The Specials Reunite for New Album
(Gibson) English ska legends The Specials are returning to the studio with their original lineup for the first time in 30 years. The band, who made rude boy culture fashionable in the late '70s, have been playing live shows since reforming in 2008. After playing the same old songs on stage for two years, The Specials are ready to record something new.

Singer Terry Hall told BBC6, "We think going forward is a healthy thing to do. We've discussed things that will take us on a slightly different route. It will be different to what we've done, just because it has to be really, because we can't keep doing the same set."

The Specials were formed in 1977 and, two years later, hit the top of the U.K. charts with the single "Too Much Too Young." Combining '60s rude boy style and ska-punk beats, the band were a unique force to be reckoned with on the U.K. music scene. Within three years, they charted seven songs in the Top 10. In 1981, though, the group fell apart with three key members leaving to form Fun Boy Three. Though various incarnations have carried on since that time, it wasn't until 2008 that the original members have played together. - more on this story

Pepper Keenan and Philip Anselmo Down With Diary of a Mad Band
Down's 3 disc (2 CD/1 DVD) release, Diary of a Mad Band, will hit stores on October 5th, 2010. Two key members of the band offer these comments on the release:

Guitarist Pepper Keenan affirms, "The DVD is an in-depth look at what five boys from the wrong side of the tracks can achieve when motivated by the will to escape hard times, fueled by an unexplainable quest to destroy live and be embraced by the love of fans whom we had not had the pleasure of meeting yet. This is how it's supposed to be: rock solid."

Vocalist Philip Anselmo adds, "This is a semi-ugly glimpse into what would end up the perfect building blocks to a much more prosperous future! Raw, distorted, unpredictable, and with a freshly mended spine in tow, these shows were desperately important to us as a cohesive unit. Take this trip through the old days with us at your own risk, and don't forget to bring some aspirin!"

Singled Out: Intercept's Rest of My Days
Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Christian Knudsen from Intercept tells us about "Rest of My Days" from their brand new album "Symphony for Somebody Else," which was released this week. We now turn it over to Christian for the story:

I've always been fascinated with the "grass is always greener" concept. No matter what successes a person has and how they are seen by their peers, that person will still have their own lives and dreams and daily frustrations to keep them looking for the next horizon. It's human nature; when you overcome one obstacle, you immediately want more. Very few things can seem amazing, unattainable and worthy of constant appreciation when they are part of your daily life.

The first single from our new album, "Symphony for Somebody Else" is all about that. In "Rest of My Days," the speaker in the song is settled into life with his girlfriend or wife, or whatever, and to some degree the he believes that the relationship itself is amazing, and the most important part of life. But the grass is always greener – maybe he could be on tour and having adventures in the world. I know that so many people would agree that they are very happy where they are, but also can't help but think: what if I was required to do a show in China tomorrow as part of my job? What would that feel like? Wouldn't that be cool? Wouldn't this occasional 'bored' feeling go away?

"Rest of My Days" imagines both scenarios – staying home and dreaming (and raising an imaginary periscope to look into what might have been) –and being on the road.

The lyrics leave something for the listener to identify. Is the speaker saying that being on the road is the priority? Or is it the relationship? Or could they both hold the same weight? Each scenario is explored in the first two verses – in the first, the speaker is dreaming of being on tour and wondering why he is at home doing nothing. In the second, the speaker is on tour and sick of being tied to the calendar and appointments and feeling deeply removed from his love at home. But what wins? That's up to each individual listener to determine. Ultimately, leaving it up in the air like that is the true examination of "The Grass is Always Greener" – no matter which scenario plays out, the speaker will want to be in the other place. Whichever conclusion the listener hears in the bridge and chorus is their own personal, true opinion of what they want in their own life.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself with a free download and learn more about the album - right here!

The Frames 20th Anniversary Tour
The Frames have announced a handful of North American live dates to celebrate their twentieth anniversary.

The Frames were last seen and heard in 2006 supporting their sixth full length, The Cost (ANTI). At that time, as the fates would have it, there was an unexpected turn of events when Glen's "side project", The Swell Season with fellow Academy Award winner Marketa Irglova, launched them into mythical status thru their work in the movie, Once.

The time since The Cost has been well spent and with the success of The Swell Season there is a new and invigorated fan base, which have yet to witness The Frames live show. And as anyone who has attended a gig will attest, The Frames shows are not to be missed. The timing seems right for the self admitted "folk rocker" (Hansard) to get back in touch with the second half of that equation. - more on this story

U.S. Christmas Launch Mini Tour Ahead of Next Week's Album Release
U.S. Christmas will embark on a mini tour tomorrow with fellow NC doom trio Black Skies ahead of the September 20th release of their new album, Run Thick In The Night.

Founded in Marion, North Carolina in the summer of 2002, the band played rough biker bars, art spaces, and house shows all over the southeast dirt circuit for years, self-releasing albums in rough CDR format. Scott Kelly of Neurosis heard the band's third record, Salt The Wound (released in Russia by the label RAIG) through his show on Combat Music Radio/KMBT, which inevitably lead to the release of the band's fourth album Eat The Low Dogs on Neurot Recordings.

USX now approaches a decade of playing, recording, and evolving, and continues to blur the boundaries of heavy music with earsplitting rock that is by turns jangly, crushing, dark and truly eclectic. Said Hall of the upcoming release: "This record followed some difficult times for many of us, and I think you can hear that in RTITN. It is not as lyrically dark as ETLD, however it is a continuation of those elements. Run Thick In The Night is rooted in something outside of us, but is driven by a clear and persistent vision. It was necessary for USX to make this album, and it was something I absolutely had to do. I can't really explain it any better than to simply say that it is a very personal, spiritual album for me. ...When I hear the music now I see distinct real places that have, over time, woven into my imagination and become surreal. - more on this story

Beatles Treasures Unearthed
(Gibson) Patti Daley's scrapbook is a little more colorful than most. In addition to the typical photos and wedding announcements one might expect, Patti's albums also feature candid personal pictures of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who and other rock legends. As the longtime girlfriend of session guitarist Jesse Ed Davis (John Lennon, George Harrison, Taj Mahal, Gene Clark), Patti was in the inner circle of Southern California rock royalty in the early '70s. At a time when British superstars like John Lennon, Ringo Starr and Keith Moon were immigrating to the warm California sun, that circle was dazzling.

Among the items in her collection are rare photos of Paul McCartney playing piano at Lennon's beach house during their first post-breakup meeting, hand-written lyrics sheets from Lennon's Walls and Bridges sessions (including the #1 hit, "Whatever Gets You Thru the Night") and a copy of an angry letter Lennon wrote to Capitol Records after the release of The Beatles' Rock 'n' Roll Music compilation, in which he says the cover of the new album "looks like a Monkees reject" and suggests, instead, photos by Astrid Kircher or Jόrgen Vollmer (who were friends of the band during the Hamburg days).

"I just kept my Polaroid camera on me all the time in my purse," Daley told NBC. "And when I'd see a good shot, I'd take them candidly." As for the lyrics sheets, Daley said mischievously, "I came to acquire those after sessions. John would come in and put the lyrics on a podium.
