 Mushroomhead - Volume 1 Review
by Kevin Wierzbicki

This first ever DVD from Mushroomhead is a D.I.Y. project; having been conceived, shot, edited, etc. by the band themselves with no outside help. The quality of the footage is not bad. The content, however, leaves much to be desired. Yes, their newest video, "Kill Tomorrow" is included. And the piece for "Eternal" is pretty hot. But mostly the film is a bunch of candid nonsense strung together. I didn't time it, but it seems that there is more off-stage stuff here than music. It would take a really big Shroomhead, all spliffed up, to tolerate this video more than once. Exciting footage includes various band members snoring in their racks, pissing on the bus floor, trashing the bus or hotel rooms, lighting fireworks and celebrating vocalist Jeffrey Nothing's 24th birthday by sticking their faces right into his birthday cake. Band members are shown without their masks and make-up, so you can finally see what Shmotz and Skinny and Stitch really look like, that is, if you can figure out who is who. It's almost like the band produced this thing as a souvenir for themselves. They can look back in 20 years and think, "Do you believe we did this s***?" Hopefully next time Mushroomhead will hire a pro crew to shoot a film that concentrates on their music.
