Hall and Bacon

(PR) Live From Daryl’s House celebrates its sweet 16th episode this month with Daryl Hall welcoming The Bacon Brothers.

Award-winning actor Kevin Bacon and his brother, film/TV music composer Michael Bacon, perform their trademark gritty rock with a touch of soul that traces back to their Philadelphia roots, the hometown they share with Daryl.

The new edition begins airing at www.livefromdarylshouse.com on Feb. 15, and will be featured through the rest of the month on the site along with previously archived episodes.

“Growing up in Philly, we used to play in a lot of the same places Daryl did,” says Michael, marveling over how the six degrees of separation between the Bacons and Hall has brought them together after all these years.

Long before Kevin was a Hollywood star of stage and screen, and Michael a go-to film and television composer, the brothers shared a love of music. Michael Bacon was signed to Columbia Records right out of school in the group "Good News" and found success as a songwriter in Nashville. “My earliest memory of music was what my brother was playing or the music he brought home,” Kevin Bacon recalls. The Bacon Brothers formed in 1994 and are soon to release their sixth album New Year's Day on March 24th. They have managed to juggle independent success as well as a touring rock band.

Kevin's film credits include JFK, A Few Good Men, Apollo 13, Hollow Man, Mystic River, Sleepers, Footloose, a Golden Globe nominated performance in The River Wild and most recently, Ron Howard's Oscar-nominated movie Frost/Nixon as well as the HBO film Taking Chance. Michael Bacon has won an Emmy for his score for The Kennedys, an ACE Award nomination for his score for The Man Who Loved Sharks, and the BMI Television Music Award for his music to LBJ. Shows he has scored have won numerous Emmy Awards and three Academy Awards (The Johnstown Flood, A Time For Justice, and King Gimp). His most recent projects include the PBS special "The Trials of J. Robert Oppenheimer," and the Sundance Film Boy Interrupted.

The pair join Daryl for a set book-ended by Rolling Stones classics and Bobby Womack tracks "It's All Over Now" and "The Last Time." They also perform several songs from The Bacon Brothers upcoming release including the title track "New Year's Day," the current single "Go My Way (the iPod Song)," "Tell Me What I Have To Do," and "Bunch Of Words," as well as a cover of "When The Morning Comes."

“‘Go My Way’ is sorta my attempt to write a Daryl Hall song,” laughs Kevin. “I ran into Daryl in a restaurant and he showed me a clip and I realized Live From Daryl’s House is a place where you can see musicians perform and interact with one another and how this magical thing comes together. It’s a behind-the-scenes look at how music is actually made. When we got the call to be on the show, I was thrilled.”

“I was a little intimidated,” admits Michael about playing with Daryl. “But it has just been so much fun. I was pinching myself the whole time. There’s a real excitement in being able to watch musicians learn to play a song for the first time. There was a lot of energy.”
