Hootie & the Blowfish Golf Channel Special

05/11/2010
.
(Submitted News) 16th Annual Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am Golf Tournament will be aired three times on the Golf Channel this month. The one-hour special was filmed at the Dye Club at Barefoot Resort & Golf and at the House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. on April 12.

Golf Channel's special entitled, "Monday After The Masters hosted by Hootie & The Blowfish" will debut in prime time on May 11 at 8:00 p.m. (EDT). Subsequent airings will take place on May 12 at 10:00 a.m. and May 22 at 2:00 a.m.

The show is hosted by Lauren Thompson and features tournament coverage with participants from the PGA TOUR, sports celebrities and entertainment stars. The special will showcase one of the biggest celebrity charity golf tournaments in the country, take a look behind the scenes of the event and include rare concert footage of the Monday night concert starring Hootie & The Blowfish and 12 other prominent musicians. The special also spotlights Myrtle Beach as the host city for Monday After The Masters.

The Hootie & The Blowfish Monday After The Masters golf tournament annually raises money for the Hootie & The Blowfish Foundation. That organization supports the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation and the educational needs of children in South Carolina and has raised close to $5 million over the last 16 years. The event was hosted by Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday, a non-profit organization that has been involved in all eight of the Monday After the Masters tournaments held on the Grand Strand.

"We appreciate Golf Channel's interest in telling the story about what happens during the Hootie & The Blowfish Monday After The Masters Celebrity Golf Tournament," said Bill Golden, president of Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday. "This event brings together so many stars who give of their time for a great cause, plus, it showcases why Myrtle Beach is known as the 'Golf Capital of the World.'"

This year, the six-person team led by PGA TOUR player DJ Trahan and country music singer Steve Azar captured the celebrity charity golf event with a score of 18-under par. There was also a five-way tie for second place including squads led by PGA Tour star Jim Furyk and Hootie and the Blowfish lead singer and country music star Darius Rucker, and Myrtle Beach resident and PGA star Dustin Johnson and Hootie drummer Jim "Soni" Sonefeld.

Other PGA TOUR players that attended this year's event included John Daly, Woody Austin, Rich Beem, and LPGA player and Grand Strand native Kristy McPherson. Other celebrities and athletes who participated in the event included country singers Jack Ingram and Colt Ford, "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, NASCAR drivers Kyle Petty and Michael Waltrip, and NFL Hall-of Fame quarterback Dan Marino.
