This Long Island-based quintet has recently been on the road previewing Evil is Crowned as the opening act for DevilDriver while simultaneously garnering airplay on Sirius XM's Liquid Metal channel and all the hoopla has placed the album on the Top 10 charts at FMQB and CMJ. Now the album has just dropped and it'll be up to the band's ever-growing fan base to determine how far Evil is Crowned goes. The album is a hybrid of powerful thrash sounds and classic metal influences; the title cut has a break that gives a nod to Black Sabbath while "Gone Tomorrow" pays homage to Judas Priest and "Social Anxiety" drips with Motorhead-style metallic grease. The display of all those influences is normal for a band not yet too far removed from the bar band circuit and there's no bastardization about the way the tributes are incorporated into the overall sound; Misery has good chops and ideas and this solid sophomore effort makes them one to watch.
