Johnny Reid Announces U.S. Debut

02/03/2011
.
(PR) Canadian hit maker Johnny Reid will release his first album in the U.S., entitled Introducing Johnny Reid, on May 3rd, 2011, on EMI/Manhattan Records.

"Take a pinch of Bruce Springsteen, a dash of Bob Seger and enough Rod Stewart to give the mix vocal gravel, and you start to get the vibe of this Scottish-born singer/songwriter," The New York Post raved about Reid in its 2011 music preview. "Introducing Johnny Reid's 11 songs are classic rock riffs laced with blue-collar roots…his voice brims with force and honesty."

"From a young age, I listened to all kinds of music," Reid says. "My mother was a big fan of Stax and Detroit soul. My father was a big fan of all music as long as it told a story. I have taken the instrumentation, performance, and energy of soul and annexed that with storytelling of things that really matter in this world: family, love, and friendship."

Reid, a native of Lanark, Scotland, who moved to Canada at age 13, has released five best-selling albums in Canada: 2005's gold Born to Roll, 2007's platinum Kicking Stones, 2009's double-platinum, Juno Award-winning Dance With Me, 2009's platinum Christmas, and 2010's double-platinum, A Place Called Love, as well as a triple-platinum live DVD. Many of the songs on A Place Called Love (which topped the Canadian album chart in September 2010) appear on Introducing Johnny Reid. The album's massive success drew the attention of EMI/Manhattan Records, which signed Reid in 2010.

Now the rest of the world will get the chance to discover Reid's powerful, raspy vocal delivery and deeply heartfelt songwriting. The album covers a broad range of feelings and experiences — from the joyous, horn-driven "Love Thing" to the quiet reflection of "A Place Called Love"— and delivers what Reid calls "a celebration of humanity" with a sound all its own.

In addition, Johnny has just been nominated for 4 Juno Awards including Album & Artist of The Year. The Juno Awards will take place March 27, 2011 in Toronto , ON .
