The Wave Pictures Releasing Double Album for North American Debut

01/19/2010
.
Moshi Moshi Records is proud to announce the April 27th release of The Wave Pictures' Double CD, comprised of their two most recent albums Instant Coffee Baby (8/10 stars in NME) and If You Leave It Alone, the latter named by Spin as one of the "10 Best Albums You Might Have Missed in 2009."

It marks the North American debut for the talented and literary minded lo-fi pop trio from the quiet village of Wymeswold England. This spring and summer they plan to play dates in the United States, including a trip to SXSW 2010.

Likely a new name to many on this side of the Atlantic Ocean, The Wave Pictures' history and friendships within the broader music community runs long and deep. Forming in 1998, the Albums, Singles, EPs, Collaborations, or Compilations The Wave Pictures have released themselves or taken part in number more than 30.

Their work is respected and admired by peers who have come to know them, and they share close associations personally and artistically with the likes of Daniel Johnston, Jefferey Lewis, and John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats, whom they have even played the part of backing band and co-songwriters for, a relationship that resulted in a seven-inch single released by 4AD Records.

The Wave Pictures are David Tattersall (Vocals, Guitar), Franic Rozcki (Guitar), and Jonny "Huddersfield" Helm (Drums). The music on Instant Coffee Baby and comes off as poetic stream of conscious. The off the cuff nature has as much to do with the bands style as it does how the songs were recorded. Both albums were done primarily as live takes with minimal overdubs in the form of backing vocals and the odd brass or string instrument. The more recent of the two (If You Leave It Alone) was the product of a mere twelve hours in the studio. The resulting recordings are rife with cunning lyrics that are complimented by clever melodic guitar solos, all floating free from the weight of over-thought production. Though decidedly lo-fi the arrangements on many songs are complex, incorporating, trumpets, saxophone, violin, and multiple vocalists that deliver witty asides and sing along with Tattersall.
