Essential Foo Fighters Talk

04/17/2009
.
(PR) The Foo Fighters are the subject of a new series of limited edition books that will be released this spring and summer. Beginning with Foo Fighters: Essential Interviews 1995–1997 – which will be available for purchase on April 17 at Lulu.com– Rock Reader Books has planned three new titles that explore how Dave Grohl defied the odds to wear multiple rock hero hats.

Not only did Grohl play drums in the most successful rock trio of the 1990s, he also went on to form and front one of the most popular and most consistent bands in modern rock and roll. Documenting the early, exhilarating ascent of Dave Grohl's 'little band that could', Foo Fighters: Essential Interviews 1995–1997 looks back on the FF formation as a one-man project in the wake of Nirvana's untimely end.

The first book in the series revisits the legendary drummer turned guitarist/frontman as he recorded his eponymous debut album in October 1994. Released in mid-1995, Foo Fighters was an instant sensation, leading Grohl's band (which became permanent with the inclusion of former Sunny Day Real Estate members Nate Mendel (bass) and William Goldsmith (drums) plus Germs guitarist turned Nirvana sideman Pat Smear) to conquer the rock music world.

Touring for more than a year on the strength of hits like "This Is A Call" "I'll Stick Around" and "Big Me", the Foo Fighters were a welcome breath of fresh air. Sustained the group's keen sense of humor, which it exhibited in music videos and the honest and frequently hilarious media interactions found in this new book, they became a unique and lasting entity.

In October 1996, when the foursome joined forces with Pixies producer Gil Norton to record its sophomore album The Colour and the Shape. Although Goldsmith left the band before the disc's release on May 20, 1997, with Smear leaving later in the year, the group continued onward, becoming more successful than ever with the addition of drummer Taylor Hawkins and short-lived replacement guitarist Franz Stahl – who had played with Grohl in his pre-Nirvana band, Scream. With what may be its strongest singles ever -- "Monkey Wrench", "My Hero" and "Everlong" – in tow, the Foos toured behind the album until late 1998.

An explosive and memorable time for the group and its loyal followers, Foo Fighters: Essential Interviews 1995–1997, edited by music writer and historian John Luerssen, allows Grohl and his respective bandmates to tell the tale of their rise with a keen balance of levity and sincerity. Buy it here
