Day in Rock Report for 07/04/2012

We have a shortened report today due to the holiday. Everyone have a rockin' 4th and we will see you tomorrow. Until then, here are today's stories:

Children of Bodom Singer Rushed To The Hospital
Children of Bodom singer Alexi Laiho was rushed to a hospital after suffering extreme stomach pain in Oslo, Norway on Tuesday night (July 3).

Tuesday night the band Facebook ran this update: It is with great regret that we are forced to cancel tonight's show in Oslo as well as tomorrow night's show in Malmφ.

Alexi was rushed to the Oslo hospital earlier this evening with extreme stomach pain. The doctors in the emergency unit checked him and while we are still waiting for a diagnosis, they made clear that he will not be able to perform within the next 48 hours.

We apologize to all our fans who have bought tickets to these shows – we will try to reschedule both Oslo and Malmφ at the earliest possibility. Keep your fingers crossed with us that Alexi will get well again soon!

Henkka, Roope, Janne, Jaska

Black Sabbath Open To Bill Ward Returning
(hennemusic) The Black Sabbath reunion has completed two of its three concerts this year, following the cancellation of the band's full tour due to guitarist Tony Iommi's health issues.

Earlier this year, original drummer Ward announced that he was unwilling to participate in the planned Sabbath reunion due to a contractual dispute. Now, in a new session with The Times Magazine, Sabbath vocalist Ozzy Osbourne says, "There was no row, there was no argument. The door ain't closed, whether we work something out up the road, I don't know."

"It's not a personal thing," added Iommi. "If he phoned us up tomorrow, which he hasn't, but if he did…" more on this story

Roth To Address Van Halen Super Bowl Rumor?
(hennemusic) There's more rumors surrounding Van Halen's possible involvement in Super Bowl 47 next year in New Orleans.

A buzz in the sports community started last month following comments by Eddie Van Halen regarding the group's touring plans. On the heels of canceling a full run of summer US tour dates, Eddie told USA Today that "a lot of the canceled dates were in cities we already played. So in November we'll hit Japan, and in the new year we'll possibly do something special, but I can't talk about it."

On Tuesday, the Van Halen News Desk reported that sources have told the fan website that David Lee Roth is going to publicly address the Super Bowl rumors within the next few days. more on this story

The Strokes Reportedly Working On New Album
(Gibson) If one of the members' dads is to be believed, The Strokes are working on a new album. The record would be a follow-up to 2010's Angles.

NME reports that Albert Hammond Sr. (father of Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr.) says the boys are back at work. "Albert says that the stuff they're doing is incredible," he said. "They're doing it themselves with their friend, engineer and producer. He just says 'Dad, it's incredible.'"

Asked what he expected the album to sound like, Hammond Sr. replied, "I don't think they'll go in a wildly different direction. Obviously the songs will be different, but I think The Strokes are The Strokes; they always will be The Strokes." more on this story

Dave Grohl Receiving Giant Hometown Honor
(Gibson) Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl will receive a pair of 900-pound drumsticks this weekend from his hometown of Warren, Ohio.

The enormous sticks (created from poplar logs) will be unveiled on Saturday, July 7 during a concert at the Warren Amphitheater, according to Rolling Stone.

The drumsticks will stay at the amphitheater until September, and then moved to the town's Dave Grohl Alley – which was dedicated back in 2009. Grohl was born in the town, but moved to Alexandria, Virginia, when the singer/guitarist/drummer was young. more on this story

Def Leppard May Re-Record More Of This Old Songs
(Gibson) Def Leppard are working through re-recording some of their back catalog so that their former label has no control over their sales.

As reported a couple of weeks ago, Def Leppard recently re-recorded and re-released new versions of "Pour Some Sugar on Me" and "Rock of Ages," saying that the reasons were due to an ongoing dispute with their ex-label.

Now frontman Joe Elliott has expanded in a new interview with Billboard.com. Elliottsays that the band refuses to deal with their former record label, Universal, "until we come up with some kind of arrangement" over compensation, especially for digital downloads.

Elliott says Def Leppard are also starting to think about recording brand new material, although it's possible that they may release one or two tracks at a time rather than an album. Joe also revealed that he is working on a second Down N Outz album and he hopes to release it in 2013. more on this story
