Leigh Marble - Red Tornado Review

by Gary Schwind

.
The opening track "Lucky Bastards" is a tune that showcases some great slide guitar. The song alternates between a mellow mood and a lowdown blues groove until the end, which features some psychedelic slide guitar. The song is kind of all over the map, and it works brilliantly.

He follows that with "On Your Way" another song that is all over the musical map. It features some folky guitar, slide bass, and harmonica along with some piano that reminds me a lot of a Los Angeles band called Randy and the Bloody Lovelies.

Marble continues his musical exploration in "Fast & Loose," where he incorporates some keyboards that sound more typical of the 60s than the early 21st century.

Overall, Marble combines great, complex melodies with intelligent lyrics to make songs that are easy to listen to. This is a collection of eleven really well-crafted songs. Leigh Marble covers a lot of musical ground from folk to mellow indie ("Get Yours") and blues. I wouldn't know what to file this CD under, but then I'm kind of partial to artists that are difficult to classify. I'll say this. If there were a section at your local music shop for intelligent, carefully crafted songs, you would find this CD there.

Note: The cd was supposed to be released this week but we could not find a buy link for it on the label site or on the artist site. So keep checking - ed
