Speaking to Ireland's Independent newspaper he said: "You've always had two parallel ways of doing things. You have Top of the Pops or The Old Grey Whistle Test on one hand, and New Faces [British TV talent show from the '70s and '80s] or Opportunity Knocks [British TV talent show from the '60s and '70s] on the other. "And now you've got Later... With Jools Holland where you get real bands who've grown up and written their music.
