(Gibson) Dan Auerbach, singer/guitarist for The Black Keys, says that fans should expect a significant change on the band's forthcoming follow-up to 2010's Brothers. So what's the between last year's Grammy-winning LP and the as-yet-untitled new album? Speed. "It's the fastest we've ever played," Auerbach told Spin magazine. "The new album doesn't sound like Brothers. It doesn't have that open soul feel to it. It's way more driving and the tempos are really fast."
The guitarist said the Keys (who also include drummer Patrick Carney) were inspired by The Clash, The Cramps and old-time rockabilly on the new album. They've been working on the material at Auerbach's Nashville studio with producer Danger Mouse (a.k.a. Brian Burton), who has worked on the last two Black Keys records. "He understands all the different kinds of music we're into," Auerbach said about Burton. "He's got really great ideas about melody and song structure.
