(Gibson) Since storming out of the gates two decades ago as punk revivalists, Green Day have gone on to become one of rock's most ambitious bands. Never resting on his laurels, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong continues to push the envelope with such opuses as 2005's American Idiot and 2009's 21st Century Breakdown. Always ready to speak his mind, Armstrong pulls no punches when it comes to addressing tough questions. In the following choice quotes, he talks about his favorite guitars, maintaining his youthful vigor, and what it means to be a punk artist. On getting older, as told to Popnography.com in 2010: "I loved my early twenties. I hated my late twenties. I was a drunk. I was trying to figure out how to be a father, a husband, but I still wanted to live my life like a crazy punk-rock star. You start noticing things about yourself. You have to change your health habits. But you don't want to change. In your twenties, change is hitting you over the head whether you like it or not. Right when I got to about 30 I was like, thank God that's over. But it gets complicated again." On getting naked during performances, as told to NPR.com in 2004: "I used to do it a lot right after Dookie came out. I was arrested for it in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I did it at Madison Square Garden, 'cause I didn't know if I was ever going to play Madison Square Garden again, so I said, well, there's one way to remember this occasion – to be the guy who was naked on stage at Madison Square Garden. And then it came down to a point where everywhere we played, the cops started showing up and started saying, 'If this guy gets naked on stage, he's going to be arrested immediately.'" more on this story
