Day in Rock Report for 06/15/2011
Rukus Magazine asked former Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler "What was the turning point for you to finally get sober and join Celebrity Rehab?" He responded with this revelation: "I didn't die. I tried killing myself, and you know, you'd think it's easy to do, but let me tell you: it's not easy. I could tell you there are two separate times I tried killing myself and both times I took 100 Valium, drank the big bottle of Jägermeister and shot up ¾ of a gram of heroin. The only thing that happened to me is that I had the best night sleep of my life. So, I just got tired of being sick and tired and feeling down. Unfortunately, you don't realize this until you're getting sober but the reason why you're depressed all the time is it's the drugs that are depressing you. Cocaine and heroin are depressants; Valium is a depressant; alcohol and cigarettes are a depressant." Read the full interview here

(RockAAA) It's a sign of the times. Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee has accepted the concept that singles are outselling albums, and has lost his interest in the art of making an album.
"As far as new music goes, and people say it all the time, 'When are you guys gonna make a new record, dude?' It's like, 'Really, why?' No one buys them anyway anymore. And I'm not sure what the reason is," Lee tells Noisecreep.
"To tell you the truth, I think the days of making a record, for me personally, are over. After this last Methods [Of Mayhem] record I did, I'll never make another full record, I think. It's a waste of time, 'cause people can only ingest a song at a time, so why not make bitching songs at a time and release them? If you want to call them singles, great, whatever; or at its maximum, an EP, four songs, done, boom. I just really feel like the days of the entire record are long gone." more on this story

(hennemusic) The case of Axl Rose v. Irving Azoff has been settled. So has the case of Irving Azoff v. Axl Rose. The Beverly Hills Courier reports lawsuits between the Guns N' Roses frontman and his former manager concerning commissions and concert touring have been resolved, attorneys for both sides told a judge yesterday.
"They were settled to the mutual satisfaction of the parties," said attorney Howard King on behalf of Azoff. The resolutions were announced on the day Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Rita Miller had scheduled trial of the two cases between the rocker and Azoff.
No terms were divulged. But after a preliminary accord was reached, lawyers for Rose filed papers stating that the final accord would involve "a comprehensive touring agreement in which Guns 'N Roses would perform at various...venues." more on this story

(hennemusic) The Shannon Tweed/Gene Simmons battle is escalating. Following a Monday morning appearance on The Today Show, where Tweed admitted the couple's relationship "has pretty much unraveled," things got even nastier during an interview on a talk show. Tweed told Gene to "f**k off" and walked off the set during the live broadcast.
The couple are making the rounds to promote their alleged reality series, but it's Gene's family jewels that are taking a very public beating. Following a clip from the upcoming new season, Shannon was pretty blunt about how she feels.
"He's a pig and I don't like it," said Tweed. "And I'm done. I'm f**king…" as her voice trailed off. Later, she continued, "I'm tired. I'm tired of his life," referring to Gene's regular business meetings that often involve female companionship, which the KISS bassist shrugs off as somehow being necessary to his success. more on this story

(Gibson) Lightning-quick axeman Marty Friedman recently sold all of his prized Megadeth-era guitars to help raise money for Japanese earthquake victims. Friedman, who is now based in Tokyo, told LineaRock.com that he was practicing in his studio when the 8.9-magnitude earthquake hit the country in early March. "I was in the studio with my band in Tokyo," he recalled. "So the studio was going upside down and everything; it was crazy. It was very, very scary — frightening."
The guitars aren't the only thing Friedman has shed from his storied past. The guitarist has also left behind any desire to reform with Dave Mustaine and company, even to take part in the 20th anniversary celebration of the band's classic Rust in Peace album.
"Absolutely not. The past is the past. I mean, it was a wonderful album and I'm sure [the current lineup of Megadeth is] doing a great job playing it. So many fans want to hear [those songs performed live], that's for sure. Every time I do a guitar clinic, I'm signing that record like it's going out of style and they want me to play stuff from it. I'm so happy about the great impact that that record has and I'm sure they're making a lot of fans happy doing it, so I support them 1000 percent. But it's not something that I'm really interested in re-doing right now." more on this story

(RockAAA) Alice Cooper's new album, expected later this year and set for release with Classic Rock Magazine including a Halloween survival pack just in time for Cooper's favorite holiday, is likely to be a big hit. He claimed: "It's probably one of the best 5 albums I've ever done.
"Musically it is really something. [producer] Bob Ezrin does not allow you to put a filler on an album. It's got to be a song that stands up on it's own without the album."
And at 63, the rock veteran is staying true to his roots. When asked whether he would ever play an acoustic set he responded: "No. I promised my audience I'd never unplug, it's just not in my nature. We already have so many wimpy bands out there that are afraid to turn up and be bands. That's why this kind of show is so good because you've got all bands with attitude." more on this story

Mascot Records will deliver the sixth full-length album from Pestilence to North American fans on July 19, 2011.
Titled Doctrine, the 11-track long player was recorded and mixed at Woodshed Studio in southern Germany with vocalist/guitarist by Patrick Mameli, Yuma van Eekelen and Victor Bullok (Triptykon, Dark Fortress) and offers up a torrent of thought-provoking lyrics, dissonant chords, complex rhythm patterns and low-tuned riffs.
While not a "concept album" in the traditional sense, the record is largely based around the various ways humanity often suffers under the burden of religion and politics. "I always put a lot of effort in the lyrics," comments vocalist/guitarist Patrick Mameli. "I never felt the need to write 'gore' lyrics, like so many other bands do. (Gibson) Coming up on his 69th birthday and busily preparing for his wedding to girlfriend Nancy Shevell, Paul McCartney has also been looking back at the Beatles breakup.
McCartney realizes he was "not a popular bunny" with his Beatle cohorts at the time of the split. The terse "press statement" questionnaire he delivered containing news of his debut solo album, McCartney, was probably a mistake in retrospect. "It's possible to read all sorts of other things into it, read all sorts of motives of mine into it, which is I think what happened," McCartney said. "For me, it was simply a way to answer some questions I might have been asked if I had done interviews."
Looking back, he just wanted to get his new music released: "I've been accused of not thinking things through enough. I get enthusiastic about something and say I'd like to do it, so let's do it. And that's mainly a good thing, because you get things done. It can occasionally create difficulties because you don't think of the implications. And to me, I hadn't thought of the implications. I was just putting out an album of some stuff that I liked.

Others include Midge Ure, Snowy White and John Sykes. These incredible partnerships made Thin Lizzy into one of the most powerful guitar bands in the music industry.
Renowned guitarist and tutor, as well as co founder of Lick Library, Stuart Bull takes you through note for note five classic Thin Lizzy guitar solos. One of the most famous graffiti slogans in history proclaimed "Clapton is God," but after Slow-Hand left the Bluesbreakers those words were soon replaced with "Peter Green is better than God." On this day in 1967, Guitarist Peter Green quit the John Mayall Band. Green went on to form Fleetwood Mac. Gibson takes a look back: In London in the mid-'60s, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers were THE blues act to see. When guitar god Eric Clapton left, Mayall turned to another young guitar player who had previously filled in for E.C. when he was on vacation, Peter Green.
After a while Green pushed for drummer Mick Fleetwood to replace Aynsley Dunbar. John Mayall agreed and The Bluesbreakers became Green, Fleetwood, John McVie and Mayall.
Mayall was a mentor by nature and gave Green studio-time for his birthday gift. Green, delighted, recorded four songs with Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. Tracks included a Green vocal on " First Train Home" and a prophetic instrumental, " Fleetwood Mac," so named after the band's rhythm section.
Things were hunky dory for a while, but when Mayall fired Fleetwood for being drunk it was the beginning of the end for Green and the Bluesbreakers. On June 15, 1967 Green quit to start a new band. Green and his agent called on slide guitarist Jeremy Spencer, Fleetwood, and he worked on getting McVie. But McVie opted to stay with Mayall, so Green used Bob Bruning instead. The new band made their live debut at the Windsor National Jazz and Blues Festival in August 1967 as Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac featuring Jeremy Spencer. more on this story

(Rock Ridge) Ingram Hill is set to release an acoustic album, "Blue Room Afternoon," on June 21, 2011, via Rock Ridge Music. The album will only be available in digital format and will be an iTunes exclusive. Produced by lead vocalist/guitarist Justin Moore, the album is of the "living room sessions" sort – an intimate re-recording of past hits and fan favorites (see full track listing below).
"We had always discussed releasing an acoustic album," says Moore, "but for whatever reason had never done it. Our manager, Jason Spiewak, brought up the idea, and we felt now was a perfect time to do it. It was kind of strange recording older songs all over again, but it was fun to be able to approach them differently, and try a few new things with them, which totally gave a fresh feel to songs we've played thousands of times. It's almost a look into what songs sound like when we first wrote them, without all the bells and whistles of a full production record. (Okay, so maybe we added a few bells, and a whistle or two.) We're excited about the album, and we can't wait for our fans to hear our songs in a fashion that is not normally available to them."
"Blue Room Afternoon" follows on the heels of 2010's "Look Your Best," which was produced by Rick Beato (Billionaire, Michelle Malone, Flickerstick, Shinedown); the band had worked with Beato on their first full-length, 2004's "June's Picture Show." The band was previously signed to Hollywood Records and released two albums on the label: the aforementioned "June's Picture Show," which boasted two Billboard charting Hot AC radio hits ("Will I Ever Make It Home" and "Almost Perfect," both of which appear on "Blue Room Afternoon" in a new acoustic format); and 2007's "Cold In California." Ingram Hill toured extensively in support of "Look Your Best," hitting the road with Sister Hazel, Benjy Davis Project, and others, and appearing on Rock Boat XI in January 2011. Previously the band shared stages with Hootie and the Blowfish, Maroon 5, Guster, Better Than Ezra, and Hanson. (Gibson) Beady Eye main man and ex-Oasis star Liam Gallagher spoke this weekend at the Isle Of Wight Festival about his new band and Oasis-style arguments.
According to NME.com, Gallagher told Absolute Radio: "We're not the Waltons, you know what I mean? We have our days and we have good days, you know what I mean, like we did in Oasis, but, you know, this is what we're here to do, is make music, and that's what we shall do."
Beady Eye opened for Kasabian at the festival's Sunday night (June 12) and Gallagher was excited by the line-up, telling Absolute Radio: "It's pretty good, lots of guitar bands, that's what we like to see, you know, the same kind of stuff that we're at, our kind of crowd. So tonight it's good, you know what I mean, lots of guitar bands… So I think we'll fit right in, you know, and obviously Kasabian are going to be great." more on this story

Today Andy Six from Black Veil Brides tells us the biblical story that inspired the song "Fallen Angels" from their brand new album "Set the World on Fire," which hit stores this week. Here is the story:
When the angels fell to earth they fornicated with humans and created the Nephilim. Nephilim is sort of this in-between character and creature where they're not divine and they're not evil, so they really have no where to go and they ban together - the seven of them. But I suppose for our purposes I guess it would be five. So they band together and create a society of marauders in this post-apocalyptic world.
For us it represented the ultimate outcasts and the idea of being the sort of person who is into rock music or on the outskirts or fringes of society. It's about understanding that we are all innately different, but that we can also band together in some way. So I guess in terms of what the song is about, it's mainly an anthem for the outcasts.
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
