Red Pens Go Artsy

03/08/2010
.
After a busy winter performing shows throughout the U.S. and prepping for the release of their debut album Reasons via Grain Belt Records, the two-piece Red Pens are preparing to expand their boundaries.

The indie rockers will transition from playing dark bars to the wide performance space of the renowned Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. This June, Howard W. Hamilton III and Laura Bennett will proudly perform at the premier party of the highly anticipated exhibit entitled Everything by Guillermo Kuitca, one of Latin America's most honored painters.

Painter-turned-drummer Laura Bennett will also soon be honored for her artistic ability. Specializing in vibrancy and originality, Laura's paintings, along with her musical collaboration with Hamilton, will be featured on the new PBS series on the arts, "Minnesota Original" airing this spring.

The unlikely pair that is Red Pens came together when Howard W. Hamilton III, former member of The Busy Signals, took an interest in Laura Bennett's artwork. The result is a talented and passionate duo capable of filling a room with massive sound. With buzz building over their debut album, REASONS, and a live performance that is known for being energetic, aggressive, and always unpredictable, Red Pens has certainly proven to be attention-worthy. Culture Bully praises the band for creating an album that "transcends the local scene and positions them to be heard in the near future by a much bigger audience."

Red Pens' raw passion and energy have already gained the attention of many local and national audiences, such as Pitchfork, Minneapolis Public Radio, Metro Magazine, and more. With their upcoming shows (with more to be announced), Red Pens will continue to rock audiences throughout the nation.
