The performance captured on this film from March 2010 is musically flawless but it does not hold the lightning-in-a-bottle excitement created by last fall's well-received comeback album Red Velvet Car. The main culprit is probably a poor sequencing of the set as it seesaws back and forth between high-energy rockers and more sedate tunes; for example from the rocking "Barracuda" to the poppy "Never" and from the Led Zeppelin-influenced heaviness of "Love Alive" to the sublimely haunting "Mistral Wind." Another momentum killer is the fact that four songs from Red Velvet Car are previewed here a good six months before the record came out and while this is a cool treat for the audience to get an early taste, clearly they don't know what to expect for about a third of the set. There's also a bit of a country turn as friend of band Alison Krauss comes onstage to take lead vocals on "These Dreams" then stay to play fiddle on "Safronia's Mark" from Red Velvet Car and then sing her own cut "Your Long Journey." The show closes with "Alone" and "Crazy on You" and the girls come back for an encore of the touching "Sand" and "Magic Man." Again, despite terrific performances, this show just doesn't seem to flow very well. No doubt that the same show recorded today, in the wake of a Top 10 album, would be a lot more satisfying.
