Grunge Pioneers Gruntruck Revisited

06/29/2010
.
Seattle grunge pioneers Gruntruck's two albums are being reissued. Here is the announcement:

Gruntruck was one of the bands who defined the early Seattle grunge scene. The group recorded two spectacular albums – "Inside Yours" and "Push" - but afterwards faded into obscurity, overshadowed by the bigger and more successful grunge acts. This exclusive double reissue brings back both classic CDs in one package – an ultimate taste of the Sound of Seattle…

The band initially released their debut album "Inside Yours" through a local Seattle label eMpTy Records in 1990, and then returned a year later with a 2-track split album with Motorhoney, released through Musical Tragedies. This was enough to catch the attention of Roadrunner Records, who offered the group a multi-album contract. This way "Inside Yours" got re-released on January 14th, 1991, with two additional bonus tracks.

The album, produced by the legendary Jack Endino received a very warm reception on the local scene. Reviewers went on to compare Gruntruck's music to the early works of Soundgarden and Alice In Chains, pointing out the remarkable ability to join metal heaviness with post-punk and arena rock, spicing it up with a bit of 70's funk. Such songs as "Paint" and "So Long" became instant hits and the group managed to gather an impressive following. The band released their second album – "Push" – on February 2nd, 1992. The sophomore offering brought an even heavier material, with such brilliant tracks as "Tribe", "Gotta Believe" and "Crazy Love" (to which a video was made). Jack Endino once again proved his extraordinary skills, delivering excellent production.

Gruntruck are to this day considered by the underground scene as heroes of the grunge movement, worthy of being placed in the same row with Soundgarden and Alice in Chains. Both of their full-length albums are proof that this music couldn't have emerged anywhere else than Seattle. Gruntruck's albums are re-released now in a double digipak edition limited to 2000 copies. "Inside Yours" includes two bonus tracks. Digitally remastered using 24-Bit process, released on a golden disc. The release date is scheduled for 2nd August in Europe and 5th October in USA (via MVD).
