Iggy 41
MuchMusic recently spoke with Derick Whibley about their collaboration with Iggy Pop (see story). Derick said, "He was done the record and he just decided last minute that he wanted to do a song with us." The band spent two days in the studio with Pop. "He was just so nice and so humble," said Whibley. "He said we're one of the only bands out there that has balls and writes music for the right reasons, so it was a great compliment."

Iggy’s new album “Skull Ring” will hit stores on September 30th. The disc also features Iggy’s former Stooges band mates Ron and Scott Asheton. Apart from the Sum 41 contribution, the album will also contain a guest appearance by Green Day. - Click Here for the Full Story

More MP3 Battles
Billboard reports: Boston College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, citing privacy concerns, have moved to quash subpoenas issued by the recording industry to discover the identities of students accused of illegally copying music.

Jonathan Lamy, a spokesperson for the Recording Industry Association of America, vowed legal action to obtain the information. The association, which has issued hundreds of subpoenas, has asked MIT for information about one student and BC for information about three students.

..The schools said they're required under the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act to notify students before they release personal information, such as names and addresses…

…The RIAA has filed at least 871 subpoenas in U.S. District Court in Washington this month, demanding information from universities and Internet service providers about users trading music files online… - Click Here for the Full Story

Sticks & Stones
Launch Reports: The Rolling Stones' Toronto-based promoter is subtly threatening to pull the group out of its July 30 concert in the Canadian city because of complaints about the show.

Michael Cohl, who's been producing the Stones' world tours since 1989, issued the warning to the Toronto Sun, saying that media complaints about transportation and restrictions on what fans can bring onto the concert grounds have angered him--and could well cause the Stones to reconsider their appearance.

…The concert is being held to bolster Toronto's image after the spring's outbreak of SARS.

…About a half-million people are expected to attend the concert, which will also feature AC/DC, Rush, the Guess Who, and Justin Timberlake,  among others - .Click Here for the Full Story

Press Release: Epic Records is proud to announce the release of the Ben Folds EP Series. The second EP, sunny 16, is slated for a September release, followed by an as-yet untitled third EP late November.

These releases allow Ben Folds and Epic Records to distribute music to the fans as quickly as possible after it is recorded. I’m going to do things that are really more about the music for me, says Folds about recording at his studio and getting his music to his fans within 3
weeks. The EPs include new original studio material as well as fun covers of various songs. Packaged in a cardboard sleeve, the EPs are available on Folds’ website, www.attackedbyplastic.com, and at tour dates. - Click Here for the Full Story

Shania Rocks?
Planet Enigma Records announced that they will release a rare collection of rock recordings from country diva Shania Twain on August 19.  The album, “Among My Souvenirs” is a collection of songs recorded and co-written and performed with Paul Sabu during the infamous Deerhurst Sessions between the years 1988 -1991.

The labels wants fans to be assured that this is an official release of the material that has been “painstakingly remixed this year by Paul Sabu”. Not like those crappy bootlegs you get off Ebay. -Click Here for the Full Story And mp3's
