Gorevette - Lustfully Yours

by Kevin Wierzbicki

What happens when Nikki Corvette pulls her fine-tuned hotrod up next to Amy Gore's equally bitchin' ride on a dimly-lit Detroit side street? The two sassy rock kittens, front women for Nikki and the Corvettes and the Gore Gore Girls respectively, lay their stiletto heels into the gas pedal, that's what. And not surprisingly the scent left in their wake is not a noxious odor of burnt rubber and gasoline; it's the alluring aroma of sex. The two have teamed-up in the cleverly-named Gorevette to chase guys ("Nothing's Gonna Stop Me") and chase guys ("Lustfully Yours") and then, uh, chase guys ("Baby Let's Rock".) The girls mostly tap into a Runaways/Donnas mash-up on this seven-song debut E.P., wildly tossing around slashing guitar riffs (some by Radio Birdman guitarist Deniz Tek) and garage-rock rhythms like they're empty PBR cans or spent boyfriends. Gorevette rarely take their eyes off their next conquest but Nikki's vocals manage to make the pursuit sound downright innocent on the early '60s-style pop arrangement of "Honey Don't You Know?" Gorevette is clearly cruising for pleasure here but the girls give as good as they get; Lustfully Yours leaves the listener satisfied yet hot for more.
