(Gibson) A recent Foo Fighters concert in New Zealand helped bring about tremors similar to those of a volcanic quake, according to Rolling Stone. The movements of 50,000 excited fans were registered by two seismic stations.Auckland GeoNet reported that the first quake happened during Tenacious D's opening set, but the biggest tremor came when the Foos took the stage.
"The cause of the shaking is most likely the weight of the 50,000 fans dancing, as 50,000 fans is equal to around 5,000 tonnes of mass moving (or moshing) on the ground for the duration of the concert," the scientists wrote. "This set up a nice harmonic vibration in the ground which was recorded in our nearby borehole seismometers." more on this story
