musicNEWS: Harrison, ZZ Top, Prince, Segar Lead Rock Hall Class of 2004

.
Beatle George leads the class of 2004 for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Beatle guitarist, who died in November of 2001, is finally being inducted as a solo artist (he was previously inducted as a member of the Beatles).

The irony is Harrison was the first Beatle to top the charts following the band’s breakup (1970’s All Things Must Pass), but not the first Beatle inducted a solo artist.

The other inductees for 2004 include Prince, Jackson Browne, Bob Seger, Traffic, ZZ Top and the Dells.

Those passed over include Black Sabbath, The Sex Pistols, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Stooges, Patti Smith, The "5" Royales and John Mellencamp.

Many question the credibility of the Rock Hall and this year is sure to add more fuel to the fire, because we all know that The Dells were so much more influential than the Sex Pistols, Black Sabbath and The Stooges.

Maybe they were afraid Ozzy would urinate on the podium during the induction ceremony and Johnny Rotten would be equally creative in showing his contempt of the music business version of a high school election?

The class of 2004 will be inducted during a very “Rock n Roll” black-tie ceremony at the Waldorf in New York City on March 15th.  (sarcasm off)

Artist become eligible for induction 25 years after their first commercial recording is released.
