Marillion will release their 17th studio album, Sounds That Can't Be Made, on September 24, 2012.
Produced by Marillion and Michael Hunter, the collection has been two years in the making, recorded at Marillion's home studio, the Racket Club, as well as Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios.
On Sounds That Can't Be Made, frontman Steve Hogarth admits "More than a singer, I feel like an interpreter expressing a journey." Listeners will indeed take a lyrical journey, from Hogarth's open-diary prose for "Montreal," to the long-lost 1992 John Helmer lyric to "Pour My Love," as well as "Gaza," the record's 17-minute epic centerpiece.
U.S. audiences recently got their first taste of Marillion's new sounds with the live debut of "Lucky Man" and "Power" on their 2012 North American Summer Tour. The long awaited appearance marked the band's first stateside gigs since the 2004 Marbles Tour.
Following the upcoming European leg of the Sounds That Can't Be Made tour, Marillion embark on their traditional, bi-annual Marillion Convention, scheduled for March 8-10, 2013 in Port Zelande, Holland. The three day event, attended by several thousand fans from all corners of the globe, allows fans to experience unique Marillion sets nightly, become immersed in Marillion culture and history with a Marillion Museum, a Marillion Pub Quiz, a charity 10K run and Signing Sessions, and even an opportunity to have tea and biscuits with a band member. Devoted Marillion fans began the pre-order campaign for Sounds That Can't Be Made earlier this year, uniquely allowing the band to independently write and record without label pressures. The over 12,000 fans and supporters willing to purchase the set in advance will be rewarded with a Special Edition of Sounds That Can't Be Made, with deluxe packaging and a bonus DVD including live tracks, over 2 hours of interviews and studio footage.
