Griffin House Sets June Album Release, Free Single Download Now
The Learner, the new album from renowned singer-songwriter Griffin House, will be released June 22 on Evening Records. This is the fifth full-length recording from House, who has been widely heralded by critics and fans alike.

2010 has already proven a breakout year for House, who is currently featured in an 11-page spread in the April issue of Esquire magazine. For the piece, Esquire invited five of their favorite musicians—Dierks Bentley, Charlie Mars, Bob Schneider, Ben Kweller and Griffin House—to take part in a songwriting challenge and two-day fashion shoot with world-famous photographer Danny Clinch in Clarksdale, Mississippi. More information regarding the profile is available here: esquire.com/miss.

Recorded primarily at Sound Emporium studios in Nashville, The Learner continues House's collaboration with the producer team of Justin Loucks and Ian Fitchuk (Mindy Smith, Landon Pigg), with whom he worked with on his 2004 release Lost and Found. Also featured on the record is world-renowned singer Alison Krauss, providing vocal harmonies on "River City Lights" and Dan Wilson (Semisonic) who produced and co-wrote "If You Want To." Of the finished album, House comments, "I think my feelings are best summed up with a line from the record itself—'I don't want to rule the world. I don't need to try to be a king. I just want to live my life with you, and give you everything.' - Grab the first single here

How Chris Pureka Learned To See In The Dark
Chris Pureka is a breath of fresh air in an age of fleeting success and temporary notions. She is an artist of substance, armed with a sharp eye for oft-missed details and an emotional intelligence that can switch from withering to compelling with a subtle inflection. On her third release, How I Learned To See In The Dark set to hit via Sad Rabbit Music /ADA on April 13, Pureka expands on her distinct and beautiful melodies exploring broader musical soundscapes all the while maintaining the stunning vocals and distinct guitar work she is known for.

With her 2004 debut LP, Driving North, Pureka started a career as a touring troubadour and began building an impressive fan base from the ground up: a cult following that started in her native New England and steadily grew to a national level. Fans and critics alike were drawn to the signature voice that somehow makes heartbreak sound desirable and her acute attention to lyrical detail, while others lauded her aptitude for crafting guitar parts that speak for themselves. The Boston Globe raved that "[she] is such a gifted guitar player and singer that you have to listen to each song twice, once for her guitar playing and again for her passionate lyrics about love, loss and hope." With her 2006 follow-up, Dryland, Pureka further expanded on the emotional topography she charted earlier in her career by continuing to tour extensively playing 200+ shows a year and gathering supporters city by city, show by show and fan by fan. This year Chris will take touring to the next level by adding a full backing band to her incredible live show.

While maintaining the unique alchemy of longing, loss and hope this virtuoso sets to music, there is a sonic adventurism on How I Learned to See in the Dark that marks a new stage in Pureka's musical evolution. This is aided by Pureka's choice of co-producer and longtime friend, Merrill Garbus (4Ad's tUnE-YaRds). In addition to enjoying the comfort that comes with working with someone you've known since middle school, Garbus brought to the table her signature quirky recording techniques and alternative instrumentation, helping Pureka shift her sound into as-yet uncharted territory. This record boasts a newfound edginess, coupled with a more abstract sound and a musical depth and complexity that shines through each track, all the while maintaining the space and creative instrumentation Pureka is known for. - more on this story

Sebastian Blanck To Deliver Alibi Coast In June
Rare Book Room Records is extremely proud to announce the June 22, 2010 release of Alibi Coast, the debut LP by New York City singer, songwriter and accomplished painter Sebastian Blanck. While Sebastian was an early member of Black Dice (more than ten years ago!), Alibi Coast more resembles the timeless, poeticized folk-pop of Simon & Garfunkel, and in fact has far more in common with his paintings, brilliantly layered works that capture evocative scenes in motion.

Alibi Coast, which puts Sebastian's gentle guitar work and gorgeous vocals in the spotlight (and which also features contributions from Caroline Polachek of Chairlift, Lia Ices, Becky Stark of Lavender Diamond and Olivia Mori), traces not one narrative arc but several, centering on the events of 2007, when Sebastian lost his brother Toby in a drowning accident. The songs on Alibi Coast came to life with the help of co-producer Jorge Elbrecht (of Violens and Lansing-Dreiden) and were completed with Nicolas Vernhes at the Rare Book Room Studio in 2009 and 2010.

The album, whose cover features a painting by Sebastian's wife, Isca Greenfield-Sanders (daughter of the photographer Timothy Greenfield-Sanders), marks the emergence of a striking new talent on the music scene — just one listen and we're sure you'll agree. - more on this story

The Fab Faux Announce Benefit Concert for School Destroyed by Fire
The Fab Faux have confirmed an April 11th Benefit Concert for West Babylon's South Bay Elementary School. In February, the school was destroyed by a fire, and will now need to be rebuilt from the ground up.

Over 300 displaced students have been relocated to the town's church, where they will continue their studies. The blaze was so intense that 16 fire departments joined efforts to control it.

West Babylon is the hometown of Fab Faux drummer Rich Pagano, who describes efforts to organize the local benefit in the days following the devastating fire: "School Superintendent Anthony Cacciola reached out to us since he was aware of my hometown connection to West Babylon and he happens to be a Fab Faux fan. He stressed that the school had insurance but that it did not cover all of the materials. The band was eager to help. I also recruited my childhood rock radio station, WBAB (based in West Babylon) to get the word out and Will Lee brought in the D' Addario/Evans company (also Long Island-based) to donate musical instrument accessories."

Sara Jackson-Holman Debut Album Drawing Comparisons to Feist, Adele, and Norah Jones
On May 25, 2010, Portland, Oregon based indie-label Expunged Records (home to Blind Pilot) will release the debut full-length from Bend, Oregon-based, 21-year-old pianist/singer Sara Jackson-Holman entitled "When You Dream"

An 11-track collection of melodic, sultry, thought-provoking, and imagery-drenched tracks already garnering comparisons to Feist, Adele, and Norah Jones, "When You Dream" is the result of a classically-trained musician making music for herself and a chance run-in with a record label that led to a studio album.

That chance run-in found Expunged Records' president Anthony McNamer clicking on Jackson-Holman's Myspace page after she left a comment on Blind Pilot's page, following a live performance she had seen. - more on this story

Chosen Few Deliver Sounds From The Fewture
In preparation for the release of their upcoming album, New World Symphony, Chosen Few is proud to announce the release of their newest project, Sounds From The Fewture. Part of the legendary Hiero family, Chosen Few seeks to enlighten and inspire with their vibrant style and underlying message - you have the power to choose what music you listen to.

Although structured as a mixtape, the release, mixed by DJ Icewater of The Pharcyde, functions as a compilation and as Unjust explains, "It serves as a history lesson in an effort to familiarize hip-hop fans with who Chosen Few is, where they have been and what they have done, and get people ready for the upcoming album." Sounds From The Fewture is not a grouping of freestyles over beats from previously released songs, but instead features completed tracks that were previously unreleased, released on other albums or put together specifically for this project.

The compilation also features a wealth of guest appearances and productions, all chosen for their dynamic talents, including Pep Love, Jern Eye, Khai Sharref, Donte of MOOD, Hi-Tek, DJ Dez, J-Rawls, and more.
