Singled Out: J.R. Richards (Dishwalla) Pt I

05/11/2009
.
(antiMusic) J.R. Richards made a name for himself fronting Dishwalla but this week he takes it a step further as he releases his new solo album, "A Beautiful End," exclusively at iTunes (everywhere else later this month). Normally we ask the artist to tell us about just one song but we've waiting a long time for this album, so to celebrate we asked J.R. to pick some of his favorite songs from the album and tell us a little bit about each one. We'll be bringing you different song stories throughout the month. Here is J.R. with today's song "ABE":

I had just moved to Florida and was just beginning to write songs for what was going to be my first solo record when one of my good friends Michael Godard called me. His daughter Page had been fighting cancer for quite a while and had just past away at 15. He asked if I could sing at her service......so I immediately jumped on a plane and headed back to California.

That day was a powerful one........ I was amazed at how much she had affected the world at such a young age and carried the stories I heard that day with me as I boarded the plane taking me back home. By the time I landed in Florida I had finished the lyrics to the song.
