Aerosmith - Rockin' the Joint, Live at the Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas Review

by Zane Ewton

Aerosmith have enjoyed a long and successful career. That career was built on non-stop touring. Those four decades of touring has resulted in a wealth of live material out there for consumer consumption. So, just how many live versions of "Walk this Way" do you need?

With Rockin' the Joint: Live at the Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas you get one more version of "Walk this Way" and several other songs you have heard a thousand times. With only 12 tracks we are treated to a basic mixture of the overplayed and the rarely heard.

"Beyond Beautiful" from the forgettable Just Push Play leads off followed by a swinging version of "Same Old Song and Dance", the Toys in the Attic treat "No More No More" and one from all the way back to Get Your Wings, "Seasons of Wither".

Then the band starts hitting its staples, "Draw the Line", "Walk this Way" and "Train Kept a Rollin'". A cover of "Rattlesnake Shake" might please the Aerosmith purists but an overly schmaltzy "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" kills any fun this live record was building.

Maybe the band was trying to hit the Vegas party wagon with this release but it is really just another night out on the road with the hall of famers, the world's greatest traveling jukebox. At least when the Stones aren't on tour.
