Elvis Costello, The Roots and More for Music Festival

07/09/2008
.
(PR) Elvis Costello and The Imposters, The Roots, and Canada's own Broken Social Scene are among the artists that have been tapped for the inaugural Whistler Music Festival, set to take place July 19 and 20 in Whistler, BC.

The lineup reflects the eclectic taste of Whistler and Vancouver area residents and the caliber of entertainment expected by visitors to the world-class resort. Other artists secured for the two-day festival include Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Thievery Corporation, Medeski Martin & Wood, Bedouin Soundclash and Serena Ryder.

Whistler Music Festival is a two day event held at Whistler Blackcomb Tube Park at Base II on the side of Blackcomb Mountain. The first year festival will bring together a widely eclectic music line-up in a breath-taking location. This year's event will start on Saturday, July 19th from 11:00 am to 8:00pm and continue on Sunday, July 20th from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Produced by the Festival Network, LLC in conjunction with Tourism Whistler, Whistler-Blackcomb and the Resort Municipality of Whistler, the two-day event will take place at The Tube Park at Base II on Blackcomb Mountain, providing an intimate setting with spectacular views of the resort and village below. The one-of-a-kind event is part of Festival Network's series of new festivals being introduced worldwide that offer a diverse array of artists for the refined musical ear in a unique destination setting.

"We are proud to be able to offer Whistler, Vancouver and the surrounding communities a festival that they can truly call their own," commented Tom Shepard, CEO of Festival Network. "We plan on making this a memorable experience that we can bring back to the area for years to come."

Whistler is a year-round mountain resort destination located in the Coast Mountains 120 kilometres (75 miles) north of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and is site of the alpine, Nordic, and sliding events for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Whistler boasts extensive accommodation options totaling more than 10,000 bedrooms, offers a wide selection of restaurants, bars and spas, as well as activities ranging from world-renowned skiing and snowboarding, mountain biking and golf, to hiking, rock climbing, and water sports. Home to the continent's two greatest vertical-rise ski mountains – Whistler and Blackcomb – the resort offers 8,171 acres of skiable terrain and receives an average of 10.22 metres (33.5 feet) of snow annually. The Resort Municipality of Whistler is home to a diverse community of more than 10,000 permanent residents.
