IV riff is hypnotic and raucous, and best of all – it's dead simple to play, even for beginner guitarists. Meanwhile, the vocal hook practically demands that you and your pals gather around and holler it at full volume. – Peter Hodgson The rest of today's list here

Singled Out: Amul 9
Today Zoser from Amul 9 tells us about "Know Thy Overseer" from their brand new album "Elevated Beings," (which was produced by Bad Brains member Earl Hudson.) Here is the story:

"Know Thy Overseer" is one of the band's favorite songs produced by Earl Hudson from legendary hardcore band Bad Brains. EARL received the original version on disc then came back to the rehearsal spot and re-arranged the song. Once the music was re-arranged and ready to be recorded we laid down the tracks here at Griffin Studios here in Atlanta, GA.

Earl showed our drummer some techniques on accents and grooves also he tried to pump us up to give the tracks more life and energy. "Know Thy Overseer" is a song that talks about addictions be it drugs, food, sex or whatever it is they are dealing with. It motivates and informs the individual that this issue is another test that is presented to the individual in life. The individual needs to own up to the mistake and find whatever it is inside of them to become victorious over the situation. In ancient Egypt in the ancient mystery school a sign would hang in the entrances of the temples and it would read. "know thyself". "KNOW THY OVERSEER" was influenced by this thought process. Quite simply once you realize who you are you control your own actions and become accountable and responsible.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!

AC/DC Exhibit Headed To Glasgow
(Gibson) This September the "AC/DC Australia's Family Jewels" exhibit will park itself in Glasgow, Scotland — the birthplace of the Young brothers — after having opened already in Melbourne and Sydney, where the band originated.

The exhibit celebrates nearly four decades of AC/DC with more than 400 items, among them photos, instruments, posters, tickets, letters, lyrics, and other band memorabilia.

"I traveled all over the place from Sydney to Glasgow and New York — contacting collectors, visiting old friends, family and roadies, searching photographer's archives, reading endless press stories and all the unapproved biographies, generally sorting out fact from fiction about the band's history," said exhibition curator Tim Fisher on the exhibit website. more on this story

The Day Led Zeppelin Hit The Top
(Gibson) On this day in 1970, Led Zeppelin scored their first U.K. #1 album with Led Zeppelin II. Featuring the U.S. single "Whole Lotta Love," it stayed on the chart for 138 weeks on its way to selling over 6 million copies in the U.S. Gibson takes a look back: Led Zeppelin were busy bees during the first part of 1969. Touring heavily in support of their debut album, Led Zeppelin, the band criss-crossed Europe four times and the United States three times during an eight month period between January and August. In between performing and partying and laying the foundation for becoming this biggest rock band on the planet, they also found time to conceive and record what would eventually become their critically-acclaimed and wildly successful sophomore effort, Led Zeppelin II.

Embolden by their debut recording and touring success, Led Zeppelin kept the ball rolling with Led Zeppelin II by not only furthering the lyrical themes introduced in its predecessor, but also by displaying a growing and evolving musical palette, replete with blues-based monster riffage coupled with a healthy dollop of ethereal folk. The bulk of the album's recording took place between concerts, with each song recorded, mixed and produced separately from the others, and in different studios in the U.S., U.K. and Canada.

According to bassist John Paul Jones, this creative spontaneity only added to the overall flavor, and eventual success, of the album. "We were touring a lot," Jones said. "Jimmy [Page's] riffs were coming fast and furious. A lot of them came from on-stage, especially during the long improvised section of 'Dazed and Confused.' We'd remember the good stuff and dart into a studio along the way." more on this story

The Manic Street Preachers' Distraught Over Failure
(Gibson) Bass player Nicky Wire was more than a little disappointed with The Manic Street Preachers' single "But Some Kind of Nothingness," which failed to make the U.K. Top 40.

According to the Daily Express he was distraught: "My excitement always turns into a real dose of fear when I'm waiting for a chart position or to find out whether the radio's going to play our record. It's like waiting for that envelope to drop through the door and see you've got a D in geography. I was quite distraught that "Some Kind of Nothingness," our single, missed the Top 40. I was gutted."

Timothy B. Schmit Won't Be Retiring Anytime Soon
(Gibson) Eagles bassist and singer Timothy B. Schmit has no plans to retire. When asked about any plans to retire he told Spinner that he finds the idea quite strange.

"The concept is absurd to me. I was shocked at the question. I felt like saying, 'Are you nuts? What are you talking about? What am I gonna do — sit on the couch and eat Bon Bons and watch TV? I don't want to do that.' I want to go on as long as I can, and there's quite a bit of that left."

Schmit recently released the solo album Expando. "What this album showed me is I started to scratch the surface of some really good s--- here," he said. "I felt like I was discovering some new stuff, and I actually was reaching a little deeper maybe to come up with the good stuff. I think Expando is really my best work so far, and I always thought that "Friday Night" was more of a single than any of the others."

Lost Nick Lowe Documentary Goes Online
(Submitted) If you are even a casual fan of the 70s new wave, you must watch this! It's 1978. Nick Lowe has maintained a busy diary, producing sessions for Elvis Costello and The Pretenders, among many others, touring tirelessly with Rockpile etc... In December, he decamped to Eden Studios in London to record his second album 'Labour of Lust.' And a camera crew captured the whole thing!

The result is 'Born Fighters,' a fascinating look inside the sessions for not one but two classic albums (more on that in a minute). Screened only once on Granada Television in the UK, the film was thought lost to the bin of history, but some enterprising soul has uploaded it to Youtube and you can watch the whole thing here!

An unlikely approach was taken with these sessions. Lowe recorded 'Labour of Lust' in tandem with Dave Edmunds' album 'Repeat When Necessary,' with backing from their Rockpile bandmates Terry Williams (drums) and Billy Bremner (guitar, vocals) on both. An incredible cavalcade of friends and collaborators stopped by too: Graham Parker! Huey Lewis! Phil Lynott! Albert Lee! See if you can spot them all. more on this story
