Velvet Revolver To Change Direction With New Singer
Slash tells Metal Hammer Germany that Velvet Revolver is heading into a different musical direction now that they don't have to conform to Scott Weiland's vocal style.

"When Scott was out of the band and we came back to L.A. we just started doing some writing and we just went back to the way we normally would write, which is pretty heavy anyway." He continues, "We sort of altered things a little bit to fit Scott, but now, this, we're gonna do stuff our way and then try and find someone who can sing it the way that it should be sung."

When asked if Myles Kennedy from Alter Bridge who is heading up his solo touring band, was going to join Velvet Revolver, Slash said that he had been asked before but had other commitments.

Finally, unlike his heap of praise for Axl and Guns N' Roses' "Chinese Democracy," when asked if he had heard the new Stone Temple Pilots album, he said that he had only heard the single on the radio. When asked if he liked it he said, "sounds like, yeah, it's ok". - Watch the interview here

Early Unreleased KISS Country Song Posted Online
The Metal Den has unearthed what they believe is a never before released or circulated demo entitled "Mistake" by KISS.

The song is a straight up country and western ballad, featuring acoustic guitars, bottleneck slides and an overall sound more along the lines of Wicked Lester than even an acoustic gem like "Hard Luck Woman".

It is believed this rare track was recorded at the same sessions as "Rock And Roll All Nite" in 1975. As it stands it is the earliest demo for an unreleased KISS song known to exist! - Listen here

Rock Classics Dominate Top 10 Guitar Outros List
Russell Hall at Gibson.com has put together his list of the top 10 Great guitar outros. Here is his intro and the top 3 picks: A great guitar outro can serve as the sonic equivalent of an exclamation point, something to drive home the power of a song in an emphatic way. Some outros exude subtlety and ambiance, while others bite and sting like an angry hornet. Below are 10 of the very best.

"Layla" – Derek And The Dominos The soaring blues anguish that drives this masterpiece finds release in the song's majestic coda. Recorded three weeks after the main track was put down, the outro finds Duane Allman delivering poignant slide work, with Eric Clapton's acoustic guitar and drummer Jim Gordon's piano composition riding on top. The "crying bird" sound at the end of the track, a great touch by Allman, is said to have been done as a tribute to jazz great Charlie "Bird" Parker.

"Hotel California" – The Eagles Joe Walsh often gets credit, but actually it was Don Felder who came up with the main parts for the outro that powers this classic. "[I was] tinkering around with an acoustic 12-string when those 'Hotel California' chords just oozed out," Felder once told Guitar World. "I added some electric guitars, [and] mixed down to mono, ping-ponging back and forth on a little four-track. I wound up with a cassette that had virtually the entire arrangement that appeared on the record, verbatim, with the exception of a few Joe Walsh licks on the end." Felder's Les Paul never sounded better.

"Free Bird" – Lynyrd Skynyrd Allen Collins fashioned his lead on a Gibson Explorer for this sensational outro, while Gary Rossington handled rhythm duties on a Les Paul and added slide fills with an SG. The band's record company tried to persuade Skynyrd not to include the song on their debut album, insisting the track was too long. Fortunately, the group held its ground. The extended live version that appears on the 1976 album, One More From the Road, sealed the song's classic status. - Did you favorite song make the list? Find out here

New Santana Album Details Including Tracklist and Vocalists
Can you imagine Linkin Park's Chester Bennington teaming up with Ray Manzarek and Carlos Santana to record The Doors classic "Riders on the Storm"? You won't have to as it will be just one of the songs and musical matchups on Carlos Santana's new album "Guitar Heaven: The Greatest Guitar Classics Of All Time," which hits stores on September 21st.

Working from their collective encyclopedic knowledge of rock, Carlos Santana devised a list of guitar-centric titles – and then invited a Who's Who of guest vocalists to perform on every track. Singers range from Chris Cornell (on Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love"), Pat Monahan (on Van Halen's "Dance the Night Away"), Chester Bennington and Ray Manzarek (on The Doors' "Riders on the Storm"), Rob Thomas (on Cream's "Sunshine Of Your Love), Scott Weiland (on the Rolling Stones' "Can't You Hear Me Knockin'"), Chris Daughtry (on Def Leppard's "Photograph"), Gavin Rossdale (on T. Rex's "Bang A Gong") to rapper Nas (on AC/DC's "Back In Black"), veteran Joe Cocker (on Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing"), and more.

A very special dedication to George Harrison comes together on GUITAR HEAVEN…, with "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," featuring singer india.arie and master cellist Yo-Yo Ma. "Listening to the song," Olivia Harrison told Carlos, "it made me jump for joy and cry at the same time."

Singled Out: Scarlet Grey's The Sky and I (Featuring Davey Havok of AFI)
Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Ben Grey of Scarlet Grey tells us about "The Sky and I" (featuring Davey Havok of AFI) from their new album "Fancy Blood". We now turn it over to Ben for the story:

This is a song that came together very quickly for us and I believe we actually already had plans to go into the studio before we even started writing it. When we decided to make this record, we knew we were working with an extremely tight budget, so we booked one day at Paramount Studios to track the drums, bass and rhythm guitars for five songs. The only way to do this is to track live, which is borderline insanity in 2010… Needless to say, we were practicing heavily to make sure it was unbelievably tight... I mean not only did we want the album to come out great but we certainly did not want to embarrass ourselves in front of world class engineers, you know what I mean? So while we were rehearsing the first five songs off of "Fancy Blood," Pete just started playing the bass progression that would eventually turn into "The Sky and I." He's done that quite a few times actually, where he'll just sort of throw something together without even thinking… "Quiet Kid" and "No Boys in the Ballroom" have similar origins.

What followed was one of those 'lightning in a bottle' type situations for us, where the first thing everybody instinctually played was eerily close to what was finally recorded. The song was on its feet within an hour and then we decided that it just had to be on the album. We knew it could be something special. That night, I went home and finished the melody and lyrics... I couldn't go to sleep without having it completed, I was so into it. The thing that was so cool about this song's process, was that we never over-thought any of it. It was one of the most natural, organic evolutions of a song that I've ever been involved with. We wrote it, arranged it, recorded and mixed it all ourselves within 2 weeks... And then to have Davey Havok be a part of it made it all the more surreal.

I had written the part with him in mind never, really entertaining the idea that he might be into actually doing it. I mean we're close friends, but I always get weird about stuff like that. We had maybe 3 days left of recording before our mixing date at Paramount... (yes we mixed the record in 16 hours and yes it was insane)... and Davey was in town to work on the new Blaqk Audio record with our drummer Keith, at his studio. So after one of the sessions, Dave told us that he wanted to come out to the Scarlet Grey show that night at The Roxy... So we decided to play "The Sky and I" live so that he could hear it and see if it was something he would be into doing. He really liked it... What an incredible relief.

So the next day, at 11 in the morning we finished tracking "The Sky and I." Days don't really get better than this. I describe "Fancy Blood" this way sometimes, but more aptly, it is this song that I should describe as a love letter to the underground. Without delving too far into it, this song is very much about our band and very much about what Scarlet Grey and our city have been through. So to have Davey Havok, a former ambassador to the underground singing about Scarlet Grey's love affair and bittersweet departure with the Los Angeles underground, really meant the world to me and ushered the song to a place we could never have taken it alone. I feel really privileged to have had this opportunity to make this song, this way. I'll never forget it.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album

Singled Out: Big Daddy Love's Heed the Call
Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Daniel Smith from Americana Rockers Big Daddy Love tells us about "Heed the Call" from their new album "To The Mountain". We now turn it over to Daniel for the story:

"Heed the Call" This song was inspired by the Chris McCandless story, known as "Into the Wild". I was very moved and inspired when I first encountered this tale of a young man who was unafraid to go after what he wanted. I was also inspired by what he sought. Chris McCandless would not have faired well in urban America in my opinion. Though I only know him through the presentation of his history, I can't help but feel like I did or at least could have known him. Regardless, I felt a connection to him and his ideals.

In the first verse the line, Time is just a wasted thought, a forgotten memory, peace is my battle lost, like a bird I have spread my wings, means that in his search for truth and purity, he had no sense of time and the battle lost was that he gave up on the path laid before by his parents and blazed his own trail.

In the last verse, as in the last days of McCandless' life, the realization that we are social creatures and experiences are meant to be shared brings the idealism back to earth. Some people may look at Chris McCandless in disgust or claim he had a death wish or go unaffected by what he did, but to me the point of the story is that he knew what he wanted and he went after, his own way. To hell with the rest.

Chorus:
Don't you bury me in that ground.
Just take what's left of me and toss it to the wind.
That willow tree can weep there all alone.
Mark my grave with a memory in your heart.
Cause I'm FREE

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!

Issa is Coming
ISSA (Isabell Oversveen) has set the release of her debut album "Sign of Angels" on September 14th in Europe and October 10th in the USA via Frontiers Records.

Sometimes real discoveries in music shake up the rock world from out of nowhere. In 2008 a new band from Sweden called Work of Art took the Melodic Rock scene by storm with a stunning debut album. In the end of 2009 W.E.T., another alliance between Swedish musicians with singer Jeff Scott Soto was met with the highest enthusiasm from the Melodic Rock crowd, and just a few months ago, the return of Treat with "Coup De Grace", marked another milestone release in the genre. Now, once again from Scandinavia, Issa, an exceptionally gifted singer from Norway takes her chance with "Sign of Angels", her debut album, an album that many of the ones "in the know" have defined as a "bomb"!

Helped by producer Ronny Milianowicz (Saint Deamon) and some killer musicians such as Peter Huss on guitar, Uli Kusch (ex Masterplan, Helloween) on drums, Nobby Noberg on bass and Tim Larsson (Nick Lachey) on keyboards, Issa has managed to create a superb album which offers soaring and instantly likeable hook lines, solid guitar riffs and a crisp sound. Described as Brother Firetribe meets Treat with tons of melodies, class and attitude, "Sign of Angels" features song writing contributions from Joacim Cans (Hammerfall), Thomas Vickstrom (Candlemass), Daniel Flores (TMOMS), Soren Kronkvist (Crash the System) and many more.

Providing a true to life guitar playing experience and using studio masters, Six-String goes beyond rhythm games to deliver the most dynamic, lifelike guitar-playing experience. Gamers can download hours of addicting game play both in the free version with 3 bundled songs and a premium version, which includes 17 songs with purchase.

Up to 50 songs, including top Six-String artists such as Papa Roach, Lady Gaga, Marilyn Manson, 3 Doors Down, and Maroon 5 are available through the game and/or for purchase from the in-app store for only 99 cents per track.

Six-String app recreates the experience of playing the guitar like never before via a unique game that combines an accurate strumming and picking game interface with tracks culled from the real studio masters for maximum authenticity and sound quality. Six-String's virtual guitar interface lets players pluck, strum and change chords along with the master recording and, with the true sound of discord, spares no mercy when a wrong string is strum. No experience is required; anyone can now play the guitar like a pro along with their favorite songs, instantly! - more on this story
