The Law of Elvis Presley 101

10/03/2011
.
(Gibson) The King of Rock and Roll has become a king of legal study. As reported by the Associated Press, Legal Aid of East Tennessee is sponsoring a three-hour continuing legal education session titled, Elvis Law: The State and Federal Cases Dealing with the Late King of Rock 'n' Roll. Attorneys who attend the session, which will take place in Chattanooga, will receive three hours credit towards the 15 hours of continuing education they're required to accumulate each year.

"Elvis was fascinating," said Russell Fowler, who will lead the presentation. "He was not litigious, never sued anybody. He'd fire someone and then give them $50,000 to be nice. But when he died, litigation sprang from everywhere."

Attendees will be greeted by a 10-foot cardboard cutout figure of Presley. Approximately three-dozen attorneys from the East Tennessee area are expected to attend. Among the topics covered will be: ownership of Elvis's name, likeness and image; media access to his autopsy records; and disputes regarding what happened to concert tickets sold before Presley died. more on this story
